Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I just rediscovered the "3DS' touch screen is pressure sensitive" thread.

I guess the Wii U pad will be pressure sensitive too. Well, now im looking even more forward to a Mario Paint U.

If someone would manage to make it work with the PC... Just to test it as cintiq substitute...

1. Mario Paint, with a cloud based gallery, similar to Deviantart.
2. Yeah that's it.
3. Yup, all i need.
4. Unrelated: I recently learned the 3DS actually had pressure sensoring.
5. So WiiU will probably have that, too.

Done

I think they actually showed pressure sensitivity in the Wii U trailer when that chick drew TP Link.

Alright! Now, give me my Cloud gallery and I will buy your damn console, Nintendo! Again!

I can't wait to take my U on trips and holidays. Just have the console sitting on my lap, and profit!!

Just hope Hori comes out with a decent battery pak.

I think this is a prime example of how horrible a job Nintendo did at explaining the system during their E3 conference.

As long as games are playable solely on the screen, Wii U becomes semi-portable and would only need a power outlet for you to use on the go.

...

Please tell me this isn't serious.

You won't be able to leave the house with the Wii U Pad. It's NOT a handheld! The console will have a certain reach. Maybe a few feet, but nothing more.

It wouldn't be relevant for the 2D system emulators, which are primarily powered by the CPU. They'll either repackage the roms with new binaries that run on the U's CPU or they'll run them in a Wii compatibility mode.

"hybrid" hardware/software emulation probably refers to the abstraction layer that allows U's CPU to provide the behavior required by Wii software without actually being a 729MHz POWER5 pipeline, paired with silicon that replicates the fixed-function guts of Wii's GPU.

My extremely bullshit opinion is that such a solution would behave more akin to Sony's full EE+GS BC PS3's than their "hybrid" GS only solution. Emulating POWER5 on POWER7 should be cake compared to trying to implement EE on Cell.

Cool. The emulation talk jogged my memory and while I'm paraphrasing by saying "hybrid" hardware/software, that's essentially what I was told.

As far as Wii U goes, we've already heard (from bg) that Nintendo has more 3rd parties hardware/tech providers on board for the console than they've ever had.

CORRECT THREAD THIS TIME

I'd really like someone to graphically represent what 2x 360 is.

I'm thinking BF3 PS360 version vs BF3 PC low-medium. Though that will obviously depend on what the final GPU is capable of.

I'm not reaching far, I'm connecting dots:

  • The Wii U GPU was in the works at AMD Hyderabad from June 2009 to June 2011
  • SoCtronics worked with AMD Hyderabad from 2009 to June 2011
  • SoCtronics worked with AMD on the GPU I described
  • The GPU in question is not available at retail and doesn't match any off-the-shelf AMD GPU

Do you think this old post may have in fact been about AMD switching to IBM to make their Trinity APUs?

I know that one of the IBM chip designers working on the Wii U CPU shifted to a 32nm VLSI project (GPU integration) a few months ago. Seems related, as IBM usually tries to keep the console teams seperated during development. I guess it's possible Nintendo dropped the plans to go with two discreet chips and a CPU at 45nm in favor of a 32nm SoC project, or that the 32nm VLSI isn't integrating CPU and GPU, but GPU and I/O controller instead. Either way, if Wii U related, we're probably looking at a 32nm GPU designed by AMD, IBM and Nintendo, and considering the timeline, I don't think there's any remotely final GPU to put in devkits yet.

I'm sure he means that the Wii U becomes something similar to that (except that you have the screen in your hands too):

You're absolutely right.

However, if the console comes along too...

No, you'd take the console with you :p
Think of it as a laptop that doesn't hold a charge.

For all the wsippel interesting investigations concerning the GPU since a few days:

From what i can say, there were changes made on the GPU well after June 2011. Now, are we talking about "small" tweaking like boost of frequency, or more intricate modifications that concerns the chip design, i don't know. Is it possible for Nintendo to add a feature (like an improved tesselator), add more SPU, etc, without having to change the GPU too heavily, the board circuitry, bus, all the other components even slightly (because i guess the result must be balanced) ? And if they weren't satisfied and/or under the pressure of developers to boost the hardware, is it possible for them to choose another version of the GPU rather than trying to modifying it too much, this "late" in development ? In regard to videogames history, they can, but i don't know if it's the case here.

Almost forgot about this one. If you're referring to the final GPU, I don't think they even had it taped out till the end of the year. If you're referring to what was already in the dev kit, ShockingAlberto once talked about a "bump" a few months after E3. It's also plausible that they left themselves some wiggle room to get more input from devs with how the "final" silicon should look.

Hey, you know how the Aonuma Swapnote included the Zelda secret tone? What if that ends up as the 3DS/Wii U one?
It sounded eerily new, so, I dunno. Also, what're the chances we'll see Zelda 3DS at E3? (hopefully next to an extended Wii U demo, with some playable stuff. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah)

what games we know are coming to 360/PS3 this fall but have had no WiiU announcements?

I was looking at the DoA5 thread knowing how tight Nintendo is when those guys?

And Epic Mickey having 700 people working on it? I think there is a Wii + WiiU version
The Wii version exists for the userbase and continuity for fans - the WiiU version for super polished graphics and controls - Disney wants Mickey to be huge

Warren Spector was in the E3 dev reel, so I guess maybe that's a little hint? Also, the thought of a voice acted Epic Mickey II with the best control scheme and graphics? hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng yes

If these end up true I need to dust off my keyboard gibberish.

RE6 should be there, I don't see why it wouldn't. As far as things like Max Payne I'm not sure since it is releasing so early in the year but then again Darksiders will be on it's way there.

Max Payne seems iffy at best considering the relationship of this dev with Nintendo but who know if I want GTA V them Max Payne would be a nice hint of changing tides

RE6 is most likely lead platform by now where Capcom is concerned

Haha, really?
You really think MS is going to purchase Sega?
That's pure crazy talk.

SEGA is a strange company - they have the London Olympics partnership with Nintendo ending and they have been very quiet on support lately

can you name the huge 3DS game by Sega?

this is a speculation thread so I say they go Xbox720 exclusive :p

When Sega's games sell hundreds of times better on Nintendo's consoles, it seems highly unlikely that they would go MS exclusive.
