Finally some Dany in this episode. I still feel a little uneasy for her and her dragons. Maybe things will go fine for her and Jorah and the rest in Qarth. I was left scratching my head at the end like others here. Melisandre disrobes and she's suddenly pregnant and giving birth to some shadow spirit/demon. :0 What the hell?
The thing i don't understand is if Stanis even knows the details of all this.

I get the sense that his talk with his main man indicated he was aware of all of it, but then it seems to go against character.

I don't know why everyone is so surprised by the ending?

I mean it's not like the walking dead was a "medival" story line. If we didn't see mythical events coming we were watching a different show.

so a dark shadow man emerged from her vagina? where else are things born? ;)

Well Stannis said something like "clean ways don't win wars" after Davos chastised him a bit for what he was planning to do with Melisandre. Stannis is aware that something crazy is gonna go down since that's why he smuggles her in in the first place, though it's unclear so far whether he knows the specifics of it.

WOW, this season is finally getting some action done.

damn that last thing at the end... some demonic child for sure.

Guessing that king of light guy is possesed by the lady of fire, acting all crazy towards his brother.

I have a feeling we will see her get killed and the king stanis will be good and help kill all those fucking lannisters.

I don't think his attitude towards Renly is a good example of Stannis "acting all crazy". He really is the rightful heir. Renly has no legitimate claim. Both Ned and Rob actually agreed with Stannnis' stance

just musing at that map, The king runs "dragonstone" and casterly rock? (or under robert, dragonstone and storms end?)

Casterly Rock is run by Lord Tywin, Dragonstone by Lord Stannis, and Storms End by Lord Renly. All of these Lords are in theory loyal to the King, so the King runs all of them. In the current situation only House Lannister seems to be loyal to the King, so he has no control over Dragonstone. There are some other areas besides Casterly Rock that are sworn to House Lannister, however. Such as Harrenhal and most of the West

Because both brothers (Renly and Stannis) believe they should be king (as opposed to the king's son, which is too young to rule) and their banner men support them.

Edit: Wait, i think you edited your post? Oh well.

Joffrey is so hateable. It's amazing. Best TV villain ever? I'd be inclined to say yes. Between what he did with Sansa and the prostitutes I want to see him get the most gruesome death in TV history. Torn limbs.

"There's no cure for being a cunt." hahahaha

Glad to see a lot of Arya in this ep and that someone else finally twigged she was a girl. That prison was grim. Although the torture scene being the same as 2 Fast 2 Furious kinda took away from that moment, ha.

No idea what the fuck that ending is. Hopefully it will be something cool and not lame.

Still not getting the nudity/sex/pace complaints. Just as amazing as season 1 so far. Top stuff.

that's bizarro, the capital city where the king sits is attached to what is now essentially a rebellion fiefdom/province. Didn't stannis send out a letter declaring joffrey illegitimate?

Yeah, I think I get it but it seems to me he is at a disadvantage by being King, since he would normally be the (illegitimate) head of House Baratheon and all of the bannermen sworn to Stannis and Renly would be loyal directly to him. The other Baratheons shouldn't control anything, like Benjen Stark or Kevan Lannister. My understanding is that they only control Dragonstone and Storm's End because Robert gave them the land when he became King

Next Sunday can't come soon enough.

Can't remember the last time I was so anxious to see what happens on a show.

I wish it was possible to just buy all 10 episodes of the season at a high price and watch them all in one go.

Does youth have anything to do with it? I was under the impression that they wouldn't care as long as Joffrey was actually the true heir which is why none of this got clarified.

I think the issue with the bastards and killing them is that it's apparent that all of Robert's offspring have similar traits as him (black hair and blue eyes) as where Joffrey/Myrcella/Tommen are all blond. So you're right in that it's not a claim to legitimacy for the throne for the bastards, but a claim to illegitimacy for the throne regarding Cersei's children, in my opinion.

That too.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
I like the idea they didn't explain who "The brotherhood" is. They are taking the approach that at this point in time, the audience at large doesn't know either. That way you sympathize that much more with the prisoners and the ones being tortured.

There is no hope for them to save themselves, and nothing we can shout at the TV for them to save to stop the pain.

Why are they being tortured? They don't know the reason behind it. It's agonizing to watch, especially when you realize that there is no knowledge they are withholding because they simply don't know either. Puts you in their shoes a bit. It was really well done.

Tyrion is such a fucking boss. I had a huge smile on my face when he came to Sansa's rescue.

When he tells that one soldier/guard/whatever (paraphrasing) "I am not insulting the king, I'm educating my nephew" was great.

The new Gregor looks pretty slim compared to original Gregor. Maybe it was just the shot/angle? I just recently watched Spartacus: Vengence, which has original Gregor, and that motherfucker is HUGE. Truly a 'mountain'. :D

Dany and Rob Stark seem to be stalling a bit. I know Rob is in the middle of a war, but he's gotten like 3 minutes of screen time in the past 2-3 episodes it seems like.
I have a feeling Dany's involvement in S2 is about to ramp up. Jorah seemed pretty apprehensive about this new location. Looks too good to be true. :/

Fuck I wish these were 15-18 episode seasons.

I hate Joffrey just because of the way he looks. Ever since I saw him I kept wishing someone would just cut his headoff.

I'm not sure if he would be the best TV villain. Maybe it's just because he's a little kid I can't take him serious. Regardless, I would put Agent Stahl from Sons of Anarchy as the best.

Stannis is going to war because he believes he is the rightful heir to the throne. Renly is going to war mostly because of the power vacuum and the support he has behind him. He doesn't really have a legitimate claim to the throne regardless of Joffrey's parentage.

one scene no one is talking about which i thought was the best in the episode (acting was superb) was the encounter between Cat and Littlefinger. What, exactly, was in the chest he brought to her though? Ned's clothes or something?

Bones.
And Littlefinger is an awesome character and actor, although his hands were stiff this episode. :p

Ned's bones.

I assumed his remains, he said about burying him. The chest was a bit small but that seemed the most logical thing to assume to me.

Well... you know. Some assembly required.

Why did Daenarys refuse to show the damn dragons to the Thirteen at the gate if she and her people were starving and needed the hospitality badly?

Because she didn't have enough money in the budget to show them right now. :p

You can fanwank it a bit and say that maybe she was concerned for their safety, or that they would see them and still not let her in... buuuut it was pretty contrived.

She's a stubborn Targaryen and not used to taking orders. I would also assume she is not interested in becoming a circus act, parading her dragons across the world for others' delight. Give someone an inch and they can take a mile...

Plus she probably has trust issues after what happened with the witch lady last season. Dragons are worth much more than gold. It's like how you don't walk around downtown counting your $100 bills in the middle of the night.

I just got the impression she felt so insulted by their 'welcome' that she felt they weren't deserving of gazing upon the wonder of her adorable baby dragons. I imagine if that one guy hadn't saved the day, she probably would have. And the dragons are also her leverage, so she may not have wanted to play that card too early.

Best episode of the season, I will definitely have to start reading the books this summer. I can barely wait between episodes.

Joffrey. This kid. I've wanted him dead since I first saw him, but he's just too good of a character to kill off this early. He's scenes this episode just took the hate to another level.

The ending was completely unexpected for me, in an exciting way and a worrying way. Let's hope this things isn't like the black fog in lost, I hated that. Dragons sound cool, but I don't want no invincible fog, I hate things that cannot be killed.

I interpreted it that she rather have them think she's crazy because they could easily take the dragons from her. They don't really believe her and she'd rather keep it that way.

He thinks he does on the basis of his brother renouncing it by his actions. Plus everyone was assuming the younger brother was the one interested.

Both are using Joffrey's illegitimacy as the basis for the fight.

If she showed the dragons before entering they could take them and kill her. I thought it was smart to haggle that point but wouldn't have insulted them by threatening to burn them up lol.

suffering in a dungeon and or torture chamber would be nice so he has time to realize he's just an asshole and that is how he treated others... but I doubt it will go that far with a boy.

I think it is more that she is trying to prove to everyone that she is more than just the mother of dragons, but she is an actual ruler.

And I am sure the fact that they are babies might have something to do with it to...

AGREED.

I hope the show doesn't get too magical. Last season it was great we saw the White Walkers once and the dragons were left as the very final scene. Obviously those two things will play a big part of the show going forward, but I don't want too many supernatural elements. The way this was introduced was slightly worrying. I don't want people to be able to fart out magical black creatures.

The great thing about this show is the human interaction. It doesn't need to start having tons of different supernatural things to keep it interesting. I guess it depends on what direction the books went in... (obviously don't say what that was)

Eh, you're talking about a show that hasn't exactly been shy about infant deaths. I imagine Joffrey won't be spared from a gruesome death.

I was really excited to see Tywin again more than anything. I'm not sure why but I just loved the character and actor. He really is one of the more perfect castings on the show and was hoping to see more of him. I watch this ep a second time last night and FFS Joeffrey is just evil. You get this moment where you think he is just scared to have two whore in his room but it's so dark so fast. I think he really just hates women in general. It felt like he believed all the rumors about his mother and he thinks Sansa is trying to stab him in the back and he just doesn't trust them...or anyone.
