Paid 10 bucks for the beta.

Rolled a witch, all I have is auto attack by punching. I can't kill much with it before I run out of potions and no loot has dropped so far. Furthest I got was a guy named Hillock who I couldn't even scratch.

Am I missing something? How do I get a spell to cast? Or am I supposed to be hitting people with my fists?

There should be a weapon right at the start of that level that you can pick up. You get your first spell after you kill Hillock
 
Played about 10 minutes.

Main impression - Diablo 2 HD with a complicated looking passives system. I'm going to have to look up a build.

There was a wand right by the body where you spawned.

Agreed, all of this stuff will be awesome once it comes out. A trap witch/templar/ranger would be interesting, as would trying out a totem templar/marauder, that said I guess it depends on what stats the gems require.

I'm pretty interested in seeing what they do with Act 3 as well

Yeah it's kinda luck of the draw whether you get a loot hog or not. I wonder if they can implement the each player gets their own loot system for the beta, it would be a welcome change in my opinion.

I completely stopped grouping because of the loot system. I don't need that stress. Especially given that it's beta and people are deep into "i don't give a fuck" mode.

Public parties are going to be awesome. Just make a fast movement speed tank, join random party steal all the loot and leave. Fuck yeah

Depends on if they implement a different looting system or not. I read somewhere in their beta manifesto that they have been considering adding a 'timed' looting mode where loot gets assigned to someone and is only visible to them for a set period of time then it becomes free-for-all.

I'm hoping they do something like that otherwise I won't be using the public party system at all. I've only been partying with friends I know and trust so far and that's worked out well, shared loot evenly and such.

The timed loot sounds good, like the D3 loot system but better :)

But if they remain with FFA Loot i would never use Public Partys :/

Still loving the beta, rolled a 2-Hander Duellist last night, loving the feel after DW fists for so long.

Hyped to see the last class, hoping for another ranged mele hybrid and maybe thrown weapons? That's the one thing I am missing right now.

look at the Int/Dex Items and the Int/Dex Area in the Passiv skill tree.
The Int/Dex Weapons are Daggers and Claws and we will get the Trap Support Gem at the same time, the 6. Class will be a Thief/assassine class :D
 
Are there others that don't like to play as female characters? I've been avoiding the ranger and the witch because of this. Thank god diablo 3 has the option to choose. I know its stupid, but I, well I just can't help it.

I am the same mate, I tend to RP a little even in my mind so I prefer male characters. Hoping the 6th is but I am with you on the idea you should be able to choose now (D3 and TL2 got that).

Maybe that's one of the premium cosmetics you can buy...?

6th class will probably be female, as we already have 3 male chars and only 2 female. Other genders will probably be added in expansions for free or as a DLC, for now they dont have resources to model and animate new ones.

Sex change options for each of the classes will most likey be a microtransaction. Also the witch is the best, Firestorm is awesome.

Dont understand 'slow pace' argument. Game is slow, but only at the beginning, later You have buffs, high attack/cast speed, faster running speed and use many skills.

Still i would like more movement skills like dashes or teleports etc.

Looks like an interesting game, I might have to keep my eye on that one. But then I like this genre of game a fair amount so.

Agreed, I've found you can make the combat in this game as fast-paced as you'd like. Slow and lumbering melee 2H tank, speedy spell-caster/assassin, snowballing minions builds that get faster the longer you spend in an area. I suppose the slow part is getting all those skills and such in the first place.

UPDATE:

It looks like we're still (tentatively) on for two hours from now. We have some bugs to fix and then a bit of testing, followed by deploying 0.9.8e which will contain the changes.

I will post the league password in this thread so that I don't have to send out 150 PMs. Please understand that this is just an early test of cut-throat and will probably be terrible the first time. The fun depends a lot on things like PvP damage multipliers (which we may not get right initially). Thanks for your patience :)

I play so much PoE in the last weeks and the last Q&A hyped me again so much :D

UPDATE2:

- This is a separate short-duration league that has its own stash (as usual). At the end of the event, characters and stashed items will be moved to Default.
- There's a PvP damage multiplier on levels below 15 because players start with a lot more life than they do damage. This multiplier will be adjusted substantially based on feedback from this event and others.
- Players are hostile by default to players who are not in their party.
- You can ctrl+click on the entrance to an area to use the Instance Management instance to manually enter any other player's instance of an area.
- The maximum party size is still 6.
- Cut-throat instances can hold a maximum of 12 players. This means that a full party is not safe because another party can invade them.
- This test is not a hardcore league. When you die, you lose the normal experience penalty for your difficulty plus 10% of your current level. You also drop all inventory and equipped items. Your flasks and equipped skill gems are not dropped.
- If you were killed by another player, your lost experience is awarded to them.
- If you attempt to abruptly leave the game in a non-town instance, you have to wait 5 seconds and are unable to move or use flasks.
- The grace period of invulnerability upon entering an area is 10 seconds rather than 5 seconds. This should start once the player is mostly done loading.

Yeah, we got to test it out for a little over an hour. I played an ice witch so I could possible freeze gankers, or at least slow them down.

Phase run is pretty broken early on. I managed to kill a guy trying to kill me though so its all good. I had tons of good gear too.

I'm watching this interview now, very informative and Chris speaks a little about traps and totems.
It will be awesome to link for example two/three auras to totem and free some hotkeys for other skills ;] And traps [totems too] will able to use existing skill gems like frost nova to cast it. He also mentioned 'flee' support gem, that makes enemies run out of char, or totem that taunt enemies. They are planning really cool stuff ;]
Oh and he also mentioned spears, that they want to do it, but rather in expansion, because they want to do skills for it and design unique gameplay around it, not just another weapon skin.
Next one, there will be fast weapon switch option :)

But totems will do less damage then traps because traps can only shot one time ^^

And i have seen a new Unqiue from a diamond Supporter which will have "Spells socket in this item have a chance of 10% to blind the Target", that sounds great. I hope we see more "Spells socket in this item ..." mods :D

ah, here

Modifiers like that could make for some really interesting builds. "Skills socketed to this item have a chance to increase *stat* for *time*" or something similar could be a fun mechanic to play with. Could be entirely balance-destroying as well. Also, giving chance to stun to skills like the support gem.

Actually it might be interesting to see some of the support gems' basic stats added to socketed items through a modifier like that. "Skills socketed to this item have increased melee physical damage", "Skills socketed to this item do increased weapon elemental damage", etc

If I have two summon zombie gems equipped, can I summon two of them? It seems to work that way sometimes but not others. I'm confused!

It's a bug that it works in the first place. I wouldn't rely on it because if you need that many zombies to survive, you will die when it is patched.

Anyway, it works as long as the two gems you're using aren't the same level so just stop leveling one.

Does this bug happen with the other summon skill gems as well? Or is it only the Zombie ones?

The people I've seen abusing this summon like 20 zombies along with other minions. You act like you can't spec for it AND use multiple gems lol

Pretty sure it works with other ones but if you can summon 14+ zombies it doesn't really make sense to abuse the other two

I wasnt aware of the bug I just used specters and skeletons for my other summons. Still adds up to a ton of minions :p.
 
just got 3 shotted by a bow user. Need to make the message that someone is in your zone bigger or make a sound. I don't look at chat during gaming because its full of retards.

Killed a few people with my ice mage. Once they are frozen I can pretty much permalock them down with ice spear

I hide global chat like almost always, so the message about invasion is clear ;]

I killed few as a ranger [like 5-6] and was playing it with two friends, but many were running away ;\
But oh man that flicker strike is so overpowered.

Damn that looks interesting, might be a bit tiresome to fight though if you don't have a way to get through their minions and kill them. Interested to see what the do with the enemy AI changes they're talking about.

This game just keeps getting better and better. Has anyone heard anything about when we might be seeing the next content update? They mention 0.9.9 in there, but not even a vague idea of when it might be coming.

I hope they make it so the foreground doesn't obscure your view indoors (and some outdoor areas) before they tweak it so you have to come at all the monsters strategically.

It's passable indoors now because you just stand there and spam your AOE attacks but the moment you'll have to navigate around blindly to avoid attacks you can't see, etc. it is going to get stupid

Agreed, and if they add any mechanics like the goat shaman using molten shield indoors it could get quite tricky. I wouldn't enjoy losing most of my health or being 1 shot by a shield exploding that I couldn't see. I've been having enough trouble lately with the rare enemies that give the "Allies reflect physical damage" aura indoors and me not being able to see the actual enemy properly through a wall on my marauder.

enemy ai improvements oh my godddd.

that is my biggest issue with this game. can't wait. 8)
