Diablo 3 Beta [Beta withdrawal underway!]

And now, I will go into total media blackout mode for the last week. I do not care if Inferno stats, endbosses, spoilers come out. I want to encounter it in the game.

Also, will anyone else plan on staying away from the full item database at least until he/she reaches Hell/Inferno? The mystery of not knowing what CAN drop is so amazing, imho...

Well even the databases aren't much help as the affixes and stats on items are all random to at least some extent.

But I probably won't be looking too much up anyway.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

* We didn’t put the beta out there to test game difficulty, we put the beta out to test our hardware.

* I can honestly say, that the end-game of Diablo III is way more challenging than Diablo II; way more.

* When you get into Inferno for the first time, if you haven’t spent time in Hell, just farming for gear, you will get crushed.

* We have encounters in the Inferno mode, where we will die a dozen times trying to take a rare down.

* The level of difficulty on Inferno is so high that a lot of people on the dev team can’t test it very effectively. So we’ve actually had to use a specialty group within. We formed a specific strike-team, just for end-game. And their goal was to tell us that this was a challenging and compelling experience.

Interesting that South East Asia was lumped into the Americas region. I hope they'll accommodate the servers so we don't have too high pings (which seems to be OK judging from the beta).

Also means I'll get to play with GAF people so should be pretty good :D

I definitely won't be happy with the ping I had in the beta. It was really noticeable with skills that generate projectiles.

It was like ping 150 ish, Ping 150 in a singleplayer experience? GTFO

I know that for me, I'll be reading every scrap of info I can find until release day, at which point I'm blocking out the world for a couple days. :)

I called my friend and asked him if he had read about the Inferno stats... I got shocked when he told me that he had ditched his girlfriend (literally broke up with her because of D3) and took a two week vacation from his job.

Holy crap.

Shit's getting real! I'm supposed to go with my wife to my mother-in-law's retirement party on the 15th. She sprung this news on me just a few days ago. I might just flat out refuse to go. I'm still on the fence. I love my wife and her mom, but damn I really just want to stay home and play. We will see...

Now that's commitment. Misguided, but committed.

I have a real vacation to Puerto Rico planned for the week following the 15th...never been so lukewarm about heading to a resort.

Keep in mind that D3 on launch day may turn out to be a harsh mistress.

Heard that line before about difficulty. Typically speaking, I just assume they're actually terrible at playing the game. Difficulty is like the one thing that never gets met by any game ever :(

Within the first few weeks, people will by crying and moaning to Blizzard and they will nerf it. Happened all the time in WoW and the rest of their games, so Diablo 3 won't be any different.

Except that this time, it wont happen.
Why? Because WoW has new raid content introduced every few months. With Diablo 3, the next year's endgame IS Inferno.

They will not nerf it. Not a bit.

They can't test it with five million people until launch, and when they launch it's guaranteed at least one of those five million people will be way better than any of the testers. Not really anyone's fault, just logistics and probability.

I seriously hope they don't but you know what gamers can be like.

Oh of course. But it's still why I don't put much stock into developer comments on difficulty. So, I just assume that they're terrible at it to lowball my own expectations.

I think it's more like in order to survive in act 1 inferno difficulty you need to have farmed a high-end hell difficulty drops, and obviously the developers don't have enough time to do that (notice how he specifically said dev team). The testers are probably capable of getting through it with enough time spent farming or by using debug cheats to equip themselves with inferno-level gear. And they would try not to use cheats since that wouldn't test the drop rates/farming process.

Thinking of doing a Diablo II replay. Is it possible to play local multiplayer without the need for Battenet over the same wireless network between 2 computers.

Well, yeah, that whining happens in just about every game. It honestly seems like it will be a game of gear checks to highly skilled players, though.

No LAN party, only bnet. You can make private games in there.

SC2 did not have serious server issues, so I don't expect D3 to.

Even though enrage timers are basically a gear check, I think this sounds really cool.

Enrage timers are cheese-checks. A lot of Diablo bosses can be slowly whittled away by cheesy tactics that exploit stupid pathing and high player speed. Mephisto is the best example in D2. People would attack him from across the pit of blood with ranged attacks if they couldn't take him head on. Took forever, but it worked.

Yeah, there's been topics on the battle.net forums already about how they should make Inferno more 'accessible' so everyone can see it. It's worrying, but hopefully they stick to their guns.

Figured I'd finally add my info to region and class. I had a really, really hard time deciding which class to start as. Once I get through normal I'm most likely going to make a WD or Monk and go through it again.

Is the install for this like WOW where I can put it on an external drive and just run it off that on any PC? Or does it actually have to be installed on each machine?

Really hoping this will hold true. I mean they made Inferno for the hardcore audience, why would they tune it down just to appeal to more people? But still, seeing some "balance changes" Blizzard's done in WoW to the places/events that were meant for hardcore audience I wouldn't be too surprised if they at some point watered it down. That would suck hard, hope they have some balls and stick with the plan to make it a bitch to get through and to actually keep that feeling of great achievement reserved only for the most dedicated Inferno players.

Blizzard's done many incredibly dumb decisions lately, but they won't nerf inferno. This, I'm positive of.
