Halo |OT2| Hyper-Athletic Speed And Mass And Weight and Power

Oh is that why? I thought it was the maps and gametype settings lol

Despite the maps and gametype settings I still play Reach. :(

The main reason I dont play Arena is because in vanilla Reach I like that I can goof off and wont have any negative reprocussions from that, if I played the Arena I would have to play properly, screw that.

When Reach first came out though, and I was playing it with the guys I played older Halo with, we took it seriously, played the Arena, and gave up on it after very few games based on how stupid the rating system at the time was. I still think the way it applies grades and stuff is too unclear but at least they ditched the weird individual rating stuff, we all turned into lone wolves for those few games lol.

Goes to show how ridiculous the Arena system is. I know the technical reasons behind trueskill, but why they didn't just create a system where you can clearly see where you rank and have bars indicating how close you are to ranking up/ down is beyond me.

You can't show bars under Trueskill

I dodged arena for a lot of reasons, some of which are because its hard/ impossible to read and you don't know where your going to be placed until its too late. You can win the majority of your games, but if you play against crap people you could end up in silver. Its a ridiculously bad system.

Division depends on the Trueskill of everyone you beat. You could win 30 games but if they were all against low TS guys you're not going to place high.

Yeah I mean it sucks they are restricted to trueskill and cant use another system. Or create another system if none exist but thats not really the job of the developer so fair enough.

And thats so damn stupid lol. Especially in a system like the Arena, where you dont know what your opponents trueskill is like, and have no way of influencing the fact that you want to go against better players. I mean matchmaking should do that automatically, but when matchmaking fails the arena fails, if you constantly play crap players no matter what you do, you cant hit Onyx. To a lesser degree that was an issue in Halo 3 aswell. Was never a fan of how Trueskill worked.

I'm excited to see how AAs are implemented in Halo 4. Probably what I'm looking forward to the most in multiplayer.

No. That goes to dual wielding. If you think the last couple of days are fraught, you never lived through Halo2Sucks.com

I was thinking more like months. As long as I've been on GAF (because I can't speak to any longer), AAs have been undesirable number one. Of course, dual wielding had long been killed off by then, so I'll take your word for it.

Still excited to see 343's spin on the mechanic if they felt confident enough to keep it rolling despite so many voices allied against its existence. From the ashes, my hype is restored.

Fuck it I take back my earlier statement, this thread made my day.

More props to Halo peeps.

And yeah, DW back in the day was generating massive hate from everyone I knew. Turned out we all used the BR anyways.

That lungeless melee in Halo 1 is so damn sexy. I don't care what dark magic it takes to improve the netcode* to an acceptable level to bring it back--it must be done.

*That was part of the reason I've come across back in the day; don't know whether it still applies.

And then there was the contingent that complained that the BR was overpowered because dual wielding now made every other non-power weapon pretty bad on its own.

Halo PC is basically the complete opposite of Reach's double melee shenanigans. You can't land a melee in it at all. You had to lead melees, but even then they were so inconsistent lol. I mean, you see someone standing still and it's still a better idea to shoot him instead of going for a backsmack. Though Halo PC's netcode isn't something to gauge anything by. I liked CE's melee.

I don't care either way, lunge being introduced to melees in Halo made it a first person fighter in a lot of encounters, it's shitty gameplay. Prevents you from having excellent close range gun fights, instead it's just land a few shots then tap the melee button, you couldn't do that in CE, you had to be real close and aim your melees as much as you aimed your shots. Backwhacks were still very effective in CE without the lunge as well.

The melee animations from H1 were the best. That's one thing I do miss from it. Halo 2 had the fast animations, too. Kind of crummy they went away from that, and instead making melee uber powerful in turn. :|

They were sluggers in CE, too. Difference was it took some skill to land that haymaker, and there was no lunge. Posters above corroborated my thought that it was because of compromises with the online viability of the mechanic, which is understandable, but still. We all yearn for the glory days, sometimes.

is it bad that I've been really enjoying COD4 since the new halo 4 news? :/

Gotta get that practice in.

Still doesn't excuse how far Bungie went with Halo 2's magnetism, auto aim and inclusion of lunge.

While the video you posted was relevant, I actually had the video in mind where the guy goes up a lift while someone else shoots a PP overcharge at him, and it does a near 90 degree turn to chase the guy up.

Is there a playlist in Reach with no bloom but with jetpack, sprint, nerfed camo, nerfed armorlock and etc? I was thinking about playing something like that to get into a Halo 4-ish mp gameplay mood. Not joking or being sarcastic, I really want to like Halo 4 vanilla.

edit-

Is that the super slayer I keep reading about?

edit2-

v Thanks, will try to get into it.

The TU Zero Bloom Beta playlist is exactly that. Super Slayer is 85% bloom.

The Arena is 85% bloom but with only Sprint and Hologram. I haven't touched Reach in a few weeks but that sounds pretty great.
