Final Fantasy real time tech demo - Luminous Studio [Up3: Survey/Screens/Video]

I feel it would also be kind of weird if a ton of companies were investing what must cumulatively be hundreds of millions of dollars in technology that won't work on next-gen consoles.

Well i would pay 599 for a console with those graphic capabilities, probably even more.

I mean, do people really look at this image, look at a current gen game, and then go "Woah that's entirely impossible!"?

I mean, his collar low-ish resolution, his hair is kind of janky. This isn't exactly insanity.

Check the credits.

He did, Iwata is listed as the Character Designer and Lead Artist, Nomura is listed as a Character Design Advisor, but that's relegated to the last line of the credits, so I like to think that Iwata told him to go f@$% himself and let him work.

Current games can barely maintain a steady framerate, let alone do it at 1080p. i have trouble believing were just going to head into the age where all games look near cgi in motion when most games cant even do 720p without some compromises.

The 1080p version of this is absolutely jawdropping. The water at the end (even though it's a ways off on the horizon) blew my mind!

Well, there's absolutely no way the PS3 is rendering The Last of Us at the resolution of that screenshot, whereas this video seems to be rendered at native 1080p.

The screenshot is 1280x720 which is the resolution of the game. Hasnt this already been confirmed to be ingame many times?

I didn't see the end of it, that looks very nice actually.

But I could have added so much more. Like "needs more chocobos and rock music."

Considering it's been almost 7 years now since the PS3 and 360 launched, I wouldn't be too sure. Hardware has come a long way since then, even if we're only getting a few games on PC that show it.

Looks good, but as for seeing that character again, I vote no. She's too similar to the New Aya Brea, she seems like she is a weakling. I want a badass female protagonist, one who is also funny and charming. Lightening was close, but she didn't have the last two aspects I want.

I have a feeling that that TLOU image is gonna be the new 'Silent Hill' man. Which is to say it's important to place the images in context in regards to how they're being rendered, size and other technical aspects. To my eye the FF image looks much stronger in regards to lighting, texture and model complexity.

That mutant wolf was at her arm for so long that I was suprised the arm didn't rip off.

Yeah I noticed that too. For a drug crazed wolf thing it was pretty average at clawing and biting.

I just want a regular girl who i can relate to who may or may not have powers. So many different tastes. I really need to work on my world domination plans so I can get the FF game I want.

I don't doubt the assets are in-game, but there's not a hint of aliasing in that TLOU shot, so I'd be immensely surprised to learn that screenshot isn't actually downsampled to 720p from a higher (potentially much higher) resolution render.

Someone can certainly correct me if I'm mistaken.

hahahahaha they are Modern Warfareing Final Fantasy plots now. Oh Squeenix.

Not that it doesn't look pretty! But, Diminishing Returns.

Terrorists with guns aren't new to FF games
Nor is some sort of invasion to steal a crystal

It just conjures up Modern Warfare vibes because it has a more realistic style

I think it's really silly to judge graphics based solely on screenshots. The real reason the SQ demo is still leagues ahead of Naughty God's game is the subtle lighting and how it reacts in the world. It's something you can only see in motion.

At this point graphics in games are so good that if you judge with a picture anything can look as good as anything.

Looking at pictures these screens can all be put in the same level of graphics but we know for a fact just the polygon numbers in each photo are greatly different. Seeing each in motion also proves this point.

My only solace is that this is only a tech demo and hopefully we'll have none of that shit in FFXV-oh who the fuck am I kidding.

Here's what I posted for feedback on the survey:

"I think the world is too brown. I want lush green worlds like Pulse of FFXIII. The hero's hair is too short and should be an unnatural colour."

Hope Square listens.
I hope this is a joke post.

...

take the time to let them know in the survey that you think the guns are out of place
It's not guns I'm against to, it's the tone. But I am aware this is an unpopular opinion.

But yeah, tech demo and all. It was... entertaining for that factor. It's just very difficult for me to get impressed at video games becoming more like movies anymore.

Next gen can't come soon enough. Know this is a techdemo and all but still clinging on to the hope that the PS4/XBX3 will deliver the goods hardware wise to make visuals like this feasible. Time to finally get that second job! :p

Replace guns with swords pulled from people's chests and Middle East-inspired town with a magic school. What are your thoughts now?

if it was less guerrilla, middle-eastern warfare, i probably wouldn't notice any resemblance at all.

his beard looks kinda weird

or is it just me?

Yeah, of everything in the demo, the hair still needs the most work, but on the plus side they still have 1.5 years before the next consoles are even released to hash that one out.

In theory, with compute shaders you should be able to make a pretty nice rendering sim for it.

Squeenix is creatively bankrupt and if this were a real game I would accuse them of trying to appeal to the dudebro audience.

Hey, I saved some space!

What is dudebro about this? The protagonist doesn't even shoot at anything. It only looks as a new take on Magic vs Tech theme.

So, since this is a fair point, I'll use some capture card screenshots from current gen games.

I must be misunderstanding the argument here. It seemed he was saying the SE tech demo was no better than TLOU, but that doesn't actually seem to be what he was saying judging by his last post. Similarly, I'm unclear on which side of the argument you're trying to argue, haha.

Obviously, rendering resolution is only a fraction of what's necessary to create the kind of presence this tech demo creates. Since I thought he was saying TLOU looked just as good based on the screenshots I was actually arguing against that since there's plenty of stuff the SE demo is doing that put it way over the top (while still suffering from some fairly obvious and pedestrian graphical anomalies that we're all used to seeing).
