I think I read that the whole get a character to 10 to unlock Hardcore was just for the beta. For release, I believe you'll still need to complete the game on Normal difficulty to unlock Hardcore.

I have to show this to my GF.

Diablo 3 is just a really ironic plot by the real greater evils to take over the world when all productivity screeches to a halt worldwide on may 15th.

Alright. Major work goes in starting this weekend. Until now, I've mostly been been prepping some text and gathering resources that I want to include or link to.

At the moment, I have a sort of collection of disparate things, but I'll really start putting them together in the next few days. Graphics I'll work on this weekend.

It will be up on the 8th!

You know..you will be writing HISTORY!

Do people really believe that some supposedly perfect build (a la hammerdin) won't be discovered and overused in D3 just because there's a large number of raw combinations possible? People gravitate towards min/maxing any way they can.

The Hammerdin was vastly overpowered in D2 becase of two reasons:

1) Its damage was magic-based which virtually no monsters were immune to.

2) Sheer raw damage output that was unmatched by any other spells in the game.

The first point is easy enough to balance and likely won't exist in D3. As for the second point, with weapon damage now the predominant factor in damage outputs across all skills and all classes, it is hard to see how one particular build can stand out so much.

Some builds will likely eventually dominate the scene but I seriously doubt the disparity between builds will be as large as it was in D2.

I don't think so...

The change to when Hardcore is unlocked is a change that, unless it is changed between now and release, will be the case in retail Diablo III.

So, rush to 10 is on!

You could always play the ultimate hardcore mode:

Regular, after having made a pact with yourself to delete your character upon the first death.

Is better loot earned on hardcore mode or is it more or less just there so you are in constant fear of dying and losing everything?

Not terribly thrilled knowing my Amazon CE preorder won't get here till likely 20 hours after everyone else has been playing the game. Wish I could just send them a note to gently open my copy and e-mail me the code before sending it to me.

That was a contributing factor when I decided to just get the digital edition. None of the stuff in the CE is that spectacular anyway, but the thought of being 20 hours behind (as silly as it is) really did my head in.

I am still contemplating buying a digital version and just updating 24 hours later when I get the CE.

damn i am now officially torn between physical and DD version :(

i bet if i go Physical my amazon copy would arrive like days after the 15th (too cheap to do the release day priority shipping or whatever) and on the other hand if i grab the DD it's more expensive already plus i woulnd't have a physical box, manual and i kinda like that stuff ugh what to do

The loot is the same from what I understand, what is different is HC characters do not have access to the real money AH.

So, what is the over/under on how long it takes for the first level 60 HC? And what class will they be?

Well, my issues with the downloader from the beta (crashing, terribad speeds, then more crashing, all since early this year, worked fine when I first got it) seem to be affecting people pre-loading the full game as well. Thread on the official forum and some others as well, no real fix that seems to work at all.

Looks like I may have to actually get the boxed copy, but I am betting there will be patches a plenty so I do want to fix whatever the issue is.

Yeah, Christ, I just checked how much Blizzard charges for the digital version. 60 fucking euros, that's $80!

Fuck it, I need this game bad. And waiting for a few more days will suck, but that's 30 euros more than I'm paying for a physical copy from Amazon.

Goddamn digital distribution. At the moment Valve (during sales) and GoG seem to be the only ones living up to its promises.

Even if you pay for release day you may not get it. I have Amazon Prime so I get release day for all games and such. Mine is still slated to show up on the 17th. Assuming the order page is to be believed. :(

About 20 hours to finish the game... Let's say 70hours to finish hell and lv to 60.
3 days after the launch without sleeping maybe 4 days if blizzard make some "gear check boss".

Don't think it'll be quite that fast...

This isn't going to be like WoW where there's going to be a semi-steady stream of new content. Inferno's going to have to last this game for a bit longer than MMO endgame stuff. At least, I would imagine it to work that way. Or perhaps they intend to channel some of that RMAH money back into new content.

Yeah, my line of thinking is more with regards to actual difficulty, not length so much. At this point no one knows how hard Hell and Inferno are going to be.

I was just talking about first 60, which would be start of Inferno. Who knows how long until you can beat Inferno in HC... especially solo.

Good point. Though I wonder how difficult Hell's going to be compared to DII's Hell (perhaps a little less so in order to accommodate for Inferno).

Content can be in the form of new events, new inferno monster packs, new item types, new dye drops etc.

A lot of that list isn't tooo hard to implement.

So what's the deal with different armor? I completed the open beta with each class and there only seemed to be one set(with a unique look, stats varied of course) for each class no matter what I picked up from enemies. No random pieces except for weapons. Is that the first armor tier out of 16, and the next different looking tier begins dropping at a higher level?

edit: Finally found a video that doesn't start from tier 2, so the answer seems to be yes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wc7aCV2Nvk

the thing that's going to be kind of nice is they're straying away from the old system of just dropping your resists and making monsters immune to stuff, and actually adding in new champion types. Excited to see what they throw at us in NM and Hell and Inferno.

yeah tell me about it, now you swayed me towards amazon again damnit :(

it's just i KNOW my buddy who gets the DD one will already have leveled the SHIT out of his Barbarian when i won't even have the game yet, and that kinda drives me nuts cos i'll never catch up to him then which pretty much makes COOP retarded :(

Yeah... in that case I'd probably go for the DD version. Those first few days are going to be pretty goddamn fun, as an event.

And what's 30 euros anyway? Two trips to the shops tend to cost as much nowadays.

why not go to a midnight lanuch?

Well, since there are no longer immunities (just high resistances), it'll be easier in that sense.

However, champions & rare packs will now have 3-4 affixes, which depending on different combinations will probably be brutal.

We'll see... in 18 days. 18 days, still can't wrap my mind around that.

It's possible that Amazon will ship the game early to accommodate release date delivery for everyone across the US. Which means if you're on the West Coast, you might get it early :)

Major price difference with amazon, at least, that's the reason for me.

Yeah it's close. It's been long enough though, goddamn :p. Hope it lives up to the North versions of Diablo.

Would it be a good idea to get my paypal account verified now if I plan to use the RMAH to sell things?

This is a good point. Why wouldn't Blizzard tell them to send the games out a few days early, since no one can play until the game unlocks at midnight PST anyway?

The client on the disc will be not encrypted I guess - this would lead to datamining and spoilers before rls.

Aah, I thought people were already doing that using the pre-load files or something. I've been avoiding any and all datamining discussion for months now.

Someone has already made video turntables of all of the class armor sets for both sexes.

Barbarian

Demon Hunter

Monk

Witch Doctor

Wizard

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Anyone got a link to the Dark mod-comparison? The site where you had the option to see every filter?

The game looks so much better without any of those filters.

At first I liked the look that just using the sharpening filter added. After giving it a whirl, I prefer it without. For me the sharpening effect is just too much and often introduces artifacts in the UI and some of the finer details. If you reduced the sharpening by about 25-35% and could have it only apply to the game assets and not the UI, then I might actually use it.

I actually got a kick out of some of the comments that said the filter makes the game more fun!

Also, is it just me or does the "Stronger" category of the filter levels seem completely out of line with all of the others. It feels like there is a hue shift in that setting that the others don't have.

I stopped playing with the ambient occlusion enabled and just turned the gamma down and I have been very pleased with the results. Tried some of the darkd3 settings and it just doesn't look that great to me. After watching the art of Diablo 3 presentation from GDC and seeing/hearing why they made the art decisions they did I have a greater appreciation for it.
