New PS3 Model pics leaked

Whether or not it's a stupid move depends entirely on the price and the ease of their hard drive strategy (such as if they allow externals; although I don't even know if that's possible or if Sony would ever allow it).

If a 16GB unit allows them to get as close to £100 as possible then it's a potentially smart move.

I think it will have a slot for a HDD and installing one will disable the 16Gb flash entirely. The PS3 OS was not designed for multiple storage options, changing it now would be too much work.

I wonder why they're remodeling it again. Trying to grab the last of the crowd that they can before the new generation? Will they be able to sell enough this late in the generation to cover the cost of producing all these?

Are you serious? PS3 will sell another 15 million globally before they stop selling them.

Looks pretty ugly in the photos but then I think I said the same about the Slim and that turned out to be a nice design IMO.

The lack of USB ports in the back is facepalm worthy.

The most interesting aspect is the 16GB. If that is correct then we could be looking at <£150. It will surely cause a reaction from MS.

If they brought back the the touch sensors from the original (probably wrong on the terminology there0 I would seriously buy one. I hate my current slim and it's actual eject and power buttons but had no choice when my launch model crapped out.

touch is the crappiest idea ever.

It's kinda hard to give a full judgement from a couple of blurry pictures, but Sony's industrial design can be so hit and miss.

They design some really gorgeous TV sets and laptops but I've never liked where they've taken the PS3.

PS3 lifespan is far from over. They will be selling a lot of these well into 2014, maybe even 2015.

my 40gb is so fucking loud, so I'll be picking up one of these as soon as I can.

I almost hope they sell a 16gb flash based model for $149 that has an option for a hard drive upgrade, so I can use my existing 320.

Is it ugly? Not sure yet, these photos look really shitty.

yep the thing with sony consoles is that they are selling well in some smaller markets compared to the other two. This is why they still ship ps2's! I think the ps3 will be selling for a long long time.

I think it will be selling simply because PS360 generation will last a long time. I'm not sure if PS3 has the kind of pull that PS2 had in these smaller markets. Maybe it does, I don't know.

That would make much more sense, sure.

I wonder how low Sony can physically sell the PS3 at even with a 16GB model. At £150 the 16GB would appear pretty pointless but if they get that thing down to £120 (or even £100, if it's possible?) then I personally would get the 16GB and fit my own hard drive down the line.

No amount of lighting and photoshop could make that thing look nice. The step where one panel slides over the other is just utterly foul.

I agree, it looks ugly but everyone said exactly the same thing when the first pics of the PS3 slim came out and everyone is okay with it now. People will get used to it and buy it either way. Most people here are exaggerating IMO.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
Holy crap that thing is ugly. It looks like an exaggerated 32X.

Eh. Not great, but I don't think it's horrible. Maybe get rid of the ridges.
A lot of the hate here seems hyperbolic. After a month we'll forget about it.

Anyways, will be interested in the price points on this.

Well given how well ps2 is still selling, the ps brand in general is very strong in those markets. Price is the biggest issue for them. When the ps3 becomes cheaper and ps3 games start to worth next to nothing, those markets will really start buying the ps3. Playstation brand is very strong still worldwide.

The designer should be shifted, what the hell were they thinking producing such an ugly child?

Slim will stay the best version.
