Oooh I thought it was already out, my bad.

Is that generally safe to buy people's used cards? I don't really know too much about this kind of stuff. I just know that most enthusiasts like the kind on GAF OC their cards to hell and back. Would that decrease the life of the card?

Honestly, I'd just check Slickdeals every day. There have been recent deals on the GTX 480 and 570 that have been cheaper than buying used on ebay. Ebay is kind of a scam for used parts (although a great place to offload yours).

Epic Games Shows Samaritan Demo Using Next-Gen ‘Kepler’ GPU
Game Developers Conference 2012 attendees were first in the world to bear witness to the power of our next-generation ‘Kepler’ graphics card at an invite-only Unreal Engine 3 Samaritan demonstration. When previously shown, the same demo required the use of three GeForce GTX 580 graphics cards.

The price wasnt the only thing that got tweaked.

If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone. We can sit this one out, atleast right now.

But what about us poor fools still rocking the Radeon 4000's? :( This was supposed to be the perfect storm for a build when GPUs would be at the best competition and Ivy Bridge would take things up another notch. So far it seems like both aren't what I had hoped for.

What if I tell you that there is a very good chance of getting a 570 level card from Nvidia at the $200 price point? Will you be happy then?

im using a few websites to earn free amazon gift cards, i got around $300 saved so far.. might take another month to hit $500ish should i get this card or wait until the GK110 comes out? i have a GTX 460SSC

Man, and here i was hoping id be able to retire my GTX570 early.
I guess ill stick with it for a little while until the 670 comes out and drops in price slightly.
Hopefully Gainward/Zotac make a decent off reference card ASAP.

From what I've found out today in Korea (can't say the source),
Performance-wise, the average difference between GTX680 and 7970 is very similar (if not the same) as the difference between GTX580 and 6970.

Well, since GTX580 was considered to be roughly 15% faster than 6970, it looks like nVIDIA in this generation (GTX680) can be considered 15% faster than AMD's counterpart (7970).

And TDP of GTX680 seems to be between 6970 and 6950.

To me, nVIDIA looks like a clear winner this time round. Almost the same performance lead (~15%) as previous generation (GTX580 vs 6970) *and* better TDP.
We'll find out soon enough. (22nd).

Seems to line up with benches then.
Hopefully we will see a really nice and well priced 660Ti and 670 that overclock like mad and aren't gimped to oblivion.

40% is what people were saying which is neat to see.
Good to see multi monitor support seems to be true too.

Also that slide looks like it's from MSI. *Well the MSI in the text would probably be a good indicator.

Hmm looking good, looking good.
Im really planning on going multi-monitor with the GTX570 replacement, i hope it can support 3 screens.

I pray 2GB is enough........2012 the year every good PC game doesnt NEED more than 2GB to run multi-monitor.

P.S I havent read through the whole thread(call me lazy)
But is the GTX680 really just a rebranded GTX670 ti rebranded because the HD7000 series was less than expected?
Rumors you hear from friends while drinking with no smartphones or laptops in sight(Dont drink with your smart phone or laptop in sight)

Hard to say if it's rebranded but 2 GB of ram and only 256 bit memory bus suggest it was supposed to be middle end card. But since it has performance above ATI high end and 7970 are selling like hot cakes it's no suprising nvidia wants to use this opportunity to make more money.

Also the rumors suggest they will be 2048 cuda cores part in Q4 2012

Can these things just come out now and shake up the graphics card market more please? Everything is too damn expensive atm.

Hmm ?
6870 for <150$ will push almost every game in full hd without problems - there has never been time where GPUs were so cheap compared to game requirments.

I had a 6950 before it got stolen - not going any less than that, but these cards are just silly money.

Damn, I told myself I'd wait for the dust to settle, and wait for the inevitable 4gb model, but I know when I look at an EVGA 680 Super-Clocked/Classified, I'll pull the trigger... Well, just pending on price of course.

Yeah, but that's an old card at this point.

I feel there should be a sensible choice at $250 or $300 that would be a notable step up from that particular card.

So the GTX680 is great at Unigine Heaven! Sounds like a fun game.. seriously, we need game benches. The wait is almost over.

I...I don't think these things are going to push the overall prices down. Heck if anything this will probably be the most expensive gen. I mean if the the "570" of this gen is going for almost 600 dollars then I truly dread what the will flagship go for ._.

It would be nice if it is 15-20% faster and AMD lowers their prices to $399-$499 on the 79xx series. I think I would buy a $399 7950 and overclock the hell out of it.

So is the speculation finally confirmed? This is actually the "570" of the 6xx and not the "580"? And it's going to see that price jump? Wow, it's going to be a real hard sell for many on this card, let alone the "580" version, which would have to see pretty large increases in performance to justify $600+ pricing.

Argh, this is what sucks about a duopoly, if the 680 was actually their middle tier card, they should have just released it at a really good price and totally mess AMD, oh well, I know businesses dont work like that, hopefully some day we will have a third player enter the market and just shake things up.

That dream died when Intel abandoned Larrabee. Considering the decline of the desktop and the shrinking discrete market, we might be lucky if AMD is still selling discrete cards in 5 years. It may be such a niche market and APU good enough for 95 percent of the population, that Nvidia is the only one even catering to it anymore.

But i thought the PC market was expanding with Steam? Then again, most games are just awful ports that dont take advantage of the huge GPUs, these high end cards are mostly just for the niche like you say that like to play with ungodly amounts of AA.

I think the hardships with the 28nm process just hurt both manufacturers too much.. they had to recoup.
Its still much better than how 40nm ramped up. Possibly what is holding Nvidia back from an aggressive pricing strategy is the shift to wafer based pricing.

Sorry if old, didn't see it poster. Fudzilla is claiming that as of today the price isn't set yet, but it's looking like 499 for the 680.

Fudzilla said:
You might have remember that we said the GTX 680 price wasn't carved in stone and could be easily changed. Today it looks like Nvidia did just that. The new price that partners recieved this morning is $499.

So faster than the 7970 and cheaper?

seems like their high end model aka gk110 isn't ready to be released yet, it's pretty pointless to argue that way imo. It is their strongest card that's actually on the market, and not on paper, therefore it's their highend card right now. Even if it comes out in July or August, it's still 3 or more months away. I don't think amd would lower their prices because their first hd8k card will be on the market in 4 to 7 months ;) (which will clearly surpass their 7k cards as the gk110 will surpass their gk104 cards.)

Probably is due to the fact you don't need to upgrade that often with the way the console ports have depressed the arms race.

But if you look at the benchmarks of the AMD APUs, then project out another 5 years, it'll be interesting. I really don't think the new consoles are going to be raising the bar that much.

Even though it's still expensive a drop to $499 would at least force some competition and remove a lot of this bitter taste in my mouth from what I've seen so far. I went AMD last time around so I wouldn't mind giving nVidia another try as long as they price their stuff decently enough.

Looks great.

I'm hoping for 6xx card with 580-level performance for around $200-250 by the end of the year.
