How well did Phantasy Star Universe do?
Not that great.
How well did Phantasy Star Universe do?
So why did they even bother supporting 3DS ?
Capcom made the decission to support the 3DS when there was no userbase at all, many will have done the same at this point in time.
*IF* major support does dwindle then you'll see a knee jerk price drop EXACTLY the same as with the 3DS.
We JUST LIVED THROUGH THIS WITH THE 3DS.
again - this keeps getting wheeled out and there is ZERO evidence for it. ZERO.
Unless there is some sort of mass poll akin to "did you own a PSP and now bought a 3DS but aren't going to buy a Vita because the games you want are now all on the 3DS?" that i missed?
I didn't say that they weren't in a worse position.
PSP sales are shit tastic ? It was the strongest selling platform full stop last year wasn't it?
Whilst it's trending down now, the games are still selling well so it's not like PSP support is going to be a problem.
I honestly think more of the problem for sony is getting people to convert up rather than the 3DS. I don't think there's many people jumping over personally, but again - i can't prove that either way either.
Said previously though - it WILL happen come MH4 though. So sony have a clock to beat for sure. It's DEFINITELY going to happen then, without question.
with 5.x million users vs 540k - yes. that one.

DCharlie you perfectly know that while 3DS launch wasn't good, the console wasn't selling anywhere near the horrid vita numbers we see now...
The facts are that Vita will be selling <10k soon, worse than the PS3 was selling, that we can confidently say that neither Sony nor a third party have a big game planned in the next five-six months because if it did exist it would be announced by now and that the announced line up for these next six months is awful. And if the lineup is awful the system will continue tanking.
But okay we can live in the lala world and think that maybe there are big games coming this year and for some reason Sony and third parties decided not to announce them last E3, last TGS or today. But they decided to show a Inafune promise, a SRW promise and a 2013 game.
I was expecting a whole different Vita vibe after this event, the vibe is kinda different but not the direction I was looking for
I really want a strong handheld market so these smartphones and iOS things are not forced down my throat in a few years as the only way to get my games
now I feel the market is wide open
This doom and gloom thread is making me sad because I know it's true.
If third party support is lacking, you better hope that SCEJ has some system sellers up their sleeves.
I think I'm more surprised by a complete lack of any other Re-Masters. No Type-0 HD announcement. Is this game really not going to come to the west? Sega's back catalogue of Valkyria 3, Yakuza Black Panther 1 & 2 seemed ripe for that treatment considering they never had a pop at the west on PSP. The ReMasters program must have been one of SCEJ's biggest flops in recent memory. Did the kinda shoddy MHP3rd kill it with all that Korean hufflepuffle?
Worse still, not even a Hatsune Miku announcement! How low can you go, Sony Japan.
Combined the sales matched more or less the first week for 999, so it could just show teh fanbase for the first game are split between vita and 3ds
You mean the game that sold 15K on 3DS and 13K on Vita? That game?
Not backed with any evidence?
Look at sales for Monster Hunter. Look at sales for Resident Evil. These are the kinds of games that would have sold on the PSP, experiencing similar sales on the 3DS.
I mean, the argument that the 3DS has failed to capture the DS audience can be made much better than the argument that it failed to capture the PSP market, given the 'failure' of games like Nintendogs+Cats, but even that argument goes flying out the window when one considers sales of games like, say, the latest Professor Layton.
Good People Die was hardly a good example, even the original 999 bombed in Japan.

What will they talk about for E3 and TGS if this mini-event talks about 2013 title(s) ? 2014 titles ?
like what?

Sales for MH are only a fraction of the sales for the MH games on the PSP. If you're basing your notion on this one game, look elsewhere.
It serves its purpose in this case. Simply saying that developers will make games for the 3DS because the userbase is higher is just lol worthy. There's more to it than that, and Good People Die shows that... kinda. It will be better shown when more third party games show up on both.

They should have something pre-planned for the major events already, provided the partners can deliver on time.
Doubt it.
The game that sold 9K on the 3DS and 6K on the Vita.

PS4 probably, and more 2013 titles.
Neither announced for 3DS, as far as I know. In any case, why then would you expect these titles on vita before *that* console proves itself viable in the west, or anywhere else? We're going in circles. I think you're assuming quite a lot. Both coming this year? At least I am positive there will be a Call of Duty 3DS. I can't be sure about Assassin's Creed though.
But remember, the system only proved itself viable in the west a couple of months ago. Expect western third parties to respond accordingly soon.
There was a K-On PSP to PS3 conversion announced this week. That makes 3!!
Yeah, sales for MH are a fourth of what they were on the PSP, with less than a fourth of the userbase. You're really helping your argument here.
We already know. FFX, PSO2, ZOE1&2, SFXT, the next Kojima game and some logos.
This is where things get really depressing:
what system sellers does SCEJ, or heck, even SCEA and SCEE, have?
The Playstation Empire was built on exclusives and system sellers- but they were all third party games. A remarkably short sighted strategy, for Sony to not invest in building ANY brand of its own that had at least some system selling power. The only series they have is Gran Turismo, but it is underwhelming at best in the handheld market.
In all these years, why did Sony never make a Pokemon clone? Their own Tamotgachi or whatever it is? Why did they never make their own Smash Bros?
And if they are so incapable of making first party system sellers, then why in the world could they not at least pay to keep their system selling franchises exclusives, or at least timed exclusives?
I don't know. You're right. I'm just being incredibly optimistic, I guess, because unless there's SOME kind of support for the Vita- western, Japanese, it really doesn't matter- the system will die a slow, painful death in the coming twelve months.Neither announced for 3DS, as far as I know. In any case, why then would you expect these titles on vita before *that* console proves itself viable in the west, or anywhere else? We're going in circles. I think you're assuming quite a lot.
Wow, this was much worse than I thought it would be. WTF was Sony thinking by hyping this up to be more than it really is?
and people place hope on SCEJ lol
so at least *we* agree - they've not taken much of the PSP user base then?
Most of their first party output in the PS1/2 ages were driven to ground by Sony themselves. Legend of Dragoon, Jak & Daxter, Sly the Racoon. I never got why they didn't cultivate these IPs into evergreen titles/long selling sequels.

And you only need a valid Japanese mobile phone number and address.

And using Good People Die as an argument in the first place is, to quote you, 'lol worthy,' because for heaven's sake, the first game neveer sold in Japan, why would this have? It was a niche title at best, one that would have mustered about ~15k lifetime sales. Which it did, across both platforms.
Your not helping your point, at all. Your basically saying from now on the PS Vita will simply be getting low tier games, which helps it how? Unless lightning strikes twice, PS Vita is currently pretty fucked in Japan. To get it out of it's rut it requires a competance and understanding of the market I'm not even sure SCEJ has.
so at least *we* agree - they've not taken much of the PSP user base then?
