I was so hyped for DOOM 3 after whats his face said that he was aiming to make it Resident Evil 2 in the DOOM universe.

Then I played DOOM3 and meh.

I still remember the pre-release hype for this game. The screenshots blew me the fuck away in whatever magazine it first appeared in.

And I remember an old interview, where someone from Id said you could use the darkness to your advantage, and hide from the enemy. I wonder why that was cut out. Perhaps because it wouldn't have suited the game?

This is a remastered game? Looks terrible. I can already tell there are PS2 quality textures and assets from that video.

I thought it was just a trailer showing us the original game and telling us what would be coming. I had no idea that was new gameplay.

Hard to tell the difference as I'm midway through playing D3 with some sikkmod options.

However I was hoping they would have upped the polygon count on NPCs and monsters (and player hands).

That's the only thing holding it back from looking amazing as it is.

Absolutely awesome! One of my all-time favorite games. Played it back in the day on Radeon 9700 Pro, and I'm interested to see how it'll look on a PS3 and a bigger screen. I only fear that Bethesda will find a way to fuck up the PS3 version.
Are id themselves working on the port? I'm getting this on PS3 also and that would be a fear of mine. But I don't think they could mess this up. At least I hope not. Rage turned out pretty well I think. Well, besides the pop in. But the game ran great from the demo I played of Rage.

Hopefully, and reading the OP again definitely makes it seem so.
“DOOM 3 was enthusiastically embraced by gamers worldwide at its release,” said John Carmack, Technical Director at id Software. “Today, the full experience has been enhanced and extended to be better than ever, and is delivered across all the platforms with a silky smooth frame rate and highly responsive controls. New support for 3D TVs, monitors, and head mounted displays also allows players to experience the game with more depth than ever before. We think shooter fans everywhere will love it.”

Nice, I will pick this up for the 3D support alone.

Doom 3 was and still is an amazing game.

Doesn't appear to look much different. Definitely not on par with Sikkmod. :(

Sikkmod, aside from its graphics additions, also allows you to tweak a wide variety of game variables that can completely transform the way it plays. You can adjust nearly everything that matters.

Player/Enemy health and speed, damage variables, add random monsters, change health system, remove reloading, and all sorts of other things. You can make the game play much more like Doom 1 and 2 with many more on screen enemies and a much faster pace if you desire. It's pretty damn awesome.

I just installed the sikkmod + Wulfen texture pack, also got it running in 1920x1200 16:10, I felt like hugging my PC afterwards, looks amazing, the above mod will blow the new release out of the water.

Wulfen Texture Pack - http://www.gamefront.com/files/20761705/wulfen_texture_pack_1.0.rar

Instructions,

http://printscreenpictures.wordpress.com/2012/03/02/doom-3-mod-tutorial/

If you install the above mod then I assuming you'll want WS resolutions also,

Go into the sikkmod folder and edit the doomconfig file (open with notepad)

seta r_mode -1
seta r_aspectRatio 1 (0 = 4:3, 1 = 16:9, 2 = 16:10)
seta r_customHeight 1920 (Your screen height)
seta r_customWidth 1200 (Your screen width)

I also did the same to the config file in the base folder.

Also take note of this in the sikkmod readme,

"The mod can be loaded in two ways.

1) is to load it through the "Mods" main menu item.
2) is to use a custom shortcut to load it directly. You do this by creating a new
shortcut for your "Doom3.exe". Right-click on it and select "Properties". Click
on the "Shortcut" tab and in the "Target:" field put this:

+set fs_game sikkmod

after "...\Doom3.exe"

Example: "C:\Games\Doom 3\Doom3.exe" +set fs_game sikkmod"

Don't forget if you have this in steam you can add the above by right clicking on the game in your steam library, select 'Properties' and then 'Select Launch Options', cut and past the bold text above into that box.

Once all this is up and running and the mod is loaded you'll have a sikkmod options button on the main menu, you can go in there and turn on a lot of nice new effects, although soft shadows seemed to kill my system a little, everything else was fine though.

I've read people had trouble getting sikmod and those textures to work togeather but I'll follow what you wrote and give it a try tonight.

Are they doing anything to Doom & Doom 2? I'm sure the old tech prevents it but it doesn't stop me from wanting Doom in 16:9.

Dammit, I am missing one of my Doom III discs. Looks like I need to get the Steam version...

Wait, so that mod is a total crapshoot for ATI cards? I'm not getting a new card anytime soon so I guess I'll be getting the BFG version of the game.

Ahh another purchase to add to my many rebuys of the Doom franchise.

I loved Doom 3. Though it is the only game I have ever taken time off to play, so I am sure my fanboy love for ID colored that opinion.

Glad to hear about this, may even triple dip, but a question.

Wasn't there a big rumor before the ps3 released that Id was considering a souped up port of doom 3 to make up for it being Xbox 1 exclusive. Please tell me I'm not imagining it?

This is an odd package, but a really cool one for those of us who came up in the 90's and have our gaming roots with games like Doom. I was born in '89 and not allowed to have console games. Fortuneately, my parents weren't smart enough to realize that PC's played games too, and all I did in the mid to late 90's was play Doom and Warcraft II.

Still, I feel like the whole package could have been better handled. What if they'd converted the Doom 3 assets to idTech 5? What if they rebuilt the original Doom and Doom II levels using those assets in the same engine? Would have been way cooler. I'd pay top dollar for that sort of remake. All of the same enemies and weapons are already there in Doom 3, so all they'd have to do is convert the assets they already had to the new engine that they've already built, and then remake the old maps. Same layouts and secrets and everything, just new GRAFIKS. I'm not saying that this is a small order by any means, but a great deal of the design and technical work is already done. It's basically just paying a few coders to convert assets and a few level builders to remake already-done maps.

Man that'd be so fucking cool.

Doom 3 with UE4 ! Do it Crytek.

Even better: their doing Doom 4 with their latest engine. The only problem with id is that they take so damn long to release a game, they may not have the most impressive engine or product by time of release...

idTech 5 uses pre-baked lighting, and since the entire "stylized" look of Doom 3 depends on a unified real-time lighting model, it wouldn't work out well. I also don't consider idTech 5 to be that great an engine. It's interesting from an academic point of view, but one of its key features, megatextures, turned out out to be impractical when used in an actual game.

I wonder if this remastered Doom3 will have splitscreen co-op for the console versions, if not, i guess i won't be getting this even from sale.

Also, when are we going to get Quake and QuakeII for consoles?

Quake II came bundled with Quake IV, at least on 360.

XBLA Quake and Quake II releases, please. Don't care a bit about Quake IV. EDIT i read about Quake 2 being bundled with Quake 4 just a day ago, i wonder why it was never released on XBLA even though it clearly can be played on 360.
Hmm, gotta go re-download Doom for Xbox and play it a bit.

tech5 doesn't have to use prebaked lighting. That's a decision they made with Rage because their goal was 60 fps and there simply wasn't enough juice to have a true dynamic light/shadow model along with everything else and still hit 60.

I wonder if Doom and Doom 2 will have trophies/achievements? I hope so.
I'd imagine, if they're ports of the XBLA versions, that they would, although to be frank it's not like it ever NEEDED them...

Then again, the Doom 2 achievements were a giant love letter to the Doom comic, so there's that, I guess.

I could never get Doom 3 to work right on my PC so I'm interested in this if they've fixed it's technical problems, it pissed me off so much. When I changed the resolution to the highest or changed the AA it would never save. I tried everything, changing the notepad config file bs, tried using in-game console command thing, tried some utilities online that fixed things and so on, tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode. None of it worked, and when Rage came out with a bunch of PC problems I was not surpirsed at all.

For all the praise ID and Carmack gets for being PC-god's their games sure do have massive technical problems. And this is coming from someone who's PC has had NO problems with Fallout 3, New Vegas, Oblivion etc. all of those games worked as they should for me even with mods. I don't understand it. Why does the game have such issues saving simple things like resolution and AA settings, this should be absolute basic stuff.

Am I the only one who enjoyed switching between flashlight and gun. It made the game feel more survival horror than FPS:)
