New PS3 Model pics leaked

Microsoft has been in a better position to drop the prices of their SKU's for some time, they haven't because there was no concern Sony were going to lower their prices.

I wouldn't make the mistake of assuming Microsoft could not, would not lower their prices as well to retaliate.

i am not so sure that MS wont lower their prices too with some new model.... i doubt they are doing nothing.

We know they are planning a $400 Halo 4 unit for November and it was not a new model. They could change their minds on price but no new model this year.

I was literally going to buy a slim because I feel like its time for an upgrade, but this is ugly as sin. They couldn't just make it shaped...regularly? It's not like looking ugly is part of the cost cutting.

Yes, the original PS3 is still the ugliest.

Lying down doesn't show it's best side, granted. But standing up hides the bulk and showcases that beautiful glossy curve. It's possibly the most beautiful and most ugly console, depending how you position it.

or try cleaning it... reason it is so loud is because there is so much dust inside that almost no air reaches cpu so fans are running at max to try to cool the cell.

try vacuuming at lower settings and see if that helps... if not, look on the internet for guide how to clean it up. Because if you dont, it will break for sure.

You've really got to crack the PS3 open to get the dust out of it. The vacuum will only get the dust at the vents.

Whilst I think the price is too high, that bundles pricing could be justified by enough fans because what you get with that is a 320GB HDD, 2 controllers, Halo 4 game and a custom console design with blue leds.

My point being that we cant dictate whether Microsoft will lower the price of their standard SKU's based on the advertised price of a special edition SKU.

Microsoft are not in a position where they need a new revised 360 at least not yet, they could very well lower the price on their current 360S models.

Everyone is speaking about the design, but how is the flash memory going to be after inserting a HDD? As one bigger partition or as 2 separate ones?
Are there any chances for it being separate? I'd prefer it that way, so I'd install the game/-s I'm playing the most on it, and the rest on the HDD...

Thanks. I'll try that.

To be fair, did anyone take that back?

It is ugly. The original PS3 is better-looking, but HUEG!!1!

The industrial designers at SCE lost the plot pretty hard.

Lightning PS3 would like to disagree.

I remember everyone calling the original PS3 slim a fake as well because of how ugly it looked. People will get over it. This looks good imo, apart from really riding the old grill jokes home, I welcome gloss returning.

It's ugly and inconsistent. the dust magnet sides and then the ugly 80's looking lines on the middle.

I'm requoting this for people panicking about how how bad it looks in those photos.
Okay, i made a top view

Yeah I'm waiting for decent quality photos because I don't want to eat crow off of bad cell phone shots.

It does amaze me in this digital age many times leaks come in the form of TERRIBLE cell phone shots.

Is there a visible eject button on the shots? I don't know if there is, or if I'm seeing the shape because it's there in MYE's photoshop. :p

What I want:

16gb - $149-69
250gb - $199
500gb - $249

Price drops all around.

What my gut tells me will end up happening:

16gb - $199
250gb - $249
500gb - $299

Increased value of models with a new model at a new lower price point.

Though I could see them doing the former if they really want to steal Wii U's thunder.

There does seem to be one in the original shots, which begs the question of whether the sliding door for the disc access actually is motorized, which is admittedly pretty cool and possibly cooler than the slot-loader in my opinion. Otherwise, if you slide the door open yourself what the hell is the eject button for? I'd guess it's still actually a hinged swing-open door for the disc access, that would explain the button better than a motorized door (which would, IMO, be more prone to failure than a regular slot loader mechanism). Unless, of course, I've missed a post in this thread that confirms the sliding door.

The original FFXIII console was beautiful, but the coolest console yet was the Yakuza 3 fat. So awesome.

The MGS4 console could've been cooler, had they made it more sci-fi-ish instead of just giving it armor. =/

The top view makes it look so ugly. Otherwise I like the front view. Not a fan of the "grill" look in the front.

The top is definately a sliding door and the eject button probably lifts the disc off the tray so you can grab it.
But the problem I see is what if your console sits in a cabinet and the top is close to the PS3 top? Do you have to pull the whole console out to change the disc?
I hate this new design and there is no way the PS2 and PS3 designer is responsible for this.

Do people here play games or stare at their hardware?
Seriously, I can understand people want a good looking piece of hardware on their shelf but the thing doesn't look ugly, it's ok...

Yeah, I'd think price, power consumption, heat, noise and reliability are more important than if something looks subjectively better than another edition.

Its the first pics that came up on the net that scared people. It really wasn't helping, the thing looked like an old dusty 90's audio system.

Still looks inferior to its predecessor imo.

At least for me its pretty clear that the ribbed surface is to hide the inevitable scratches produced by the sliding cover. Kind of ugly, but necessary.
