Kid Icarus Uprising |OT| On a Wing and a Prayer

One thing I don't like about the difficulty levels is that if I want to try to play at a 9.0, I need hearts to even select that difficulty. I want to try to beat Chapter 2 at a 9.0, but after I die, I get kicked back to 8.0. I already beat it at that, so I exit and retry.

But I've already lost my hearts, so I can't even play at that difficulty anymore unless I go farm them. Not a fan of farming or grinding for any game, so I think that's a lame mechanic. I just want to play on Chapter 2 at 9.0 to see if I can grab some nice weapons and see if I can beat it.

Or you control the camera with the pointer. The closer you get to the edge, the faster you turn. Like every other Wii shooter.

This. If it was completely customizable with turning speeds, you could turn as fast or faster than you do with this method.

The game could've been easily in my top 10 because this truly is the best Nintendo game in a long time but the controls really ruined the experience.
It would be really stupid to do melee attacks on waggle.

Just popping in to say Viridi Palms are OP online. They're hard to dodge, the charge attack is bullshit and everyone is starting to pick up on that. Most common weapon I've encountered in LvD. My Silver Bow doesn't stand a chance. :(

A lot of weapons and powers seem pretty unbalanced, but I've still been having plenty of fun online with friends. I wish there was a random weapon mode, or something that would give everyone a random weapon within a certain power range. Maybe even a new weapon after every death. It would make it very interesting.

Lies.
Viridi Palms get destroyed if you stay far enough.

Bows just get destroyed by Palms in general.

The maps are usually small enough that it's pretty easy for them to close distances. Usually they'd run Bumblebee, Counter, Mega Laser, Sky jump and just become a killing machine. I'm just saying if there's any weapon you can call bullshit on it's the Viridi Palms.

This seems to be forgetting some things though and is only so perfect because people keep forgetting them/leaving them out... Controlling Pit with Analog and setting the reticle to be controlled by the Pointer is fine, but that leaves you with one other thing that still needs to be controlled, the thing that gives people the most trouble in the land section to begin with: the Camera. All you have left at this point is the D-pad and that's... not that great for controlling a camera either. And besides, there's something else that's being forgotten about here that would probably be mapped to the D-pad, the same thing that it's used for on the 3DS: the Powers, and there's really no where else for those to go, so..

I'm not sure what's so bad about controlling the camera with the dpad. Find a nice, medium speed, and I think it would work fine.I usually only make slight adjustments or constantly rotate to turn with my character. Those could be done by tapping left/right or holding them. Powers can easily go on +, - and A. In fact, that setup for powers would also be tons easier. It'd be a shame to clutter the only screen with them though.

The controls haven't stopped me from enjoying this fantastic game, but they've definitely soured a nearly perfect experience. I don't feel fully in control. It also doesn't help that I constantly feel like I'm ruining my 3DS by over using the touch screen. Plus I'm not usually at a table, so I can't use the stand and my hand falls asleep a lot. : \

It's so great in spite of that stuff though. Love this game. :)

Yea I think I'm done with the game. I appreciate all the content and presentation, but the controls are still awkward and crampy 15 hours in. It's not completely horrible, but I don't want to deal with them for completing the latter half of the levels on 9. I mostly play my 3DS on the bus too and this game doesn't really work there. Multiplayer also seems like a clusterfuck of melee and alpha striking, but maybe that just needs time to sort itself out.

I would love if the sequel was on the Wii U using pointer controls. I'm not a big fan of the bounding box style aiming, but it would better than the current method.

After a slow start, this is game now is spectacular! Does it keep getting better and better? (Chapter 11 so far)

Lol, where's that avatar from?

Well there is a thread called
Tengen Toppa
Kid Icarus Uprising SPOILER Thread | The next chapter is even better.
So yes?

I have the chance to order this game for $60 (ugh overpriced games over here) or get it for 55 - 57 this weekend. I know I should wait (I also don't have the time to play it now) but I want it with meeeee =/

That would of been amazing to me as well. After getting used to playing S&P1 and then playing the wii version, I felt like it was a perfect fit and can barely go back to the first. I think it's the same deal here, though I don't mind the 3DS controls either. I think the Wiimote/Nunchuk would be a perfect fit, but I don't think waggle would be necessary for melee attacks.

Fucking a man, I seriously can't stand the fact that you go down in intensity and lose hearts from dying, it's so annoying. I really wish that could be turned off or something because it really stops me from even wanting to attempt some of the chapters, just due to the fact that I only have around 20k hearts on average.

Another thing I hate are those
shrimp mages
, I just don't know how to get away from them if I get turned into a
shrimp.
I almost threw my 3DS because of a stupid fucking
shrimp mage
; I went from 9.0 intensity to around 5.0 from the same one.

One power lets you cure any status effects, even tempura. If you're really having trouble with those enemies, it would be worth it to use that power.

I think outside of
Chapter 10
you can just run by them. I recommend using tireless, some kind of speed power, or maybe something like transparency (though I don't have personal experience with that.) And in the one case you do have to fight it, it's pretty much just it in the room so if you watch him and play it a little careful you shouldn't ever have to worry about getting hit.

Anyways,
hard mode boss rush is... hard.
(Post game minor spoiler.) I think it's probably going to be a while before I can manage it.

I imagine it'll be more of an endurance test than anything. It'll take so long to get through them all, compared to Easy. I might one day complete every chapter on 9 intensity, but
boss battle hard
, no thanks.

Being banned while this game launched was awful, what an amazing game this is, the best on the system by far, Sakurai remains godtier in my book.

Do we really need to spoiler tag the Tempura Wizard? He was part of the pre-release marketing.

What weapon type do you use? As a Palm user I have always had enough mobility to avoid their attacks.

Also, one brief instance aside, I've never had any heart issues. Have you already beaten all those levels on 8? I guess maybe I'm creeping up in intensity more slowly than you, but I have always been awash in hearts. Once you get above 7, it is a given that you will get 10,000+ per level.

lele not you toooooooooooooooo

I was really weirded out by the controls at first and also was, yeah this game is pretty cool, but would've made a better wii game, after like 2 days I made a 180° and couldn't be happier with the way it controls. It's just something about the stylus being tangible that makes the experience sooo good.

You know it's better with Wii controls, admit it...
The most annoying stuff is that without the stand you literally can't play it, i've only done one chapter in the bed and i have to do it at intensity 2 because the 3ds is too uncomfortable for this control scheme.

Anyway not that i'm unhappy with the game it's still the best game on the 3DS and is much better than many of the stuff released on the Wii.

For the people complaining about the waggle for melee attacks: it's just to give a sense to the accelerometer but you can map the melee attacks easily with B or A...

So I bought this at BB's 30 buck sale and started playing last night. I got to say it is a very charming and beautiful game (in the air sections mostly). Never played the original KI but as an old school gamer all of the little touches are tickling me to death.

But good lord the controls are terrible. I played two chapter last night and it feels like someone has been sitting on my wrist for a week or something. And there seems to be some lag in the stylus movement.

One question, about how many chapters are there?

I have kept controls @ default and never used the stand its been fine for me. Not a problem. I even gave it to my gf's 5 year old brother on the weekend and thought he would really struggle with them but he was doing ok.

Maybe my hands are just too big but without the stand it's like i'm playing at 50% of my possibilities.

I think you are the first person in this thread that has actually used the stand continuously. I just rest it on my right knee while I rest my right forearm on my right thigh and that works perfectly for me. I am also able to do a version of this while I am lying in bed.

I use the stand nearly nonstop. While I can play without it, I'm much improved while using it. Especially on 9.0 Intensity runs where I have to focus and have perfect timing. Multiplayer, I don't care, so I can walk around with my 3DS and spam homing shots. :p

There are 9 chapters. Also, the best way to get used to the controls imo is to repeat Chapter 1 a few times until you get good with the ground controls.

I'll keep going and hope my muscles adapt. I think I have a bit of that carpal tunnel thingy going on after playing so many games over 20 something years.

It's a shame as everything else about KI seems to be a delight.

Thanks for the tip as well.

Also, are the KI 3d/anime shorts in the game as unlockables, please say yes because that shitty Nintendo Video thing is not available in my country sigh.

Well... I`m OK with this.

You weren't expecting 20+ chapters of single player just to kill Medusa, were you? geez.

btw, got the most awesomest weapon ever just now: a no-frills 100 value Magns Club. Why is that great? Because I can start the battle by self-destructing w/ little to no damage to team health, and then proceed to charge at the other team with an never-ending array of freeze and petrify attacks. Even at 0 value it takes down bows/staves up close with ease, and if they somehow manage to take me out before I get close to them, it's nothing more than a jab to the team life bar.

Head to the option screen and tinket the Reticle sensitivity to your liking. I like most of the settings to be put on very high (inlcuding "Stop Slower" so the cursor has more inertia).

Q, I expect you to add me as your friend for this game! I also don't know how to join other peoples' multiplayer games...

What weapon did you use? Clubs rock it so hard aside from not having enough ranged attacks. -_-

Gaol blade with 4 range and 4 defense. Even with that defense boost I had a hell of a time. Man I can't even imagine trying boss rush with a club unless their charge shots have huge ran, I mean some of the bosses
Pyrrhon
are a nightmare unless your weapon has good range.
