You dont know that. It's unlikely that everything is changed from the base design.

Nintendo has their own GPU team, so yeah, it's likely highly custom, there could even still be fixed functionality on the chip. We will have to wait and see. Not expecting the world though, Trinity is a 386 shader unit at 680mhz (?) about 500Gflops to work with. (roughly twice 360)

My TV does. It's how I pass DTS audio from my AppleTV running XBMC to my Pioneer receiver that only has optical. It'll pass DD5.1 as well as evidenced by my 360 working with it in 5.1 mode. I was quite surprised when the receiver lit up indicating it was decoding the audio. It's a 3-4 year old LG LCD TV so if current TVs can't do it that's really disappointing.
Too bad it won't help you in this case

Guess what son .... times change.

Expectations change, I get that. But you're being a bit pigheaded by not playing games if they're not a certain res. There are some graphical complaints I see as legitimate reasons for passing on a game, but that (alone) really isn't one of them. In addition, greater than 30fps has never, is not, and will never be the standard.

Aside from that, if you care about resolution so much, you would have always been a PC gamer anyways. Mutliple high profile games this gen were sub-HD, and the resolution track record for consoles versus PC gets worse the further you go back.

Holy cow does Trine 2 really looks that good? I mean on 360/PS3? Most of those screens looks like art concepts for the game, I might have to go buy the game like right now on PC I guess

We also have these images to suggest that WiiU is capable. These are downsampled to 720p so it might have been from a 1080p source

Those are the same PR screens that were used for the pc version. You can see them on it's Steam page, unlikely representative of the Wii U version.

The customation is probably limited to DX11 features and onboard eDRAM. We haven't seen anything from games suggesting otherwise.

I think you are having expectations way beyond realistic at this point. Nintendo themselves made it pretty clear that even going HD that all of their games are not going to push the system.

3rd party ports are generally not going to push the system either unless the dev team has the time and flexability to use extra power. When we start seeing built from the ground up games we will see progress. Every Game shown today started development on another system and was ported even ZombiU

As stated above they are probably PC/bullshots. I think the probability of it looking better than PS3 or 360 is VERY low. It looked great on those consoles though, but it's not a game that will push the hardware.

People at the show said it looked at least as good, and the game-maker says in the press release that it has been graphically enhanced. So, I wouldn't say "very low."

Pretty sure on the PR says it has upgraded console graphics exclusively for the WiiU. I'll have to recheck it though.

 Improved console graphics only available on the Wii U

Since Ubisoft wouldn't have started developing Killer Freaks on Wii, that makes ZombiU based off of a PS360 reject. Nice.

It was a 360 project before it was comandeered for the Wii U then of course they decided an Arcade shooter wasnt the direction to go and went survival horror

The 360/PS3 builds probably aren't as heavily antialiased, but yeah, that's what the game actually looks like. Lots of dynamic lighting and animation in the environments that doesn't come across in screenshots, too.

Adding to what antonz said, who btw is a dev working with the Wii u, at least that's my understanding, there is nothing that a 7000 series card can do that isn't feature capable in the 4000 series except for DX11, maybe you can tell me what to look for?

Also as I have mentioned there is a Nintendo hardware team that had a huge hand in creating the Wii's gpu, they aren't just paid to stand around, and they have heavy connections to ATI, so if they didn't have a hand in creating Wii U's GPU, it would go beyond logic.

I've heard these sorts of things before though. For example developers and journalists were talking up PS3 versions of their games leading up to the launch, and most of them failed to match the 360 versions at the time.

As with all things, believe it when you see it. Wait until the games are released before judging them as greater or lesser. No doubt things shown at E3 will be tightened up by launch.

Arkham City looks worse on the Wii U than 360/PS3. Wonderful.

So from what I'm reading, Wii U = Stronger 360, low end next-gen?

The speculation on all of this, because the PS4 and 720 are non-existent right now in real footage any of us have seen, is that it will "Be the PS2" of next gen in terms of power compared to the GC, Xbox, and PS2.

Still too early to tell. Might be a 3DS situation, where 2nd year games look a lot better than launch games.

Not sure if it means much, but the Trine 2 PR did mention that the graphics are improved for WiiU.

You dont know that. It's unlikely that everything is changed from the base design.

They started designing in 2009, they just took what was available in that year and started building. Everything we have heard about it points to being highly customized and completely modern(the feature set in the OP proves that much). How much actual power it is packing is another matter of course.

Haha, I wonder if that rumor about it being demo'd in place of Aliens is true then. It's clearly not finished.

It suffers from really bad texture popin. Once that fixes itself it looks alot better but Its not excusable considering the advantages the system has over the other consoles.

Seems that way. Another generation of UE3 teething? I hope not.

Is there any comparison out there? Everyone is saying well this looks better on Wii U and the looks worse on Wii U. I want to see some screenshots now. Its beginning to sound like the speculation thread in here. All we have is word of mouth and video that cant confirm specifically that its WiiU version or not. Dont kill me Im just sayin..

There's footage on GameTrailers. As antonz said, there's severe texture LOD pop-in issues, noticeable on the thugs. At the start of the encounter, the thug's textures are dreadful, and take a little while to load into full detail.

I havent played the dlc so I dont know if you return to that area at all but it seems like they reskinned the thugs. In 360 footage they are all wearing orange prison jumpsuits while wii u version has new outfits

I checked out Assassin's Creed and Ninja Gaiden for the Wii-U today at E3, and they both SEEM about as capable of what you'd see on the 360/PS3, except that AC was pretty choppy. Like 25 fps. And if that's happening on a dev kit with 3 times the memory of what Wii U will eventually have... D:

'Tis called last-minute porting.

I figured during the conference when they said whoever the dev is it might just be a shoddy port job, seems like that wasn't far off the money.

More like the Dreamcast of that era in terms of power.

Have we seen Wii U footage of it? What I've seen looked just like current gen.

Oh joy.

Yeah, Gametrailers has the Wii U version running... My point is that Assassin's creed 3 looks just as good as anything we've seen from the 360 (maybe minus gears 3) not that the Wii U version looked better... BTW they show off no controller features, so I don't know what to expect as far as that goes.

It's actually probably closest to Dreamcast vs PS2. I highly suspect Watch Dogs vs that new FF engine, is the rough difference you'll see between these boxes.

In the footage I've seen, I personally think the lighting looks better in the wii u iterations of AC 3.

I just want it to run smoothly really... the game looks great, only problem I saw was one of the red coats ended up freezing during a battle, it's later on, but it's very easy to spot. Clearly still early in development.

What really PO's me right now is EA/Activision basically ignoring Wii U, I am absolutely flooded that a COD isn't coming this year, not that I would of bought it (more of a battlefield guy/PC shooter) but the entire ability to just port over your game and use the pro controller, should of made it dead simple.

Maybe Ubisoft cashes in super hard, because even ghost recon looked good on Wii U.

OK, I'll have to go hunt that one out on GT. If it's a straight ports I guess it will look the same, but man I would have thought after all this time that kits have been out Wii U versions would be looking noticeably better.

Yeah I can understand EA sports games missing as its late in their dev cycles (better luck next year?), although I think Nintendo listed nba live on their presser. Cod not being announced concerns me though. Supposedly it's still in development for wii u though so I we see it we'll see it at the wii u conference most likely taking place in September.

The leaked specs are apparently old target specs which are quite different from the final ones. The games maybe look no better than the current gen because the machine isn't :-(

If definitely the case, proof that Nintendo really are out of touch with a large part of their audience :-(

I wasn't implying there were any big feature differences. But there are a lot small to major tweaks between the 4000 and latest series cards that affect efficiency, not limited to dxlevel differences.

Also as I have mentioned there is a Nintendo hardware team that had a huge hand in creating the Wii's gpu, they aren't just paid to stand around, and they have heavy connections to ATI, so if they didn't have a hand in creating Wii U's GPU, it would go beyond logic.

We still have no idea how different it will be. I'm not denying Nintendo would have a hand in it's development. It would be a bad idea for it to be wildly different from standard architectures.

And the specs in this thread support that some things are unchanged from the base card (eg MSAA support only up to 8x, texture res only up to 8k x 8k).

Well gameinformer puts Tomb Raider in the systems category for WiiU so idk how that can be on Wii U and not EA sports games..I mean 2k13 is even on it EA will not just let 2K have the Wii U..pretty confident that Wii U will get madden and stuff..If not well then I am honestly surprised because what kind of a shithouse was madden 3D..just random for them to not have it.
