Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
So looking at the Launch Lineup what is Nintendo hoping is pulling people in? Name only? NintendoLand? It's not like they have a Wii-Sports that perfectly demonstrates the advantages of the system. Man they screwed up so bad this conference. I honestly can't believe someone looked at their presser and thought "Yeah this is great!"

I disagree man. Why are people opting for a $300 system over the 3DS sequel on a system they already have?

5-player family coop.

Pikmin 3 still looked great gameplay wise, but so much for those "sub-Claymation model quality" fantasies a few had.

Is that ground texture even worse than the GameCube, or is it my nostalgia-addled brain playing tricks with me? Although the GameCube had gorgeous textures, that was a long time ago, and even if this is a quick wii port-up, it should still outclass the previous games technically

Btw, any hd iPad friendly streams up yet? Only just got back home and gamespot isn't up yet

edit: wow, just from this page I can tell I might not enjoy the presentation. Although Nintendo hardly ever have tons at a launch. But what are their teams doing? No wii games was ok because we figured they must be working on wiiU stuff. Seems not

The E3 Nintendo site (that they kept plugging every 10 minutes during the damn conference) is still updating with games. There are Epic Mickey 3DS screens I didn't see before and stuff.

He posted some "REDEMPTION" post (2 u-pads, which who didn't see coming) and then went on meltdown-control for awhile before giving up I guess.

What say you now? All the nintendo fanboys gave such a hard time in the WUST thread about how nintendo needed third party support, UE4, and called me pessimistic and bitter about nintendo in general.

God. TheGreatMightPoo is probably hanging himself at the moment...

Nintendo's conference is a kick in the face of gaming. Not only was everything they showed rehashes of games we already have played, it also looked like shit in the graphics department... I didn't see any reason to buy that gimmick console.

You pretty much described Microsoft's conference, too. Except, y'know, Nintendo didn't get most of its news being about exclusive DLC like MS did.

This picture is sad. It's like Nintendo doesn't know what even a normal map is. How long will it take before they figure out something more than textures on polygons?

Peter Moore just basically confirmed on Spike no EA Sports for launch, but they are working on Wii U games.

Just inexcusable for Nintendo really- even Wii had Madden as a launch game.

To me, this just screams that Nintendo didn't do a good enough job of either:

A) Getting the dev kits in the hands of developers as soon as they should have

or

B) Telling third parties what to really expect with the system itself

Maybe Nintendo's plan to avoid the 3DS launch situation was not to have a ton of games, but just outright admit they've got sweet fuck all instead of pretending otherwise.

A refreshingly honest approach for a change.

The entire thing is just mind-boggling. They had all the cards in their hands. They could've just shown off three good, new announcements and been declared the indisputable winners of E3. I'm sure they have them! I'm sure their studios are working on Wii U games, and they're not all like Nintendoland and Wii Fit U!

Add me to the list of people positively baffled.

Almost all of the problems with this conference could have been cleared up with a minimal amount of effort, without revealing most or all of their cards.

Right. Nintendo fucked something up, especially with EA. They went from EA on stage to Mass Effect 3 and no Madden.

Mario in the WII/DS Gen

2 original 3d Platformers.

2 original 2d platformers.

WiiU/ 3DS Gen

1 original 3D platformer

2 original 2D platformers

Mainline Mario games are actually pretty rare and certainly not oversaturated.

Comparing that to the yearly Call of Duty reskins is disingenuous at best.

Ditto to Zelda or pretty much any big nintendo franchise.

More "New" Mario Brothers games over and over has the same effect on CoD every year...it does nothing for me as a gamer.

Zelda is one of their main games that does not get shoehorned into way too many titles like Mario currently is. Seriously Nintendo, get some new IP's out there!

I am a fan of Nintendo and Sony. I generally dislike MS. That said, both Nintendo and Sony botched their opportunities this E3. I'll go so far as to say that they have each foreshadowed significant reasons to be concerned for both of them. And that's remarkable considering MS basically sat on its ass and played with its thumbs for an hour.

that being said, apart from 2006, nintendo and other companies really didn't have a show stopping e3 appearance. glimpses of that magic was at the beginning with pikmins running and following shigeru, but that was it. Sony conference had nothing and the only thing revealing for MS presser was entertainment content. The games just isn't there anymore because the internet have gotten to this point where you just can't avoid leaks and these companies says fuck it. I mean, Look at the music and movie industries.

Just about everything at the pressers was leaked before the show. Mass effect 3, even being a port, would've gotten a lot more tension if it wasn't leaked earlier. That e3 as you know it where games getting revealed and megatons dropping is dead.

The only thing that keeps watchdogs appealing to us is that no one knew about it. If information were revealed by leaks a day before, the impact wouldn't be there and it wouldn't be getting game of the galaxy by most gaffers. I missed those days where the final fantasy 13 betrayaltons would nuke gaf to oblivion, and when a true megaton like smash bros would appear out of the fucking blue....those days are over. We mostly know 99 percent of games coming out before they are even considered to be leaked. :(

man Skiesofwonder, if you're reading this, you were right... I definitely had my world ROCKED by the innovationz on display

And Pikmin 3 looks sort of like a Wii game that was upscaled and with a few 'special' effects added on like more DOF and shit. Way disappointed with that visually. Still looks fun, though

Except: SHAKE WIIMOTE TO CHARGE, *groan*

To be fair, they don't really need third party support to succeed. The Wii showed us that.

We still have no clue on whether they'll "need" UE4, either.

You do have every right to be pessimistic and bitter about Nintendo.

Oh arg. Sorry. Next-gen from Nintendo?

Pikmin 3 looked nice but that was the best thing shown. 3rd Party stuff looked no better but its tough to judge from the show footage.

Damn. Disappointing. I've been waiting for Pikmin 3 forever but that alone won't make the Wii U too appealing for some time.

5-player family coop.

Aren't mom and dad only springing for that if they can be sold on the casual value and I might be totally naive but is Wii-Fit really going to work 2nd time around. There just doesn't seem enough differentiation between the two consoles for most parents that already have the Wii and their kids begging for Wii-U

Is Nintendo World a pack-in game?

It really should be, but based on the seemingly too-flashy hub, I doubt it. That'd be really sad because this would make an absolutely great pack-in. Has all the appeal and messaging of Wii Sports but looks 50x more impressive.

Ah, Peter - I see the Dreamcastee has become the Dreamcaster.

I found that whole thing confusing, at times it sounded like it's an online thing, then a pack in, then preloaded software, then retail. I hope someone can clarify this.

It is on the launch title list as a separate game--it's not a pack-in.

And people were calling me out when I said there was potential for this thing to sell GCN numbers. Thing is, I don't know if I should feel good or bad. What I say today was definitely sad. Nintendo really doesn't make consoles for me anymore. There handhelds and sony/micro consoles are where I'm looking to be headed. This gen on a whole is feeling stale as well. Maybe the five year reset was a good idea. HD just kinda fucked everything up.

Yes.
It was from that image. I know its zoomed in onto the Pikmins.

But even in the other screens, the textures arent really... crisp.

Graphics aren't even competitive by today's standards. They look like average-looking 360 games from ~3 years ago. Look at the footage of the Pikmin moving around in the water. Water barely moves, it's really rudimentary. That's just one example.

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
I got my GBA games aaaages ago. Seriously, I cannot even begin to understand how there was not one bomb to be dropped.

The Nintendo Direct seemed to be home to the bombs (and that's why I consider it part of the conference ho ho ho).

I think (hope) that Nintendo will show enough additional software, at least on the first-party front, at the inevitable September events to turn much of the perception around.

But they utterly botched this, and they seem to have utterly botched their relationships with every third party save Ubisoft and WBIE.

Pikmin looked great with some nice new ideas but I personally did not think it was worth using the Wii-U Controller. They had a map on there for a more tactical view but it seemed a little redundant. I expected a bit more from Nintendo with something like Pikmin 3.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this happened.

How do you launch a console with no games?

How do you spend a section of your conference talking about a game that released last year on everyone else's console?

How do you take a year of absolute silence to prepare for a big rereveal after the disappointing initial announcement, and then show the exact same things you showed last year? Especially when studios like Retro and Monolith have surely been working on something for 2 years now.

How do you put absolutely no effort into combatting the rumors that your system is severely underpowered? Just one stage demo of a graphically impressive, Wii U exclusive game. That's it. That's all you needed to do.

Lots of misplaced resources, and I think Nintendo has wore down and Japanese development in general has slowed to a crawl falling behind regional rivals.

They have to infuse more resources into handheld games now with 3D models than they've had to in the past when they were just making mostly 2D games, so that's not helping their console side.

It really feels like the past two years NCL has done nothing. They sunk all kinds of resources though into Skyward Sword - the problem being the Wii was essentially dead when it came out, so it was horrific timing.

They have their Smash Bros. development lead waiting to finish a 3DS title that has a cult audience at best with a maligned control scheme.

Meanwhile, they're having huge losses, so at the same time they need Mario to bail them out of hard times. So the easiest thing to do? Make a cut and paste derivative Mario game based off of whats already there. So you get the third and fourth versions of New Super Mario Bros coming this year to handheld and console to try to bail them out. Then you have the much rumored Pikmin 3 that's been stewing for a decade now, FINALLY come out, as a game you can tell was built up from the Wii and transferred over.

Horribly, horribly mismanaged company right now. No one had the foresight to move things with the Wii U along earlier and plan development around it. Instead they sunk heavy resources into a dead system and tied up huge franchises waiting for team leads to finish fringe handheld games. What the fuck is going on?

I'll give you the Wii Fit thing. From the video we saw today, I saw absolutely nothing that has been added to that series. Pointless and I can't see people upgrading.

I still think the Mario family coop is going to be huge, as is the ability for people to stream the system without the television.

2004 was a great show. Birth of "My name is Reggie...", trailers for Prime 2, Star Fox and RE4 right out of the gate, DS reveal, Revolution name-drop by Iwata and then the Zelda trailer. Probably the best show they've ever done.

Nothing compares to that E3 for me. I was in 9th grade and just dumbfounded. Now it's just the heartbreak after heartbreak cycle again from Nintendo. I thought they had it in the bad. All they had to do was show the Retro or Monolith game. Oh well.

At least we had Ubisoft. For a few glorious moments I could feel the hype again.

Next-gen needs to come quickly. All 3 failing to utterly impress seems to be a sign that people are getting tired of the same old military shooters, sports games and Mario over and over.

As long as Call of Duty, Madden and Mario continue to sell bazillions I doubt anything will change. No matter how angry forum nerds get.

...Or was that sarcasm? Please ignore if that's the case.

In that post, I wasn't talking about how the presentations were handled - though most have been awful frankly - but more to do with how little was revealed about support, for both the Wii U and Vita. Frankly, Vita barely being mentioned in Sony's presser? Either it's world class stupidity or they simply have nothing to show for it. Methinks that same issue is at the heart of Nintendo's conference...

Either they're remarkably stupid, or there isn't much to show. If there is a lot of show and they just chose not to show it? They're really ridiculously shit at this.

Always have. And always will. God, I wish I had Ace's phone number just to rub it in. And Poo's too. Then cry myself to sleep afterwards. I was so ready to buy this thing day one. Now Pokemon Black and White 2 is my most anticipated title of teh year.

Yeah Nintendo fucked something up, especially with EA. I still think Black Ops 2 is coming, because Alberto basically said they were showing it off. But no EA Sports at launch is unprecedented.

The only thing I can think of as reason for this abysmal showing is that Pikmin 3, Batman AC, and Nintendo Land were the only things they had ready enough to show.

The question is, why? Are the other studios (even Nintendo internals) having a terrible time trying to program for the Wii U? They just really, really screwed the pooch. Worst launch year console E3 debut ever.

I'm sure, just like all other Nintendo consoles, I'll end up getting the Wii U day 1, but their E3 conference ruined any hype I had.

I still 100% stand by my prediction that the next Nintendo system is a team collaboration with Nintendo and Apple. It's the only way they get the situation with 3rd parties back where it needs to be.

Pretty much. I am still a bit shocked how they managed to pass up a perfect opportunity after MS and Sony showed pretty much nothing.

Yep. No pricing info either. A huge disappointment.

They didn't announce anything that wasn't announced last year. All they did was show games they said were in development.

Sounds like.. I dunno, kind of a botched mess. Sony's presser was just boring and basically the nail in the coffin for their Vita support in the US, MS's presser was, from what I can gather, not as much about games as it was about Usher and various services, and Nintendo seems to basically have gone 'we have a new console, but we're not gonna tell you anything about it, here are some games you already played on PCS360'. This year's E3 sucks.

Massive misstep if it's not a pack in. The Wii's success was in no small part down to having Wii Sports with it to show the capability of the control system. Seems Nintendo have forgotten everything they did right at the beginning of this generation.

Maybe Nintendo's plan to avoid the 3DS launch situation was not to have a ton of games, but just outright admit they've got sweet fuck all instead of pretending otherwise.

Their plan is NSMB U, Wii Fit U, Just Dance 4, Sing, and Nintendo Land. While I'm pretty disappointed that Nintendo Land is intended to be the Wii Sports equivalent, that line-up will move a lot of units, unlike the 3DS launch line-up.
