Soul Sacrifice (Vita x Inafune) - Conference impressions and videos added to OP

So, from what I'm gathering, you collect/use spells instead of weapons? That's a bit of a letdown because I was really hoping to have weapons work in tandem to magic. I'm still really excited for this game considering the talent behind it and how great it looks - just waiting for a western release date announcement.

Yes and no. Clearly in the gameplay video there are summons that are called upon for physical attacks. Some of which resemble a sword, another that is a giant fist. Believe it has already been stated that armor can be upgraded and changed as well, so it is likely that your character may have a base weapon for basic attacks and summons/magic/sacrifices are used in order to inflict more damage but at a cost of something else.

The hit detection on enemies looks a little iffy. And you couldn't see anything in front of you when he turned into a huge boulder.

Other than that, this game sounds like a reason to get a Vita. It looks awesome, I love the art, and the gameplay reminds me of Folklore and the magic stuff from Nier.

This is some dark shit right here.

The art design is so fresh and original, how is that even possible these days?

Looks like a winner, major hyped.

The clever part about basing the loot on spells is that it's possible to have a highly experienced player's character toned down by limiting the sacrificial fuel in a quest.

I'm not particularly thrilled with how MH lets HR people join in LR quests and mow down monsters like they're nothing, but the game universe doesn't have any compelling, game-universe reasons for disallowing it (other than by having very few quests that do have pre-generated equipment sets or other equipment restrictions).

My god, this looks amazing. It's like two of my favourite game series (monster hunter and Demon's/dark souls) combined.

Edit:
Derp!
Avatarized, for those that want it.

Took this one if you don't mind.

I'd much rather this have weapons and be an ARPG. Still, the premise is good. I'll be playing this single player. No-one else I know will buy this.

What a weird article. Why would it be shortened to So Suck?

The natural line of abbreviation for Japanese people is ソサク (sosaku) which sounds like "so suck." That's just the way Japanese people abbreviate things (like Pokemon). Inafune wants them to make it ソルサク (sorusaku) instead.

It looks so cool. Of course it's coming over, it's even written in one of the artworks (plus Sony is publishing).

Why would that mean anything?

The PSP had probably a dozen games that SCEA passed over with 3rd parties picking up, and several that no one picked up (like the sequel to Kingdom of Paradise, which still pisses me off. It wasn't a great game, but I want closure! Or Rezel Cross).

Or heck, the PSP version of White Knight Chronicles was published by SCEE in Europe, but SCEA couldn't bother to even do a digital release, even though it was already in English

Kind of sucks sometimes, when new games get announced. I find that for some reason it makes my want to play the games I have drop abit. Really hope we get new footage at E3(although i'm guessing TGS), seems like alot of really cool ideas going on in this, i'd like to hear more about the character progession.

OMG, I haven't thought about that game in so long. I remember being so excited to buy it, and then...

The art for the monster in the game is incredible.xI don't know, if this is just the stuff that we are seeing for the reveal I can't wait to see whats further in.

I'm also really curious what this image:

represents, I'm curious if maybe this is an enemy, or a player character. If it's the player, it makes it seem like maybe you could go human torch mode maybe a special sacrifice. I'm also glad that we got to see that the game was being shown on the big screen, will make watching the Vita segment for Sony's conference much easier...as long as they don't get up there and drop it.

Well I'm pretty sure that's what happens at the end of the multiplayer video, when they sacrifice one of the players!

I just hope this is a new start for SCEJ third party projects, they needed to leave the horrible studios they usually work with and waste money on ( Racjin, Eighting,Matrix,Awful-5..ect ) and look for new ones.

The Vita needs more games. Unless its some super niche anime Japanese game, SCEA is in no position to pass up on releasing games.

It would be cool if after a MP boss battle players had to fight themselves if they couldn't reach a consensus on sacrificing the boss or not.

I agree, but I'm just saying given SCEA's history with the PSP, I wouldn't count on anything. I would not be surprised if they passed on localizing/publishing it themselves, and let Xseed do it.

SCEA is in no position to block localizations for the Vita. The Vita needs every game it can get. They don't have the luxury to be picky given Vita's dire situation.

Now this is what I like to see. Handheld games made and tailored to their platforms!

About time. Now if this can be the start of something good (aka a new trend), I would be pleased.

Man, I'm not a squeamish person but this part is just nasty.

wonderful, give the "too much gore" crowed more to latch onto. I am curious how this will look in game though, minus the fountian of blood pouring out of the big beast in the video, it really did not look that gorey to me.

I love the gore, personally.

I do aswell honestly, but there are also people brushing the game off simply because of the seemingly more extreme concept art then what is actually in the game. I think the game looks great so far personally, and I love Inafune so I have faith this is going to be pretty damn good.
