Demon's Souls and Dark Souls: What's the coolest BOSS?

I'd like to use this time to say fuck bed of chaos. I'm so tired of trudging back to that boss only to be swiped off an edge. It's so damn frustrating. It's the reason I've retired the game.

For me it's a tie between Astraea and Smough/Orstein. False King is definitely up there as well as Maneater! Oh and I have to ask, what was so bad about Gravelord Nito? The adds? Fighting in the dark?

*edit* - ^Yes, fuck Bed of Chaos! The worst boss in both games!

Some mod please insert "SPOILER" in the title. It would solve the problem.

I rolled to get out of the way.

You know I dreamt about Demon's Souls 2. The middle piller was available and when I went into that world I saw giant monstrosities known as the Old Ones.

jesus fuck the false king from demons souls. i honestly must have tried to beat him 20-30 times before i finally did. i even tried to cheese him with the arrow trick just as you step into the fog but eventually i just had to man-up and take him on. i BARELY beat him too. i never got de-leveled though, i was a mage and was able to more or less avoid those attacks

I rolled to get out of the way.

I eventually destroyed the 2 side things, but the issue now is when I go for the leap in the center. Either I miss the platform or get pushed by him midair. Eventually I'll get it, but I just got so fed up with walking back to that fight.

Tower Knight

I also just can't forget the first time I ran into him and thought "how the hell am I going to take this thing down?"

Oh wait, wrong boss. lol

Don't run. Walk with shield up for the first 2 parts. As for leap, there is a small, narrow protrusion right by the hole, right in front of the boss slightly to your right (I think), leap from there. You'll make it.

Only 2 mentions of Gwyn? :(

I bet most people that say he isn't hard is because either they get help from sunbro/another player(s) or because all they do is parry him. He's like Flamelurker on crack, and when you arrive, he's just there... waiting for you... no epic introduction or cutscene or anything, and his theme is the best.

So yeah my vote goes to the Lord of Cinder.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Smough and Ornstein, no doubt.

Maybe music-wise, yeah. But Old King Allant beats everything in DkS and DS. Simply put the best boss fight this generation.

I love fromsoftware. They have really saved me this generation with their games.

I would still have to say at this point it wouls have to be tower knight. I didnt know what I was getting into till I first encountered him and died a good handfull of times. But when I finished him off, best feeling ive had in a game for a long while.

I really enjoyed fighting quelagg, sif, the adjucator with the bird hat. And also some of the NPCs that turn on you.

Cant wait for PC edition to double dip for support.
Also cant wait to see what they do with the next kings field

I thought the Bell Gargoyles were awesome. Fighting the both of them on a church rooftop with that sunburst and cloudy sky... that's when the game clicked for me.

Taurus Demon gets my vote.

When I think of Dark Souls, I think of this fight.

Walking towards the tower in the distance only to have this terrifying thing jump right in front of you, and running all the way back out of sheer terror.

Then climbing to safety up the ladder to the tower, only to have him jump up with you and pulverize you to smithereens.

To me, this fight embodies everything about Dark Souls.

Praise the Sun!

i'm not going to say she's the coolest boss but maiden astrea has the best boss theme in demons souls (i've only fought 3 or 4 bosses so far in dark souls though)

Don't worry, it still is.

Mainly how fucking easy he was despite being a God, and the best visually designed one at that.

So many great bosses throughout this series, but I want to put in a special word for Queelag. Just such cool design, really satisfying one-on-one melee dual.

Astraea is an unbelievably effective and emotive moment. These games have so much going for them...the challenge, the variety, the unpredictability, the depth and the atmosphere are a few, but also the story-telling, lore and characters are so effective when you really start to get a read on them.

I really like O&S, because of the difficulty and sense of accomplishment in the moments after it. Also the music is balls awesome, and the co-op is great in that area.

Maneater is up there. And I really like Adjudicator and Tower Knight. Maiden Astrea was pretty incredible emotionally (music too). Such fond memories. Really one of my most beloved video game series.

Yeah, I really like Queelag. She kicked the crap out of me the first time, but then I put on light armor and learned her moves and she couldn't hit me anymore. Then I helped a bunch of people beat her. One of my favorite parts of the game.

MAAAAAAN I wish my 360 hadn't bricked so I could play Dark Souls again. Could buy it again for PS3 but I want it for PC when that comes out and I'll damned if I'm doing to triple dip.

Gotta go with Smough & Ornstein, these guys were like the ultimate road block for me, my shield was weak and flimsy, the continuous rushdown like assault was too much for me to the point they actually gave me the bums rush out of Anor Londo entirely so I could power up my weapons and grab a new shield. This was effectively the training montage section of my journey.
And when I returned it was glorious, I could actually stand up to their attacks defence wise and gained myself one of the most satisfying victories i've had in a game, overcoming those handicap odds.

When he starts
limping towards the end

:(
Aw, that sounds sad. :( Hate seeing a poochy hurt. (Even if he's trying to sword you to death, I s'ppose.)

I looked up a video of Quelag and wow, that's cool. I like the way she creates mini-magma moats, lol. I learn a lot about these games watching the boss videos, like how you get invincibility frames rolling and can pass straight through Quelag's sword swipes this way. Also, the risk management of stamina is key -- several strikes, then retreat, and no attacking after absorbing a shield blow unless you regain your stamina first. Seems like most anything can be blocked, though, even the massive hammer strikes or impaling spear of O&S, which clip the character model and look like they would damage regardless.

Demon's Souls: Armored Spider (just looks cool to me), Old Hero, Maiden Astraea
Dark Souls: Moonlight Butterfly (the music, the setting, everything makes this battle perfect....until you die), Ornstein & Smough (totally epic battle), Great Grey Wolf Sif (tough battle because he is literally stronger than you melee wise), Queelag (fun battle although on co-op it is cheating to beat her)

The Flamelurker in Demon's Souls is fine, although he's a bit of an idiot. Oh and
fuck the Four Kings.

dark souls: capra demon

Fuck those dogs. In my first playthrough I beat Capra no problem because I was able to run past them, up those stairs, killing all three as they followed, and then easily dealing with Capra.

On my current playthrough I've tried two or three times and I keep getting caught on those fucking dogs; they surround me as soon as I'm in, blocking my path, and then Capra slams me down.

Yeah, for me (in Dark Souls), the blockers were:
* Capra
* Queelag
* O&S

Demon's: False King and Maneater, the only really challenging bosses in the game for me. Maiden Astraea for uniqueness and atmosphere.

Dark: Ornstein and Smough, Gaping Dragon, Four Kings, great designs and challenging. Sif had great music and atmosphere but was too easy.

For me Gargoyles, Gaping Dragon, Smough & Ornstein.
Few people seem to have trouble with Gaping Dragon but that was like an endurance test for me due to my low damage output on it, plus it could one hit kill me with a tail/body nudge if I was unfortunate.

That's funny, I beat Gaping Dragon on the first try while Sif took me a while. I guess it has more to do with your character build or something.

i know, those fucking dogs killed me like 30 times easily, i was like, ohhh man, and this is the second boss in the game?? i'm screwed :(

edit: also my first char was a naked deprived :O

I think the biggest issue with Gaping Dragon is heavy vs. light armor. That fight is a joke if you can run quickly.

False King is hard as balls. I think I cheesed him using poison cloud.

That boss felt like a Castlevania boss.

I came to post this. Before poison cloud, I would step inside the door and shower him long distance with arrows. This is where my kids learned the term "cheesing a boss".

Got a few that I really like

Gwyn: You step through the door and he's there staring you down on some flaming super saiyan shit. If your stability isn't up to scratch YOU WILL GET OBLITERATED. It's amazing how he just shits on you if you aren't a proper tank. Yeah you can prance around through fireballs/magic but, try to fight the dude head on it's terrifying.

Once you get the parrying down pat, so satisfying. Not only because parrying feels good, but because if you don't you're fucked. Nailing 6 in a row... orgasmic

Flamelurker: Hey this isn't so bad BEAST MODE INITIATED... Holy fuck. When he goes off it's amazing. The theme has to be my favourite from Demon's Souls. So ominous with no real top note to speak of. Sounds like the theme of your ass whipping

Four Kings: Mostly made for me by the theme and setting. In the darkness of the abyss you see this thing on the horizon. Chase that fool down and wack the shit out of him because his boys are on the way. It really isn't that great tbh, but those opening moments really stick out to me

Maneater: I'm gonna make it. I'm gonna make it... WHY GOD? WHY? This boss wrecked my shit so bad. Between the 2 fucking bosses, like no room and death one misplaced step away; possibly the most stressful boss for me in either games.

But Old King Allant beats everything in DkS and DS. Simply put the best boss fight this generation.

I found him pretty fucking dumb. At mid range he doesn't really do anything. He's super easy for ranged since he doesn't pursue like a lot of the other bosses

Eh, he's got his (slow) AoE, (fast) charge and his combo that he can do immediately after his charge. It's an amazing boss, that's not an opinion.

I wanna say sif because it had this really subtle backstory that was actually contained within the arena. You could just walk around and experience it. And during the fight, there was a certain point (you all know it) that I kind of wanted to let him live. Kind of loved that.

But the music during O&S was pretty amazing. Also for me personally, maneater was a great experience because I did it in one try with arrows and it took me about 45 minutes. I had no idea what I was getting into so I walked in just to see what the situation was. At some point I realized I could actually beat them and shit got real.

you must have been ultra lucky then,it's almost impossible to not get hit by soulsucker the first time you fight him,and this attack killed me even on level 100 in one hit

Probably. I was also going for as much towards plat as possible, so I was like SL230 or something.

Yeah I think Anor Londo and O&S is basically the centerpiece of Dark Souls. All the first parts of the game come together and culminate in that zone and boss. And MAN is it a bitch of a zone/boss.

EDIT: Ash Lake ought to have a boss. I love that zone.

Having only played Demons Souls, I can only answer for that game. I enjoyed most of them to be honest, but the following ones really stand out in my mind.
Old Hero - I liked the fact that you had to be slow and quiet because he was blind, and move after most attacks.
Maneater - This was pretty intense for the narrow playing area whilst fighting him, and the second one really caught me off guard.
Old Monk - Both good and bad. The first time I fought him, I didn't know it was another player and got beaten because I wasn't expecting it to be so predictable. It's somewhat bad because you could get acid/poisoned etc, depending upon how cruel the other person wanted to be.
And Tower Knight - Mainly because I had no idea what to do at first, and the scale of him was pretty awesome.

As an aside, I'm thinking about getting Dark Souls. Could anyone tell me what the multiplayer side of it is like on PS3? And is it way better than Demons? Thanks :)
