We knew sony where making a Smash Bro's game but I didnt think Sony was going to MAKE A SMASH BRO'S GAME. Was hoping for something closer to MvC then SSB but since its a fighting game I will have to get hands on to see how it controls. It looks like SSB but it could play completely differently.

The hades / Patapon Level is pretty neat.

Oh and the game NEEDS snake. Sly seems to be there version of SSB snake so maybe if they get Snake in there game he will have to be completely different. Maybe they just get Cyborg Ninja and completely avoid any crossover.

Definitely a fascinating prospect, but I'm gonna need Ratchet and Jak in it.

Edit: I can see a Ratchet & Clank Metropolis stage in GT's video, so Ratchet must be a given.

Ah yeah this might just how this particular mode works, who knows.

The default mode in Melee and Brawl has always been KO Count and everyone I know plays stock matches...so if this game really is inspired by Smash, Superbot will be sure to include plenty of different modes for peoples' tastes.

The way this is set up, where you basically need to fight to power up your character then unleash your super to get a kill, it makes sense that the gameplay is more about scoring KOs and getting lots of kills, rather than having a limited number of lives that deplete as you get KOed. I like it, but a Smash-like stock system would be cool to have too. Let's just hope there are lots of options.

I think Lara would be a pretty good 3rd party choice. Old school Lara. That's someone I totally associate with PS. Oh, and Sofia from Toshinden.

A BUZZ! stage? Seriously? I suppose shoehorning Fat Princess into this means any property is fair game. Maybe petals from Flower will be an unlockable character.

just like a fighting game, the opponent can just block and then counter-attack if he expects that same move

Depends on the move. It's totally possible for you to have a move that's completely safe on block or even leaves you at an advantage when blocked.

I figured he also meant whiffing moves in order to build meter.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Why would they not give Sly the ability to block in a fighting game. He was the only character they announced so far that I wanted to play...

That just means you have to play him differently. His invisibility should add some interesting options.

the stock system mode is confirmed to be in here too

I see it like a logical step. PS built a lot of characters, and now is the time of using the character popularity to mix them together. They made it in the Playstation Move Heroes, but not all characters fit in that kind of game. Not all characters will fit, also, in a conventional sidescrolling fighting game, or a shooter.

So a brawl game without blood is a good choice. Another option should be make a party game using the characters. Maybe some kind of board game using challenges. Sony should think about this...

Well, if you think that, there's not much I can do to change your opinion. Financially it makes sense (hopefully?) but I'd have preferred something different.

I'd love for the final battle to be really "out there" even though I know it's not feasible in a mass-market game like this.

Have someone from early PS1 era like Polygon Man be the "final" boss, except that when you beat him, you get sucked into some kind of dimensional rift that warps you back to 1995 pre-E3. There, in a Sony office, you fight 3 executives who are hell-bent on pricing the PS1 at $400+. After you defeat them, this clip plays...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFt_g2kMDYg#t=03m21s

...and then you're pulled back into the rift with the knowledge that you were partly responsible for PS1's initial success. Roll credits.

It's horribly cheesy and probably over half the people playing the game wouldn't understand what had happened, but it'd be a nice nod
that will never happen

Parappa has a super that insta-kills everyone. that's like eight blue shells of holy shit this is hot trash.

Where was that?

All I saw for PaRappa was him getting on his board and running over people for kills, something that should be easy to dodge if you see it coming (unlike the Blue Shells).

For third party, I would love them to include 1-2 characters from major publishers that have strong affiliation with playstation

Oh, Sony... you're just so clever and original!

I guess PlayStation people have wanted this for a long time? I guess if the characters fit together a little better, it'd be interesting. They should've stuck with the more kid-friendly stuff.

Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, and Sackboy are all pretty much given, seeing the stage selection.

I'd say Drake and Cole are also pretty much given.

Not really. Not being able to block in a fighting game is basically not being able to use rock in rock paper scissors; you lost an entire game mechanic and therefore your opponents can exploit it. You would have to play him differently but would you want to play him at all with that kind of handicap?

Also how are they gonna balance him turning invisible? Is there gonna be a meter that regulates how long he turns invisible or can he do it forever? I rather just be able to block :/

I really enjoy the Smash Bros games while recognizing they aren't incredible fighting games. They're so dependent on maximalism while working within the confines of a very distinct house style, and drawing on the company's history, that I don't really "get" this. Particularly since (from what we've seen) they haven't strictly adhered to the aesthetics of the quirkier characters. All seems a bit silly, but I guess we'll see! Maybe these characters resonate more with teenage males that grew up on a PlayStation-exclusive diet.

That Paul Gale guy's been right with everything he's said so far. According to him, Drake and Jak & Daxter (as a pair) are also playable, and the final roster count is somewhere around two dozen.

This is as kid friendly as they could go.

I would say so, they publish, and develop quite alot of Original IP.

As for the Playstation All Stars, I'm really looking forward to this. I've only ever been attracted to Nintendo hardware for third party games mostly back in the day, so I just never had much interest in most of their first party characters.

Sony on the other hand has a ton of first, and iconic third party characters to pull from. I'm really interested in seeing who they pull out of the grave for this. I will be hoping for Abe for as long as their is hope, his possession super could be glorious. Can't wait to have a game like this with some solid online support aswell.

Your post is so clever and original! I'm totally okay with this. Sony makes games for a lot of different audiences and it's cool to see franchises like Parappa and Patapon come together with Ratchet & Clank, Killzone and God of War.

For third parties, Crash Bandicoot, Snake and Cloud are the only "musts" for me. Anything else will be a nice surprise, but those 3 are mandatory. They are iconic Playstation characters.

Sly seems to be the only one of the 6 announced characters with teleport though, which IMO is a bigger advantage than invisibility.

People who have played this game say it's incredibly fun. Do you want another shooter on PS3 instead?

PlayStation came out in 1995. That is 17 years ago. The kids who grew up with PSX are adults now, and yea, they do associate with Sony more than Nintendo. I got a PSX for my 14th birthday so the PS1 dudes resonate strongly, but the PS2 not so much (I barely played games that gen). So I say, put in lots of PSX fanservice.

I don't think this is any more silly than Smash Bros games. The whole point of Smash Bros games is that they are silly. It's just about a fun game - even Sakurai has said as much.

That's cool. It helps him escape pressure he WILL experience because you're gonna exploit the fact that he can't block while fighting him. However is he an up close fighter or ranged fighter or a mix?

Any of these 3rd party characters in the game and I'm happy:

- Big Daddy (Bioshock)
- John Mashton (RDR)
- One of the main story GTA guys (CJ from San Andreas, Vercetti from Vice City, Niko from GTAIV, Claude from GTAIII)
- Chell (Portal)
- Max Payne
- Snake
- Sonic
- Crash
- Cloud
- Shepard
- Batman
- Ezio
- Isaac
- Guybrush (MI)
- Any RE character
-
Slime (DQ)
-
Marcus Fenix

Any of these 1st party ones
- Nathan Drake
- Either Elena, Chloe, or Sully, having them all in there would be too much Uncharted
- Gabe Logan
- Maiden in Black
- Jak and Daxter
- Ratchet and Clank
- Chimera
- Cole (Infamous)
- Joel (The Last of Us)

Any of these stages from 1st and 3rd party
- Wipeout
- Shadow of the Colossus
- Sonic
- Monkey Island
- Stage from a sandbox game or two
- Stage from Boletaria
- Resident Evil

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Just one or two from each block is good enough for me.

I sure hope it's evil Cole, for fire powers and sith lightning.

You know what would be cool?

Square: Good attacks.
Triangle: Evil attacks.

The game keeps track of which you've used more, and Cole's appearance changes to show this. Then your special attacks on O have different properties based on your alignment. When good, grenades will stick to opponents; when evil, they'll split into three.

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
I expected some salt but damn, people love Smash Bros and have been asking for a Sony clone since the PS2 era. The game looks...decent. I agree that graphically it could use a little boost, which hopefully it will get. Gameplay wise they are damned if they do, damned if they dont. They make it just like Smash then they are shameless ripoffs, they change it up and people will bitch that it should have been more like Smash because the formula has already been perfected.

Disagreed. This is best as a celebration of all their franchises, not just the ones the kids/families play. Even Smash has Metroid and MGS was a guest. I would call either of those 2 kid-friendly (my little brother was afraid of the Metroid stage with Kraid in Melee for a while).
