so if a GTA character made it as one of the 3rd party characters who would everyone want?

For me.
More recognisable and classic than Tommy imo.

Yeah, that guy had some classic one-liners. Cool personality as well.

Sony should redeem themselves for the Demon's Souls fiasco by making sure the game is represented, be it a level (Boletaria, Valley of Defilement, Stonefang tunnels, etc) or a character (iMaiden in Black, Ostrava, Patches, etc).

It's weird and different for sure. But so was the Smash Bros. percentage/stage knock-out system back in 1999. I don't think anyone really knew how that was gonna work from a competitive standpoint before we really played it for a bit, but it turned out to actually work quite well.

I'm not gonna claim to know whether this system will work out or not, but I'm very interested to see it in play for a bit. I can see how it could work, and I could see how it could be a total failure. I think a lot of it comes down to how they balance the super moves and meter gain.

I will say, these guys have been working on it for over two years, and it sounds like they are considering the competitive aspect of it. They've probably spent plenty of time considering the exact same potential issues people keep bringing up. They've probably also play-tested the game enough to be pretty confident in the system. Of course, as we all know, things within a play-testing environment are very different from things after release, so who knows if it'll hold up once it gets out to the public. But I'm sure they didn't just slap that system in there with no consideration for how it'll affect the actual fighting system.

True true. I forgot they've been developing it for awhile now and they're going with what they felt was good/right. I meant it looks fun and after reading more about how the supers work:

Level 1 - can only kill one
Level 2 - maybe 2
Level 3 - possibly all others

I felt a bit relieved. They also mentioned how you can be knocked off the stage in Sandover Village and you can swim back to the stage. Everyone in the media who has played it keeps raving about how fun and solid it is so I'm definitely not getting too worried - it looks fantastic.

I just can't wait to play it myself and see how the super meter plays out. My main gripe is that I hate time limits in any game, like REALLY hate time limits, so I'd much rather have a health/lives system. Maybe there will be another mode with that? They have to include a survival mode of some sort.

Another thing to remember is that you can knock out AP from players and add it to your own special bar, so I guess you can compare the main mode to Smash Bros. coin mode (or whatever it was called), except you can only kill people with a smash ball - if that makes sense. There has to be a true survival mode of some sort so we'll just have to wait and see how that mode plays out.

Looks fun and I'm sure I'll pick it up, but the little changes they've made from the Smash Bros formula really make me think I won't like it nearly as much as Smash. I don't really like the killing system (might change when I play it) and the glow is annoying. Trying to ring people out in Smash is where most of the fun comes from IMO.

This is the same genre. You speak as if this is a Smash Bros game/sequel o_o

Well it's obviously influenced by Smash, so I was just remarking the changes they've made to the way kills work compared to Smash doesn't seem as fun. I could be wrong though. I'll see when I play it.

What about Alundra?

The whole game ripped off Zelda: lttp, albeit it's superieur in every way. And the main character "Alundra" is loosly (harhar) inspired by Link as it is. Just saying.

It's not so much that the level 1 can only kill 1, it just has much shorter range. I've seen videos where Kratos's level 1 killed all three opponents in one swipe.

The way I see it, you want to get those kills with the lowest level possible, because it means you can get it sooner. Even if you only get 1 kill for every level 1, that rate is still just as good as 3 kills for a level 3; if you're able to get more than 1 kill on the level 1, then you're doing better than if you'd saved up for that level 3. But attacking with a lower level means you might miss and waste that meter, so it's a bit of a risk/reward. There have been several impressions where people pointed out that, while Parappa's level 3 kills everyone on screen, they did much better by making use of well-placed level 1 and 2 supers than trying to save up for a level 3.

I just can't wait to play it myself and see how the super meter plays out. They've said that there's definitely a stock mode.

Absolutely - always loved Alundra. Still got my day one original copy sitting proudly on the shelf. Can't see him being included in the roster because he's just a little too obscure, but maybe he'll show up in a sequel down the line.

These guys really really like the game.

Glad to help,I like how all of them are so different.

Makes me really excited to see the other characters.

I was talking with someone today about this. What I like about IGN is that they have PS3 team, xbox team, Nintendo team. PS3 team guys clearly game on PS3 and like PS. As it should be.
While on most other sites 95% if the guys are xbox guys, and don't have connection with PS history. For example I was listening to IWalls today on GT. It was predictable I knew they were going to dismiss it, second guess it, mock it. In all honesty they do that with all Sony exclusives (did same crap with GOWA last week).
Every big site should hire a couple of guys that game on PS3 and care about PS like IGN PS3 guys do. It's really sad how GT is atm. Geoff is the only nice guy over there, but then he kinda doesn't work for GT

So im on my phone and cant check, but 1 question about the supers. Ok, if you use a level 1, does it drain your bar completely or at all? Like, if you use it, does it continue to level 2, or do you have to build it back up from 0?

This game is even more shameless than I imagined it! however, it sounds like they're conscious of what made brawl not-so-fun (the controls) and can improve on it, so that's good.

It has way more moves for each character that's for sure lol. That was my problem with Smash

They do a really great breakdown. Their excitement is so infectious plus Gregs favorite SSB game is mine as well awwww yeah.
I didn't know that Kratos moveset from GOW translates into the game as well. That is bad ass.

This reminds me of when Forza came out and GT fans were calling it a clone of GT4, seriously people, can't someone make a game in the same Genre without being called a clone of the most popular game in that genre.

Hmm, I remember when Forza 1 came out, and as a GT3 or was it 2 at the time, fan I had no problem with it (I didn't own a xbox, and was all the way PS2). I was kinda jealous iirc that they had a interesting looking manager type career mode where damage carried over to other races unless they pay for repairs (I think that was the forza game). The only time I frowned at Forza was when that Forza guy talked about slapping around Yama. Yamauchi is a cool dude, even took a picture with him, but he felt the need to try to insult him and his game to prop up his own game and create buzz. Not cool.

Reminds me of Saints Row as well. GTA fans we're merciless. But look how both franchises are widely accepted now.

I was GTA all the way, but didn't have access to SR1 (xbox 360), and GTA4 dropped the fun ball for me and SR2 and 3 were there to steal my heart. Good thing there are options in buying game types you like.
