Fez's dev to japanese developers: "your games just suck"

I'm sorry, I forgot we all lived in Euroland and Japan.

Even if we're excluding it, there's still Kid Icarus, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Resident Evil Revelations.

It seems Fish isn't the only idiot...

As for the game, I'll look into it if it hits Steam. The bugs are unfortunate for Polytron and the customers but karma is a bitch like that.

Problem? I don't like to support assholes with my money, totally insane I know it. Can't wait for your sarcastic reply.

Nah, I won't flatter you with another one of my sarcastic comments. I will just say that I think you hurt yourself more than him, especially if you were interested in playing this game. I mean, dang, if most US developers said this -- and who knows, more probably think it -- would you "ban" their games from your playing experience?

Oh, and of course I need to ask, if some Japanese developer said "US games just suck," and he was the head of Atlus or some amazing game company, does that mean you wouldn't support that asshole? That'd be a lot of games to not support.

Fez is from Montreal ;)

What? No! My plan, it is dead.

What-ifs don't mean much.

And we've been over all this. Fish said he was sorry for being rude, the apology was accepted.

Yes, most people (at least in my circles) agree with the essence of what he was saying.

The comment is definitely rude and I don't appreciate that. But still, I don't know, the "I'll show him by not buying the game" thing has always kind of made me raise an eyebrow, especially when it's something so slip-of-the-tongue like this. But that's, like, my opinion, as the other side is the opinion of others.

And what do you mean what-ifs don't mean much? The same thing could happen on the other side, and I was curious to see the response if that was the case.

It really wasn't that considering that he thought it would be a great idea to repeat the same thing on his Twitter account.

What I mean is that I don't know how I'd react, it would have to actually happen. I probably should've said "What-ifs don't mean much to me".

I am not hurting myself in the least. Not giving a shit head my money, its very simple in concept. Even easier to do.

For me it's rudeness more than anything... which probably means we simply WON'T be seeing anything like that from most Japanese developers. They might have similar thoughts, if not STRONGER (Fez is clearly evocative of an older time in Japanese development, I doubt you'd get the same kind of respect from some Japanese developers that hate American games), but they'll know better than the shoot their mouth off at a Q&A. Not that doesn't prevent potentially more vile stuff from coming out (Sugiyama example).

Actually, that highlights another angle here: not many are involved in this. Sugiyama's stances are abhorrent, but he's just one man out of several dozen, if not hundreds, even if he's one of the most important contributors. Fish is one out of, what, 4? He's a much larger fraction of the whole thing, and likely gets a bigger percentage of the profit as a result. I don't think this is enough to do anything more than DELAY buying it for myself, but I definitely don't think it was good for him to act like that.

Played it at a friend's house yesterday for like 20 minutes. Was boring. He seems to like it though.

"20 minutes" of watching somebody play a puzzle game doesn't really give someone any sort of license to say if it is good or bad.

And FateBreaker yes I would still think the same. What makes this worse for me is the blatant rude nature of the guy. Mouths off at a Q&A like that, treats people like shit over twitter , and like another poster said he is 1/4th of his studio. Meaning if I pay for the game, I am supporting him all the more.

Ya by the time we are all dust from a solar flare it really won't matter that I didn't buy Fez. But I still feel better not giving my money to people like this, even if it is a good game.

Kid Icarus Uprising, Tales of Graces F, Rhythm Heaven Fever, Final Fantasy XIII-2. Probably forgetting a few, but all of these are better than Fez.

LOL, no. I don't care about who makes the game, I care about the game itself. And Fez is one of the best I've played in the last couple of years. Amazing in every sense.

I got a code for the game, so I wouldn't even have to support Fish with my own money in order to play Fez. But, I've not yet decided if I'll even support him with my time.

Might seem petty of me, sure, but his part in all of this really bothered me. Wasn't even just the initial comment—it was how he reacted to it and his attitude afterward. I'm sure Fez is a great game, and I did have interest in it—at the same time, I have so many other games still to play that it wouldn't be like I'd be depriving myself of enjoyment.

Fair enough. I just don't think it will "damage" him much if you don't buy the game; however, it seems like you realize that and it is really an issue of you feeling better, which I could understand. I agree it was very disrespectful. I just come from the end to play a game I am interested in because many others work hard on it. This reminds me of the Shadow Complex situation, which I also thought was kind of weird. Card barely had any input in the game yet others wanted to ban his game and deprive those who did work really hard on it, and there were quite a few. This is a bit different since there were less than a handful of members on the Fez team, but still. Anyway, I understand, just don't agree.

Played the demo.
Enjoyable, but not earth-shattering enough to give license to mock Japanese games.
Certainly a great Indy game, and definitely worth the 80pts they are asking.
