If we do get an ED sequel, it's high time we find out what that yellow ancient is all about. It's a shame that an IP which purportedly set out to develop an evolving mythos got shut down by poor sales.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
That event is just a recap of information from E3, but for the Japanese audience.

I realize that. I think it is conceivable it falls through the cracks at E3 but makes an appearance at the Japanese event.

I wouldn't worry too much about Ninty this E3. They've got pretty much everything on their side.

- All eyes are on them, since they are releasing a brand new console. Judging by GAF and other and forums, there will be no shortage of hype.

- They will, without a doubt, overshadow Sony and Microsoft's conferences. (I do believe we'll see another Wii Stampede.)

- Their showing of first and third party games should be shown in better resolution and quality than what is currently available for console. This will attract a larger audience for their conference.

- They have Reggie, Iwata, and Miyamoto. Three Bad-asses in one room.

The only way I see them messing up, is again, focusing too much on the controller, and not bringing up enough third party support and online.

Also, I have one more question: to anyone who has happened to actually see or use the console hands on, did you happen to see the first three letters of the unit's model number? Like Wii had REV, DS had NTR, GBA SP had AGS, GCN had DOL... The reason I ask this is because that might give us an idea into the system's project name (IIRC, Project Cafe was never officially confirmed by Nintendo, was it?)

Anyone?

What if the 3DS was able to take Street Passes for both itself and the Wii U?

It could work as an alternative for people who have a 3DS and don't want to use the new device. (Because that would make too much stuff to bring along with you.)

Project Cafe was likely the system's codename. It did appear on that Silicon Knights guy's resume.

All right then. Thank you.
I didn't know if the Cafe thing was just a rumor (the images of the system that were attached with that rumor turned out to be incorrect in the end after all).

Looking forward to my PCF-002 Wii U controller then.

My source is my ass!
No reason not to do both. While Nintendo putting its games on smartphones is a dumb idea, there's no reason it shouldn't put supplemental stuff like the eShop and this streetpass thing on phones.

Oh certainly, i was saying that not everyone possess a smartphone, and even a part that got one may want this Wii-U streetpass separated from their phone, so Nintendo must have a cheap device to sell for this audience.

And i don't see the Wii U box without this object pack-in. Basically (if all this is real), the StreetPass function of the Wii U will depend on:

1) If you have a 3DS
2) If you have a smartphone supporting the application
3) If you have bought the pocket NFC if it's sold independently

Considering a lot of Wii U buyers won't have 1 nor 2, it will be weird to have an important social feature of your home console relying on a peripheral that you have to acquire separately. And the article say "accompany", so i think it's safe to assume IF this device exists, that it will be included in the Wii U package.

But again, grain of salt for this rumor. I've heard of a streetpass feature for Wii U, but not through another peripheral, my sources never told me of that (maybe they aren't aware of this and it was kept hidden by Nintendo but i doubt it if they want third-parties studio to implement this function in time for their projects), so i assumed it was just a cross-platform-feature with the 3DS.

you guys listen to weekend confirmed?

I am listening to this week's now dunno why, I wish we had a podcast that had some good WiiU facts to listen to

I normally do yeah but haven't listened to this week's one. What did they say?

I have to admit the more I listen to them talk about Nintendo stuff the more I go off them. When Billy B is there it's fine as he's a member of the Nintendo Defense Force but otherwise it's generally just Nintendo bashing.

Speaking of code names, did we ever find out what the full code name for the 3DS (CTR) was? Last I heard people were saying that it might be Century, but I don't buy that...

Nintendo will be providing digital downloads of retail games from day one on the Wii U (and starting in August on the 3DS).
Nintendo will allow you to buy digital games at retailers or on the eShop.
Leaked footage of Rayman Legends for the Wii U.
Controller could be able to go beyond one room (but not by a whole lot).

Spot-on! Show the games, put the spotlight on the games, and there's little that can go wrong.

And I hope you're right about the stampedes. I loved that element of E3 '06, and remember gleefully cackling in my chair when I first realized what was going-on!

All I remember was CAT-DEV.

EDIT: I gotta get a little faster.

CAT? Cafe T? Wonder what the T is for...

I was wondering this myself. What would CTR stand for?

Sucks at viral marketing
The rumored device wouldn't use NFC, but the same technology the 3DS uses for StreetPass (which I think is some kind of bluetooth technology, but I have no idea to be honest).
The rumor that this device originated from specifically states that it would use NFC. They clearly don't know the difference in the technologies. It hurts their credibility. An NFC card will never be made because the purpose of NFC in the system is to buy those items and bring them to it... not take your card to the store and scan everything on the shelf.

Well it could make sense that it would use NFC to transfer the data to Wii U.
That would be redundant. There's no need for two forms of communication.

What if the 3DS was able to take Street Passes for both itself and the Wii U?

We already know that this is in the works. SE talked about it when they announced DQX for the WiiU. I can't see Nintendo diminishing the connectivity features between the systems with this device. If they do, it'll be an optional accessory and way overpriced to compensate for the lost cross-marketing.

Nothing gives me chills more than the reveal of Twilight Princess just as people started to leave. That's gaming magic right there.

Since the subject of podcasts has come up, I've wanted to ask for a list of good Nintendo-related podcasts for a while now. Who all is worth listening to on a regular basis?

Hmm. 8-4 play and that's about all I can think of regarding podcasts that actually treat Nintendo with some amount of respect and maturity.

Regarding the Streetpass hardware rumour I really hope it's done as a card that can fit in a wallet. Anything else and I'm unlikely to use it unless it was super tiny and could fit on a keyring without being obtrusive. I also, personally wish (assuming this is the case) that they'd just spend that money on the Wii U core tech and make 3DS' do the Streetpassing for Wii U. The more core tech in there the better IMO.

Monolith Soft didn’t specify the project, but the recruitment page has a few hints. They’re looking for an effect designers who can create map and battle effects. Monolith Soft also needs a motion designer for event and battle scenes. Sounds kind of like a RPG, huh? Another job is for an experienced 2D designer who can draw mecha.

When did the first concept art surface from their (Monolith Soft) Wii U game?

We saw it like in 2011 right?

Well they've been putting out different pieces of concept art for the last few years now. The problem is we don't really know if any of it is related to actual games they are working on. For example the infamous Honne artwork posted above is supposedly related to the game he is working on, but it was never really confirmed. Nor was it confirmed that his game is the Wii U project either. There's another piece of art on their site that depicts some sort of crashed UFO. Both have been used as part of their recruitment process at one time or another as well.

The exact same thing could have been said about last year's conference.

As much as they deny, I think Sony and Microsoft are going to tease next gen in some form. Gotta take some of that heat away from Nintendo.

Wikipedia says NFC has a "theoretical working distance with compact standard antennas: up to 20 cm (practical working distance of about 4 centimetres)." Is that enough for street pass? Maybe it isn't designed to work like the 3DS (passively street passing complete strangers you don't even know are carrying a 3DS). Maybe it's only designed for actively interacting with other people you know are carrying the Wii U "gamer card" (people you meet every day at school, work, lunch, etc.).

20 cm = 7.87 inches (theoretical range)
4 cm = 1.57 inches (practical range)

Yeah, grain of salt & all as i said. Surely this article mixed NFC and bigger range communication technologies (bluetooth, wifi, nifi, whatever). The general idea is here though, devices entering in communication with each other when they are near.

Or maybe it's a NFC "badge" that allow the exchange of data with people you know which dispose of one also.

Ive been thining:

Both 3DS and WiiU games could be something like oracles and seasons, both set in the same universe but totally different games that connect with each other.
