Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

Does anyone know if that rumor that Kid Icarus is patch is true?

Has Nintendo said anything about DLC in regards to the game or does that start with Fire Emblem? Maybe capable but won't appear until Fire Emblem kicks it off in regard to retail games?

Team Sakurai should be too busy getting started on Smash for 3DS/WiiU but I hope we get DLC at some point

if we get a 3DS lite with two sticks they can patch the game controls to work with that maybe

In what position have you guys been playing?

I've been sitting at my computer desk with it and using the stand. Since I'm playing near my PC, I also plug it into the speakers and blast that audio. It's sooo good. It's a bit uncomfortable, but I was ready to cast this game off because of the control. I still think it begs to be a Wii game, but I'm having a hell of a time with this thing anyway.

@Tom_Cody: I can play the game in just about any position. It can wear on the side of my index finger a bit, but all in all I'm comfy. :) I usually sit in a chair and play it with default controls, with vertical and horizontal aiming speed set to fastest and stopping speed set to quickest. As you said (and as the game says), the trick for ground controls is realizing the camera works like spinning a globe. With the camera's stopping speed set to quickest, there's no inertia to each flick of the camera, so I never overshoot or undershoot where I want to aim the camera. It works well.

Man, multiplayer is crazy. I was tearing shit up last night in LvD, killing multiple opponents and often delivering the final blow to the opposing team's angel. But then in free-for-all, I was coming in last or second to last. I'm starting to suspect that high-speed weapons with more finesse (like claws) lend themselves better to LvD while big splashy power weapons like cannons are better-suited to free-for-all, since you can do crowd control and quickly rack up damage. That's just speaking for me and my style, though. What a game!

I also finally realized that the different colored eggs in Idol Toss increase the percentage of finding a new idol differently, with blue and red eggs having higher values than white eggs. Right now it takes me three white eggs to have a 100% chance of getting something new, while with a red egg or blue egg it only takes one white egg.

The Idol Gallery is so thorough that it even has idols of the
cellular versions of enemies seen in Hades' belly, like Cellular Sinistew
. Simply amazing.

Or as
Thanatos
would say (early game spoilers),
"Hhhaaamaaaazinggg!"

So anybody got a fusion guide handy? I'm overwhelmed here D:

Currently sticking to some beam weapons I found since I can't get a complete multiplayer match going...

Chapter
18
is where shit starts getting real.
Oh my god, my heart was thumping... there's something that all of you guys want (but you don't realize it yet) and Sakurai makes it seem like it won't happen, but then it does.

I love this game. Whats the opposite word for bomba?
Goda?

Well, "bomba" doesn't mean a game is bad, only that it didn't find its market. It remains to be seen how well this game will sell. :)

That chapter you mention (
Chapter 18
) is indeed amazing. It was an amazing bit of emotional storytelling, providing a sobering perspective on the way
the humans are being impacted by the feud of the gods.
It hits you hardest when you realize
the girl you're controlling has been playing out in the fields and probably doesn't have a home or family to return to now that the city has been destroyed by the gods and possessed Pit is running around killing everyone
.

Mastering the controls in Uprising has just made me realize how much I don't care for the dual analog controls in other games.

Once you "get" it, its controls are on the level of when OoT introduced Z-targeting to me, as well as it makes the idea of the 3DS needing a 2nd analog pad moot.

I can understand cramp complaints. But dual analog controls can't come close to the ultra fast pinpoint precision offered by the sylus/touchscreen combo.

Pittoo is supposed to be more of a word play of how Pit doesn't like him. Like he is Spit or Pittoey. More than Dark Pit is Pit 2 or Pit Also. Although I love that it works in a lot of contexts.

Reminds me of Fringe:
Walter - Walternate
Olivia - Fauxlivia
etc...

I have a problem with those metroid-like enemies while I'm in the air. They always seem to get me. Do I simply have to shoot them? Only using one of those 2 orb helps me.

With one weekend in the books, how does everyone feel about the controls?
[...]
In what position have you guys been playing?

I braced myself initially for having to fight the controls for the ground portions of the game, but in the end I've gone from learning the control scheme at intensity 2-3 to doing pretty well at intensity 7.

I don't mind the controls anymore -- they're "just another control scheme" to me now.

I've tried a few different playing positions, but I've found it's best to partially recline with my legs up so I can rest my hands on them when the action gets intense. Helps reduce hand fatigue as well.

See, that's the thing, there should be no need for hand cramps at all. I'm a righty so I don't know if that attributes to anything, but I personally think the default controls in the game are the biggest problem with this title. Once you go in and tweet it to your liking, the game is golden... at least in my honest opinion.

My setup right now is:
Control pad: Move Pit
Aim: Touch screen/ABXY
L: Attack
R: Use item
D-pad up: Align Camera
D-pad down: Change view
D-pad right/left: Select powers

Adjust the reticle/camera speed to max, make Pit stop on a dime and turn on aim assist (which is off by default if I'm not mistaken). I don't even use the stylus anymore, even though I don't have a problem with it, but I've just found that using the fingernail on my thumb not only does the same thing as the stylus, but now allows me to hold my 3DS comfortably, as well as use the items (I changed it to the R button) without taking my hands off of moving pit and aiming. I think if those were the default controls, a lot more people would be more open-minded to the controls.

Hades
uses it the way you say, but Palutena specifically says it's a clever way of saying "Pit, also."

On another note, multiplayer seems a reliable way of getting idol eggs. I usually have a full slate of eggs after playing several rounds of LvD. Chapter
21
(
The Chaos Vortex
) is a great place to stock up on idol eggs as well; the ground section
has 13 waves of enemies, all conveniently in one place
, which seems to result in many eggs. As a bonus, I love the bit in that chapter where
all the Twilight Zone-style eyes appear onscreen, weirding out Pit and Viridi
, lol!

Right now anything over 5 intensity wreaks my day once it comes to the ground controls. I'm only at chapter 6 but I'm struggling to grasp the ground controls.

Tried multiplayer, Japanese players destroyed me so hard... I had better luck against Western gamers, finishing top on my team every round, but we still got dominated by the other team. For comparison I was finishing with a score in the 700s with the rest of my team maxing at like 300 or even lower. The other team's top player finished with 1300 or something like that.

Sometimes it feels like I am doing no damage to enemy players yet they can 2 shot me. Are they using some power I don't have yet or something?

are they deflecting your attacks? they could also have more +defense, or are using super armor. you could also just be getting hit by the higher damage attacks, which will take you out fast without any defensive stats. i tend to fall for those easier than the weaker attacks.

They could be deflecting, I have no idea how to tell (or how to do it myself).

EDIT: I had someone on the enemy team yesteday fire a massive lazer across the map at the very beginning. Like a kamehameha or something.

This might be old, but I haven't seen it mentioned here since I started participating in this thread so I thought I'd bring it up.

You can zoom in by double tapping the touch screen. Sniping Staffs suddenly became much more useful.

It stays zoomed in until you either double-tap again or perform a dash. So you can 'tilt walk' around in that mode as well. Only tried it with Staffs, Blades and Claws but I assume it works with every weapon.

Just got past the first big twist. God I love
false endings less than half-way through the game
. Can't wait to have good enough weapons and skills to start taking on intensity 9.

Does anyone else think Pit and Palutena are funny as hell? I read one review (probably Sterling lol) that said the jokes fell flat. I find them either legitimately funny or corny enough to actually be funny.

What is everyone's favorite weapon? Why do you like it? For me- Claws. Are. BANANAS. The increased speed and melee dash attack is like, clear out an average mob in 10-15 seconds on intensity 7 bananas. Easily my favorite weapon. Blades have been cool and Orbitars are sexy looking but claws all the way for me.

And one more thing- anyone having trouble dodging: I had some trouble with it early until I realized you have to not only be NOT firing during an incoming attack, but you have to have your stylus touching the touch screen (puts up the green reticule). Otherwise you just dash instead of dodging and get wrecked by the 4th chapter boss B-). I'm surviving much better with a working dodge now.

It's a power. I do it a lot at the beginning of the match, because the Dark / Lights spawn parallel to each other.

Its hit or miss for me. Some of the lines are genuinely funny, some of them are funny in a "that's not funny and that makes it funny" way and, yeah, some of them do feel like they're trying to hard to be referential and meta. On the whole I enjoy most of the dialogue though.

I've only played through chapter 4 once so far, so maybe this is premature, but question about reaching a certain treasure chest:

A room in the Reaper Fortress has a chest that I can't reach because of a gap in the floor. I found the "special" treasure room 2 levels down by dropping down some holes in the lower levels, but I looked all over the place down there for a jump pad that would launch me back up to the upper chest, and no such luck. Did I just miss it?

Hey Gaf, I love loving this game!

My FC is 3523-2206-6152

Just had two twelve-hour days so I feel a little behind, but have played up to chapter 14 now, and a few multiplayer.

Game's amazing so far and from what I understand it just keeps delivering. Back at it!

If anything, I find comforts in that basically only the reviewers I don't trust gave it mediocre score. Game Informers, Jim Sterling... But 3/10 takes the cake.

I laugh at people saying the control are broken.
I played the entire game, and I really enjoyed the controls. And yes, I played without the stand.

Not so much. May I remind you I was the guy who predicted a 79 Metascore... and failed. It's a shame Jones's score won't be aggregated there.

Stand definitely makes it easier for me when I'm using the stylus, but since I gave that up in lieu of my thumbnail (soon-to-be replaced by a plastic attachment in the mail), if anything it's more convenient without it.

It's funny, I -love- the controls in this game. As in, like, the sheer act of moving running, dodging, aiming and spinning the camera all feel FUN. The game is constantly engaging on every level, from what's going on in the levels to the sense of movement and speed as I run around them. Simply awesome. Now I'm wondering what other games could benefit from this same control scheme.

There are a couple Special Powers you can equip pre-mission to get it - try to use either one of the Jump/Jump Glide powers and you can just launch yourself from the platform closest to the exit door/chest itself. If you go at it from the other side, the wall slides out and knocks you to the lower level again.

That's why I think you are obsessed. I mean, who gives 2 flying f's about scores nowadays?
