Media Create Sales: Week 17, 2012 (Apr 23 - Apr 29)

I can not fucking believe the sales ORC is getting. I'm a huge RE fan and have no intention of picking it up until it's $10 or less.

FE sales are crazy. It's already eclipsed Kid Icarus' total sales. I wonder how Nintendo feels about that. They marketed the fuck out of that game, I'm sure they expected higher sales.

I'm pretty sure they can't really complain about one of their series making a resurgence.

PSP gets so many awesome games in Japan :lol

As for all that talk about "adding to the trinity", Kid Icarus and Fire Emblem aren't even close. They're doing great, but the trinity is in a whole different ballpark. We're talking games that have sold over a million and still maintain 10k+ weekly sales.

It was just a trend analysis on the fly. Kid Icarus is behaving similarly, for now. That is: people buying the trinity could have started buying Kid Icarus as well. Of course comparing their LTD is a nonsense. And Fire Emblem cannot be related to these 4 games for now, obviously.

And about PSP: it started back in 2004 with porn. It finishes in 2012 with moe games. :lol Everything is the middle is pure awesomeness though.

The fuck? :DD

12k is showing signs of strength people, you read it here first!

There's no denying Vita's sales are terrible regardless of how you look at it, though I would how long the boosts legs will last, whether it will drop a load like last time or remain above 10k for a bit.

Really Sony needs to put a price drop on this thing and coincide that with a big enough release. Whether Sony can do either of those things is the big question.

If the Vita had a UMD drive, Ill bet all those new releases would have pushed more Vita hardware than it sold this week.

Yeah yeah yea... I know.... but still.

Had they such a target from the very beginning? I wonder if they are going to meet it by reasoning or pure coincidence, considering their historic attitude to set the expectation bar outrageously high.

Their first target was 2.5 million. It was reduced to 2 million because they moved the release date of the title from winter 2011 to March 2012.

Sure it will, Japanese sales aren't included in FY estimate.

Capcom can never win xD

I guess RE fans all over the world including Japan just really, really want the games on consoles. Capcom should definitely reconsider any future substantial support on portables if this is the case.

Seems that way. :(

Maybe Nintendo can somehow get Revelations ported to Wii U to make up for not getting RE6.

A man can dream, right?

Capcom is in 7th heaven. We complained, they have listened. Yet, their decision was victorious.

All hail to companies that never listen to their fanbase.

God damnit, people all over the world are making RE:ORC a success. Is there any other group of fans that will buy a game by virtue of name alone, quality not even a factor?

Sonic. (And I'm one of them... ;( )

12K over 8K is an improvement but it hardly justifies some of the reaction it's getting. If it continues to increase in the following weeks then the celebrations can commence.

Any game with Sonic or Mario in its title.

Along with many other franchises.

Interesting.

It seems that if there is a game released for a Vita that even only a small percentage of people want to play, sales increase.

It's almost as if people want games to play on their system.

Vita number means that at least 4000 people bought the Vita just for that game alone. Probably more.

Crazy when you think about it.

ORC sales just confuse me both here and abroad. Don't understand why Binary Domain doesn't outsell this, it does every thing ORC does (excluding co-op) better.

Welcome to the world of the mainstream entertainment industry. Quality means little compared against branding and marketing.

I'm not a Japanese expert, but didn't Golden Week begin on Sunday (4/29)? Could this partially explain the higher than normal sales of software/hardware? Should we expect an even larger increase for the next reporting period given 6 of the 7 days will be during the remainder of Golden Week?

I think most people know this.

I'd really like to know what kind of sales Capcom expected when they greenlit the development of Revelations and what kind of budget the game had. One can try to estimate the latter, but the former will probably stay a secret forever.

It's one of these games where I don't really have a clue whether or not the sales are in-line with the expectations or below.

I also wonder whether or not we may see a XBLA/PSN release down the road. I can't imagine a Vita port for some reason, but a digital release on the consoles might be a possibility... or not, depending on whether or not Nintendo moneyhatted the development and if so to what degree.

Good RE:ORC sales are a lose-lose situation.
1. It gives Capcom the idea that a cheap, horrible, outsourced RE shooter sells and
2. will likely lead to reduced RE6 sales, which could give Capcom the impression that they should put even less horror and more bullets in their RE games

The ORC sales do make me wonder whether Capcom would be inclined to approve the long awaited RE2make.

Can't really understand the "fuck ORC sold so well"-thing in every thread.
Yes, in the first week it sold well in all regions (wouldn't say super good, but it wasn't bad of course), but after that it really dropped everywhere.
The first week is most of the time good for a big IP like RE, but if the game sucks, it'll drop fast.
I'm pretty sure this will also happen here. It'll get a massive drop next week.

People need to get it out of their head that RE:R was supposed to compete with ORC. Capcom made it very clear that they were expecting ORC to sell about 3x as much as RE:R worldwide. So all the numbers that we've seen have been pretty much exactly what was expected from the get-go.

I bet even Capcom is surprised.
If anything, they might be surprised on the downside. They certainly won't be surprised on the upside.

Even if it does, it has already outsold Revelation's lifetime sales in just the first week. I don't think anyone really expected it here. Especially for Japan.
Capcom certainly expected it. RE:ORC has FY expectations of 2.5M, which were then reduced to 2M once the Japanese release was pushed out of the fiscal year. They even came out and clarified that the drop in expectations was due to Japan no longer being included - so it's pretty easy to figure out that Capcom expected 500k for Japan.

Given that they never even gave a worldwide projection for RE:R, it's safe to assume that their worldwide expectations were below a million, probably even below 800k, since they've given projections at the 800k level before. So there's no way they expected RE:R to be anywhere close to 500k in Japan when they were expecting less than a million worldwide.

I'd really like to know what kind of sales Capcom expected when they greenlit the development of Revelations and what kind of budget the game had. One can try to estimate the latter, but the former will probably stay a secret forever.

There's no way to know what they expected when they greenlit development, but we do know that they were expecting less than a million worldwide about a year before release, since the game didn't show up on their projections for the upcoming fiscal year when they reported their FY results for March 2011.

Here's another observation: Where did Code of Princess go?
Thought that would have stuck around a bit longer.

Huge amount of new software and the game didn't really sell a huge amount, even with a not too bad drop it would probably still be too low to chart in the top 20.

I believe the (appropriate) sadness about it is because those first week/month(NPD) sells are more than many superior games will see their entire life.

The game has got to be close 1 million, if not over, in the entire world at this point. Which is more than many many games do ever.

Good week for HW although that is somewhat expected moving into Golden Week. Fire Emblem has a good second week, Kid Icarus showing some legs and Monster Hunter shows no signs of slowing down.

Ciel Nosurge has a good first week and might or might not have boosted Vita sales a little bit although that could also be explained by the upcoming Holidays. Either way it's clear that Vita just needs more games.

I wonder if Capcom could pull something off with RE like Nintendo does with Mario.

Make both kinds of games. The survivor horror and the more popular action variety. Similar to how nintendo makes both 3D and 2D mario games.

The Lascar, good timing. I had a question for you: at NintendojoFR I saw you summarized lot of data regarding Nintendo. I wonder if you got data on the number of teams at Nintendo and the number of people for each team.

The reason is that Nintendo grew almost by 2000 people since 2005 and I would be interested to know where they are employed within the company.

Thanks in advance.
