Silent Hill HD Collection |OT| Programmed in Smoke Signals

I can understand if people don't like Silent Hill 2's voice acting as a whole, but what's wrong with Silent Hill 3's voice acting? I thought everyone sounded great...

Going by the short clips I've heard, Douglas seems OK, but Heather sounds way off.

I honestly think Douglas is the one that sounds off, his original VO sounded like a grizzled old man, the new OV sounds like a young guy doing a bad grizzled old man impression.

I'm pretty sure the new Douglas is Crispin Freeman.

The original VO for Douglas definitely sounds much better, but I didn't find his new voice to be terrible. New Heather sounds like a mid to late 20s woman rather than a 17 year old girl though.

Have you played through the HD collection?

New James and Maria don't fit their characters at all. Angela sounds her age but her character model still looks like middle aged a duck women so it doesn't really fix her.

The new Douglas is laughable.

New Heather manages to botch the Heather/Father dynamic in record time.

I've seen all I need to.

I think Douglas is voiced by Kirk Thornton, based on the fact that he sounds exactly like King Moron from Persona 4.

New Heather Sounds like Yukiko as well. (Amanda Winn Lee)

There's a Let's Play that started on Youtube for the HD Collection. Man, they really 'cleaned' some of the textures like the parking at the beginning. The roads in the town are all ''new''. It really clashes with the whole aesthetic of the town. Blargh.

They praise the gameplay for being the same things they said about Downpour.
What a joke.

Still, great that for a SH fan, the collections is great, buying it!

Looks like SH 2 is pretty faithful. Lots of fog. Voicework actually doesnt seem horrible.
Yep. I like the new voicework. Silent Hill 2 is probably my favorite game of all time and while I still have an attachment to the original voice actors, I went in completely open minded and it seems pretty solid and an improvement in many ways. Especially the delivery of the lines.

I just hope Silent Hill 3 isn't the disaster it appears to be as far as the visuals are concerned.:(

Just a warning that SH HD LP pt 3 has downpour ending spoilers in it. He give s a big leadup though so you can shut it off. I didnt spoil myself. I hate LPs like this.

Yes, you can choose which voices you want to use on Silent Hill 2.

You can not on Silent Hill 3, as far as I know.

Cool, i'll go with classic on 2 (unless some new feature is enabled with the new voices) and just deal with the new (which might not be that bad).

I am going to do the new voices first, then for my second play through I will go with the old voices.

Never played 2 or 3, so the controversy on the voices and the graphics is lost on me, but I can't wait to play this tomorrow. I loved 1 and Origins.

They're definitely "cleaner" and sometimes hit 60fps, especially SH3. The new voice acting in both games didn't bother me at all. SH3 does have fog, it's just dialed back a lot.

Looking forward to the game and I ordered it from Amazon.ca, but sadly I only went for Free Super Saver Shipping so I'll probably receive it at the very end of this week or early next week sadly.

But I'm not in a rush so I'm fine.

I was re-watching that video on youtube of Silent Hill 3 and I really like the extremely clean look when Heather is sitting inside Happy Burger. Almost surreal.

Watched a bunch of videos and yeah, although the acting is ok, the new SH2 voices don't fit the characters, imo.
Jesus, they are so dramatic, it's almost like they're trying too hard.

In that case, these will blow you away. Night, lights out, standard procedure.

Eh, some of the experience might be lost from the cleaner look and increased visibility. Is there no option for the grain filter?

Man those clean streets and sidewalks are garish. The fog effect isn't very smooth either.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Man .. where's da atmosphere ? the rolling fog looks non existent... also SH2's FMVs look HORRIBLE stretched.

I started watching that, then clicked over on a walkthrough video on the side for comparison. Visually, I dunno, I like the look of the original. The voice acting seems to be an improvement though. I really don't like Heather in the original version (based on that clip) and the new VO isn't perfect, but it sounds a little better.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Got the game, will let you guys know how it is 3 hours from now.

So it's insanely foggy in Queens/Long Island today, what fitting weather for the release of the Silent Hill HD Collection..... coincidence?! I think not!

Just got the game. The platinum for SH2 is already looming over me and is much more oppressive than anything in the actual game. Someone hold me.

Sorry, lost my internet for 6 hours. Anyway...

SH2:
- The fog is still thick.
- Sidewalks and roads are cleaned up.
- The film grain is there.
- The CG cutscenes are probably stretched, but they're not REC:VX HD "quality".
- I'm playing it on easy mode but for some reason, Henry's melee hits are pretty slow. This makes fighting the Lying Creature much harder.
- I also noticed that the Lying Creature (the one that sprays you some stuff) crawl a lot more than wriggling on the ground.

SH3:
- Grain is either very minimal or gone, but the intro had grain...
- Remember the scene where the chain/metal floors in the carnival area are supposed to be cleaned up (Pic Link), that's definitely not true. The metal floor detail is still there.
- Apparently, they changed some soundtracks/soundbits. The intro is missing the (see 0:00-0:03). It's also missing in Heather and Claudia's first cutscene (it plays when Heather cringes in pain).
- Shadows look a bit rough on cutscenes.
- No dogs will ambush you on your first "otherworld" transformation (aka the elevator area in the mall).

Both:
- They had slowdowns on some parts, even to the point the the game will stop for a split second.
- Some sounds are out of sync. The new voices don't sync with the mouths as well.
- This game showed that the characters aged really well (to the point they look like a current gen model), but the models unfortunately don't hold up as much.
- The new voices of SH2 are totally fine. I like it more than the original voices.

If you only want one game, I heavily recommend getting SH2.

What the shit is up with Amazon and UPS lately?

They sent me a email saying the game was shipped yesterday but the tracking data says that it was picked up at 6AM this morning (March 20th).

So it won't be here until tomorrow.
