PowerUp 2012 | Fighting game tournament | April 13-15

Sounds kinky. Also, yeah, this is the first one a Morrigan has taken. I can hear the Capcops coming for that ass already with the nerf paddles. :lol
xsZya.png

I don't think the paddles scare her. :3
Nope. Morrigan isn't even the problem. Don't you think it's crazy that we had maybe 5 teams with Hidden Missiles on it in the top 8, and 2 Morrigans, but people are complaining about Morrigan, and how she's near undefeatable when backed by Hidden Missiles? I'm not even saying Doom needs a nerf, but I think the lack of logic is wild.
The lack of logic makes sense once you realize that most people these days have very little experience outside the new mainstream games in the US. Japan probably isn't phased by Morrigan's nonsense since they see crazy shit in a much larger pool of games(KOF, BB, VSav, 3S, Guilty Gear, AE, UMvC3 and a whole host of niche fighters).
Skullgirls and VSavior were great to watch. Dem loops, Waddle Dee umbrella combos, and a Sasquatch goin nuts. Good stuff.
Skullgirls>Vampire Savior>UMvC3>Everything else

That is my list and UMvC3 being third just means this was a freaking awesome major as far as I'm concerned since UMvC3 was great for me. I'd also say that Lei Lei, Anak, Fish and Morrigan showed off way more fun stuff.

I have never seen a tier list in SSF4/AE that didn't put Sagat in top 10, he's pretty much still a top tier even after his nerfs from vanilla. So him sticking to Sagat is fitting to his statement. Either way Sanford is obviously not a tier whore so anything he said shouldn't be taken seriously.
The point I'm making is that he's still a character specialist and not a tier whore, so in the end he's not even really following his own advice.

Not really he went to Sagat during the middle of super's life iirc.

I don't think this is ever going to happen.

America is super, super lazy when it comes to fighting games these days. Not even saying that this is strictly an American thing; it's just the only scene I follow. Nobody experiments enough to build a solid counterpick stable anymore. This is super-apparent when it comes to SF4: The only dedicated Viper players we have have pretty much mained her forever; they weren't bandwagon hoppers. Sanford famously said "pick a top tier" but stuck with Sagat the whole way even after he was nerfed pretty hard. Everyone was more interested in bitching about Yun than learning Yun. If you compare old (or even recent) SF2 tournaments, it's a night and day difference where people are more than willing to counterpick their way around a bad match-up when necessary.

Same goes for Marvel 3. People pick their 3 rushdown point characters, put little thought into making a well-rounded team, and whine nonstop when they get curbstomped by a team archetype that should and does counter them perfectly. I haven't even watched much competitive Marvel 2 in my days, but even then I've seen more counterpicks on average in that game than I have in Marvel 3. (Chris G, ironically, happens to be one of the very few players who at least has a Plan B team to fall back on when his usual stuff doesn't cut it.)

I just don't know what it is, but I don't see attitudes changing much. People would rather whine and move onto a different game when their usual shit doesn't work than put in a little bit of practice to be more well-rounded when needed.

The new gen games are relatively young and there are a lot more factors than laziness at play. We're seeing weird random teams pop up here and there though...Evo should be fun. and if MVC2 can last 10 years...damn, mvc3 can probably push 20+ if the players stay on it.

And SF2 is just the most unfair comparison... it's the oldest game and the people who play it have it tattooed in their brains. You also have 6 buttons, a couple command normals, and a couple specials per character to learn in a relatively small roster and only one super meter to slowly build for one super combo as a meta-game element.

I've said since the beginning stuff like Doom's missiles should disappear when the on point character is hit.
I'm tempted to agree with you, but it would just mean that he would only get used by teleporters.

Edit: I would rather assists get an overall so we have less "point" characters.
Give me my goddamn tracking Purification Capcom!

It's not something that I feel should happen, but I'm curious as to how things would change if Doom's missiles went away after he got hit as an assist.

I don't know. MVC3 is an executionally easy game; it doesn't take a lot of practice to become a contender in it. So I absolutely think it's laziness in people not experimenting enough to have multiple team types on hand. (I'm totally guilty of this too, btw. I'm just saying.)

Doom needs to be nerfed because its unfair that he's allowed to have that many good assists. Spread the love around, you heartless dictator.

EDIT: fucking autocorrect.

People are lazy until something big pops up. IIRC, in MvC2 Storm and sent were considered ass tier, I'm positive Storm was, until years into the games life. There are usually only a handful of innovators in a community with most people, hastily, flocking to what strong early.

Storm could hang at the top edge of the screen building meter for days. That invalidated a lot of the cast all by itself, and it played right into the EC lame style that's especially effective at the start of a game before people really know how to push combos to the next level. I'm positive that she was identified to be good really early on.

I'm trying to find a tier list post by Viscant a year or so into MvC2's lifespan. The characters considered to be godlike at the end of its days were also considered to be top 10 or so early on.

From what I get talking to players who were into the scene back then early in MvC2's life the only character that's always been top tier was Magneto with the other god tier character from early being Iron Man.

No sir! Everyone should get 3 good assists. Don't go backwards, make Doom the standard!

3 assists for Dormammu:
1) Tracking Purification
2) Dark Matter
3) Flame Carpet

3 assists for Amaterasu:
1) Cold Stars
2) Bloom
3) Paper Cut (hits overhead)

3 assists for Firebrand:
1) Hellfire L
2) Hellfire H (speed it up, this thing needs a buff in general)
3) Bon Voyage (I SAID IT!)

Or heck, give Firebrand his UNBLOCKABLE Demon Missile H as an assist. Why not?!

Give C. Viper her eye laser, Wolverine a Swiss Cheese that lasts as long as Chunner's legs, etc. Everyone should have 3 awesome assists, or they should just let us choose anything, Skull Girls style.

Marvel vs. Capcom 4: Buff Moar

I hope there is no ceiling on the craziness we get from the franchise. Shit, Sixfortyfive's joke about ceiling bounces seems more attractive by the day :lol

What about Ice Man? I remember him and Ruby Heart wrecking in very early MvC2.

Hey, I came up with ceiling bounces way back when I was playing around with Makoto for Mahvel.

The best thing about Marvel is that it can be this wild and I hate it when people think it should be balanced by nerfs. If I were in charge of the series, I'd just overcompensate for everything. Something stupid was discovered with character A? Buff the fuck out of everyone until their about on par in their own way! :lol

IMO, the goal of every game should be for it to be fun. In a fighting game, the characters ARE the fun. Thus, every character should be fun. Moreover, because it is a game that thrives on creativity, the developer ought to maximize the possible team formations as much as possible.

It feels like common sense to me...I wish it did to Capcom.

All this stupid drama in the FGC is getting retarded.

Ever since Cross Assault people have been overreacting to every little thing. It's like the people saying "zomg all this drama in the FGC lately" just started watching streams 3 months ago. This isn't shit lol.

And those guys are hipsters who know less about MvC2's early days than they claim to know. You can see for yourself what the tiers were considered to be in the summer of 2000:

It kinda makes sense for Capcom. Seth called MvC3 the ultimate fighting game sandbox and he's right, the level of creativity in the game is unparalleled, and that's what I value and prefer most vs. other fighters. Learn something, create something, rather than following something. Unfortunately, yeah some of the more maladaptive players are living by the third.

Skullgirls has some of that too. Which helps its appeal to me. Not much else comes close.

@AzureJerico: Damn.. I really want Makoto in Marvel now. AA moves causing wallbounce is godlike.

I like the idea, but Capcom has only recently gotten good at character balancing. A hypothetical MvC4 with custom assists may fall apart at the seams lol. They really ought to give better to assists to all characters though.

Word brah, there's been drama going on in the FGC every other week for years now. YEARS
