Yep, I think this was said several times by EA people. I don't understand why people is freaking out. Well, I suppose people expected Bad Company 3 more than the next numbered Battlefield..
A few of us have tried to point that out but the hate train is already gaining speed as if this was new news. Sure, some people can disagree with the 2-year cycle but it's amazing how we go through the same thing again over something we already knew.
I'm more concerned whether it's next-gen or not because the numbered sequels usually at least signify a good amount of improvements and change. I just wonder if they're rushing too fast on using the number 4 but I guess they don't want to confuse people they brought in with BF3.
If it's truly BF4, then it needs to focus on what made the MAIN BF series popular which is big maps with a lot of choices what to attack and what you gain from it and a focus on vehicles for the majority of the maps again. If it's next-gen, then we can assume all versions would be 64 players meaning no sacrificing maps for the consoles. The next DLC for BF3 seems to be addressing all of these issues for PC players so they better not go backwards.

I dont see how if this was BFBC3 people would be happier? Are BFBC games cheaper and or vastly different from BF3, i only ever played the first one at launch so i dont really remember it.
P.S Isnt this the same business model Activision uses? Infinty ward and treyarch swapping years to make a COD game...cept here its BF and MoH games.

Some DICE employees were talking about SPU coding very recently on Twitter so it looks like they have another PS3 game on the way.

Uhh, two year cycle. This Beta will probably be May-June 2013, BF4 will be Nov 2013.

They were pretty explicit in an interview a while ago that they were going to focus on the "main" games.
Given how high their sales bar is, I would expect it to be on both generations.
They would have to give up way too much audience to go next-gen exclusive in Fall 2013.

That will probably mean the next gen version is current gen upresed though LOL. You wont get a "true" next gen BF till they cut ties with current.
I suspect MoH Reboot 3 has a 50/50 change of being cross generation as well, and then Battlefield 5 in 2015 to drop the last generation.
Nah, if you've ever compared BF3 on consoles and PC, it's pretty obvious that the PC version was the base and the consoles got a severely downgraded version. They're good about handling lead platforms correctly, at least recently.

Do people just want Bad Company? Not sure how people are upset at DICE releasing a game every two years.
Well if the development is like BF3, than the next gen versions will be much closer to the PC one, hopefully more players on the new console(s) as well.

It's probably cheaper to make those map packs too, rather than make a whole new game that no one will play online.
It's probably worth keeping in mind that Medal of Honor sold 6 million copies and half of the people who bought it never bought Battlefield 3.
That's kind of a lot of money to leave on the table.
Well, to be fair, it might be a good thing that it isn't Bad Company 3. What DICE calls their games is essentially irrelevant as they tend to be functionally similar as of late. A Bad Company sequel a few years down the line may mean it can be the game it should be -- rather than simply being the next Battlefield game following the one before it.

Honestly, it astounds me how some "big" sites don't even know how to source news properly. Isn't that like, Games Reporting 101 or something? I know I was taught all these when I started out in the field.

Because they can make more money by also releasing MOH? It's a completely different game too. No one is forcing BF fans to buy it. I am sure not going to.

Way too soon for any mention of Battlefield 4 IMO. I wish more devs took the Rockstar course of action and gave their franchises room to breathe while working on new stuff in between. But of course millions of people buy these things every year so maybe I'm crazy.

Is the name really that big of a game-changer? I can see people not bitching about this if it was called BC3...seriously, that's just a name.
Although I do get why. I think people want a numbered entry to be something that means something and natural assumption is, what could DICE have learned within BF3's release.
It seems some are hating it simply because it's EA...if the time comes that a Battlefield game is not FUN, then I'll help with the bashing, but as it stands, BF is my (and a ton of people I know) preferred MP FPS and unless the game severely takes a nosedive, then I'm going to get it.
Speaking of which, BF4 leak just when this happened last night? Hope that doesn't mess with the game's formula too much.

God damn. No wonder people just slap a modern military theme on their game and call it a day. Costumers really don't give a shit what they play these days I suppose.

Way too soon but if true EA and DICE will have to present a bunch of new shit that makes the game really differentiate from BF3 and frankly IMO i dont see that happening with current gen, so if in fact this is true and was not a typo first next gen game confirmed? If true and not a next gen title EA is going to lose a ton of money.

Hey Alex, yes I'm from MP1st, mods can check my email to confirm. I just never started any thread here and didn't want to be labeled as someone who spams GAF to get hits, and certainly don't want to get the site I co-founded banned on the industry's top forum.
I don't know why not getting credit for this find got under my skin, usually I have a rule that my time is better spent looking for the next big find, rather than seeking credit. I usually just post on N4G when I break a story, like with this one.
Anyway, I learned my lesson for Battlefield 5 beta packed in Medal of Honor: Firefighter.

Way too soon, but I've decided I won't get any new FPSs. Pre-ordered BF3, bought Premium 2 weeks after launch, and BF3 will keep existing for a good few years more, so no Dice.

How so? I hope the next-gen consoles get a version, but I seriously doubt it's going to hurt EA if it's this gens' consoles only. Ya know, looking at BF3's numbers and all.

I want to, I really want to stop supporting EA but more Battlefield 3, Crysis 3, Need for Speed Most Wanted and SimCity are just too damn tempting

BF3 Premium and MoH is not a problem, both games sell well enough, both games are cool.

I think there's no doubt that next gen consoles will get some sort of iteration of Battlefield, it's simply the fact that if it were to be a launch game (assuming it is if Beta is near) the install base of the next gen will not nearly be as high as the current consoles. So they would either lose a lot of money not capitalizing on the current install base, or lose some probably not as much money making another installment so soon on current gen platforms, not to mention a lot of series dilution.
Then again, this is EA so there will most likely be another Battlefield on these consoles before the next ones come.

I've done this a couple of times and I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course, I'm in GAF discussing gaming news too even if I'm not posting anything.
Honestly, I did this a few times and sites just cited GAF as the source. That's more on the individual posting the news than the site itself. Sucks, but that's how things are today. It;s also natural to feel peeved when something like this happens. =)
How is this a BF game every year? Are we getting a BF game this year that we all don't know of? Way to foster discusson on GAF.
I honestly agree with some of the statements shared above. EA can't segment the BF fanbase by giving a current and next-gen version. It's not even a given if people will double dip even if they have both generation of consoles. People will likely flock to the platform they're friends are playing on.
Honestly, this is so obviously real that I'll actually go and do that.
