Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

blue flame-head Hades

I only clicked blindly on you spoiler bars. The first thing I thought of was obviously this:

Now that I spoilered myself a little, I SO want to see this.

To the person who asked what to do when Tempura Wizard shrimp-ifies you: DODGE. He will beat you in a flat-out foot race, but keep alternating run, DODGE, run, DODGE, and you will survive long enough to transform back... Hopefully!

In other news, my head is exploding trying to decide my favorite chapter and boss -- it's ALL awesome! What I love is the game has a definite three-act structure: Act I is the first
nine
chapters and deals with
Medusa's ressurection
; Act II is the next
eight
chapters and deals with
the conflict between gods and them banding together to stop the alien threat
; and Act III is the final
eight
chapters, dealing with
the aftermath three years later of the Chaos Kin's escape, and finally stopping Hades, the god instigating every conflict
. The campaign is like three full games in one, a trilogy of stories onto itself.

It's like Sakurai went ALL-OUT making this as though it were the last Kid Icarus title ever. Hopefully it's not, but damn, compared to classics like Star Fox 64 that survived through the ages on a mere fraction of the content, this game could single-handedly preserve the franchise for generations if need be.

Again, though, I hope we get a sequel. A WiiU title with a Raid-style co-op mode would be delish. Now that the core gameplay is in place, someone else could make the game, with Sakurai supervising as creative consultant and quality control. The game needs to sell well first, though. I wonder how it's doing?

Nintendo should just let Sakurai handle nothing but Smash Bros and IP revivals.

Multiplayer is epic.

I love watching four people duke it out until they have almost no health and then firing a mega lazer, scoring four defeats in the process.

Also, Claws >>>> Everything.

I don't quite understand right-handed people's complaints about the controls. They're incredibly simple to get the hang of.

My Meteor Bow kicks such ass. Great at a distance and it does amazing damage for a bow up close.

I've just resigned myself to the fact that they're going to sell booster packs on Club Nintendo.

I mean, they have to, right?

Man, this game just keeps on going.

"Okay, I'm pretty much at the end, I'll just keep going and do this last mission or two."

Five missions later:

"Alright, seriously, this is the last one, right?"

Nope!

It feels like they plotted out a big epic trilogy, then looked at it again and said, "Aw, what the hell, we can totally fit this all into one game!"

im a little over half way and i gotta say, this game is awesome. i got no problem with the controls, got used to it about half way through the 2nd level

the dialog and voice acting is great. the game doesnt take itself to seriously and i feel like that was the right decision.

also the mp is the shit, if smash bros was a shooter/slashing game it would play like kid icarus

AR cards seem to be ignoring the 3rd Army... where are the
Nature Army
AR Cards?

it seems there is much missing from what I can find to scan out there

Yeah, the dedication they put into this game is masterful. Other devs need to pay attention and realize why Nintendo is still top dog. Everything about this game shows they cared and they put a lot of heart into this.

I wouldn't even say this game is representative of Nintendo in general. There are things in this game that even manage to be above and beyond their normal fare. Especially compared to how, say, Zelda's been lately.

Skyward Sword was a 40 hour console game, and Kid Icarus is a 10 hour handheld game. Yet I feel like I've been on a bigger adventure and gotten to know and like the world and characters better in Kid Icarus.

Less filler I'd say. Kid Icarus gets straight to the point and none of the levels feel recycled and they each have their own awesome setpieces.

Nah, this is above and beyond even them. This is Sora!!!! Sakurai proved to me that its not just a Smash Bros thing...

His games are something to treasure and look forward to. SSB3D XMAS 2013? How big is Sora, how much can they work on?

Where the fuck where you when Kirby Super Star came out?

Yeah, its a great game and filled with content, but its never been near the same level as Smash in my mind. There is something about the Kirby gameplay style that I don't love. This game is right up there with Smash, maybe even better????

Its SandP, but every level is better and more epic and has better graphics. It is a sequel to one of my treasured childhood games. It has a super robust multi mode that encourages you to play single player like a loot game. It has surprises. It has everything. I'm totally blown away, far beyond what I ever felt playing Kirby Super Star.

Admittedly, I never played KSS on its original platform, when it originally came out, maybe if I had, I would have been just as blown away.

My current fave weapon. I need to cook up another chain of shit to transfer some of these effects over to a stronger pair though. *drool*

okay by using my 3DS coins I did a few idol toss using 3 eggs to get 100% at new and finally was able to get some of the missing Army they are there just no cards yet for them strange

you can move the cursor vertically by holding down R (or whatever button is mapped to center camera) and moving the analog stick slightly. Pit still walks around slowly, but you can aim in any direction It's easy to overshoot that walking/aiming zone with an analog slider.
Hmm. I thought that's what I was doing, but I'll have to try it again with even milder movements...

first person is neat but it severely reduces your fov. it could be useful in multiplayer if you play long range, and there's an option to zoom in if you hold that view change button down or double tap the screen while standing still.
I see it as a weird little bonus, so far...

Loving this game more and more. The controls have finally become comfortable (or at least I've gotten used to them) and when I die it's because of my own doing I feel. Not dodging correctly. Firing constantly when I should perhaps wait for a charged shot or melee. When in the air trying to get everything instead of dodging and letting things perhaps pass me by.

I am glad when you die there are actual check points. Hadn't realized that until I got to chapter 6. I bounced off a platform (got put back on the platform) in chapter 5 but didn't have the cauldron tip over. Only when I died in combat in chapter 6 did that happen. At least there seems to be on the ground sections. Not sure about the air sections. I was afraid I'd have to restart the entire stage. Glad that isn't the case. I think 5 is where I can get through a stage at the moment. However I barely have life when I do that. I think I got through the ground section chapter 4 (at intensity 4.1 or 4.2) with about less then 1/4 of my health bar. I couldn't keep it higher then.

Okay, so it's inconceivable for me to go through this monstrous thread and read what everyone has said, so I'm going to ask some questions that have probably already been asked, so I apologize in advance. Most of these are good for discussion though :)

-What's everyone using for their control scheme? I'm using the default stylus control, but I tweaked the sensitivity a bit. I made the camera control "stop quickly" so that I didn't have to stop it after flicking the stylus. Seems to be working well for me so far. Anyone else do this? I also raised the reticle speed a lot, and I think that helped me a bit, too. What else have you guys done that has helped you get the "perfect" scheme?

-What's everyone's favorite weapons? I'm finding good luck with Palms, Orbitars, and Clubs. Those are my favorite right now, but I haven't even given some others a fair chance. Also I'm TERRIFIED to fuse weapons! I'm scared I'll never be able to get the base weapons back :(

Holy shit. Just played this for the last hour and a half and I feel like I've developed severe carpal tunnel, and eye strain. It's been all worth it though! Loving every minute.

Dude, you know that you can get a power that lets you "pokeball" weak enemies into idols, right?

Question about this though, how do you tell if they're low on health?

Or is it on enemies considered physically weaker?

Does it only happen on their death?

I'm just a bit confused as to the mechanics.

I'm pretty sure the Swords in the together menu are defeated opponents. I currently have about 152 points and my swords are "1 blue crossed swords 5 swords, 2, green swords."

Definitely have mixed feelings so far about this game.

On the one hand, I absolutely love the charm of the enemy designs, the parody like nature of the game, all the optional content to seek out, and surprisingly, the multiplayer.

On the other hand, the main campaign really isn't doing much for me. Sure, I love the world and the dialogue, but the actual gameplay seems really repetitive, and on the harder difficulty setting, the controls really start to show their flaws. I know I'm not half way through the game yet, but it's harder and harder to pick up and play for me.

Still enjoying it for the most part, but I think this would have possibly been one of my favorite games if it had truly supported the CPPro

How the fuck are you supposed to not get kicked by the chests with legs? It doesn't seem to matter when I dodge, I always get caught in their stupid fucking flurry of kicks and they take like half my goddamn health.
