Sega: Sonic Racing 2 launching in November. Internet: WII U NOVEMBER LAUNCH?!

Yea I think late Oct will be a great time, mid Nov right before black Friday would be too late. The market is way different from when Wii and GC came out.

Nintendo cant afford to have to WiiU coming out after AC3, COD:BO2, and pretty much every other big game. They need to get the WiiU out before that big rush or those 3rd party WiiU games are gonna struggle. Get it out in OCT. people will get the early games, then they can gradually release WiiU games thru the end of the year, instead of bringing out a bunch of games at one time, a lot being late ports.

The WiiU is gonna sale great on black Friday rather it comes out tomorrow or Nov 18th, so it would be best to get the WiiU out earlier to get those early sales from the hardcore then on Black Friday get sales from the big shopping crowd.

Exactly. Get it out early so 3rd party games can flourish without Nintendo overshadowing them and AC3 and black ops 2 can launch day and date. Then launch NSMBU the sunday before black friday and go crazy

November is the logical release date, but for some odd reason I can't shake the feeling that WiiU will be in October.

october launch with zombi u, rayman legends, and nintendo land

november has nsmbu, sing, and wii fit u

december has pikmin 3

other multiplatform games come out when they normally would.

game and wario in january, p-100 in february, and then drought from 2013-launch of the last console.

I have a feeling a big, unannounced first party title will launch pretty close to the launch of either PS4 or Xbox3. Retro's game, maybe? Who knows :)

We're making a "launch window" title and I still don't know the WiiU launch date yet. I doubt anyone outside of Nintendo does. So take everything with a grain of salt if it isn't official.

I would assume it's before black friday, but that's just a logical guess.

History says November.

But the smart play would be October. Would Nintendo really want to launch Wii U right alongside CoD and Halo?

Well considering Wii U is basically confirmed to get Call of Duty as well it could work. Too bad MS has that advertisement contract locked up

During E3 coverage on G4 there was an interview with someone from Ubisoft about AC3 and he said (I'm paraphrasing), "We'll be launching on PS3, 360, PC, and Wii U on October 30th".

I'm inclined to believe that it was a slip-up, but maybe October makes more sense with all the other AAA games coming out in November.

They can put the Wii U on the market whenever they want, there is no competiotion with the others. Wii U is a different thing.

LOL

well this sucks, you are working hard on a game and still have no clue when you can target it to launch.

so all games are "Launch Window" thanks to Nintendo secrecy

You'd have to be crazy not to think there is overlap with hundreds of devices on the market. Not to mention the launch of the iPad Mini which will be this holiday's gift of the season.

The Wii launched on the last Sunday before Thanksgiving, 2006. This would allow Nintendo to get Black Friday sales and thanksgiving family gathering buzz behind the system for the holiday. That Sunday this year would be November 18th. Which, coincidentally, is the same date that epic mickey 2 got pushed to during E3, and I'm of the opinion that there's a special version for WiiU. So that's the date I'm planning my review coverage around this fall.

Take that for what it's worth.

Thanks for the insight. Out of curiosity, if Nintendo called you with an earlier date (September or October), would you be ready? We (the public) haven't even been shown package designs, been told the price, etc. So since there's a lot of unknowns, I consider it unlikely. Just curious. During E3 2011 when they said "after the fiscal year" (April), I had expected it sooner than November. The silence since then and now recently has me thinking Nov 18th.

I don't think you can draw any kind of conclusion from that but it's going to be November,

GameCube: November 18, 2001
Wii: November 19, 2006

Done.

The Wii was a huge success and the shortages increased demand, with it being the hot new thing. So they might very well incorporate that strategy. That's the safe assumption and my bet, but I think it would actually be a better move to launch earlier with less units than planned. That way 3rd party games are worth buying and they can move console inventory as and where needed in November. Darksiders and Madden are August (?) so those will already be old. Hell I'm already seeing Darksiders ads and they don't mention U at all. But AC3 is Halloween, and that's a pretty big deal.

New consoles are almost always hot anyway and Nintendo has a loyal fanbase. And regardless, all consoles are hot when the holidays hit. Seems like they'd benefit from having a free holiday push coming soon after launch, should they choose Sept / Oct.

Just for the curious:

NES - October 18, 1985
Gameboy - August ??, 1989
SNES - August 23, 1991
Virtual Boy - August 14, 1995
N64 - September 29, 1996
Gameboy Color - November 18, 1998
GBA - June 11, 2001
Gamecube - November 18, 2001
DS - November 21, 2004
Wii - November 19, 2006
3DS - March 27, 2011
Wii U - ???

Oh, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II is November 13th. Still an "assumption" than a guarantee that it's coming to U, but that's not a game they want to be late to the party with either.

why do people keep thinking pikmin 3 will not make launch? Surely if its a Wii game spruced up, it'd be fairly easy to get it for launch. Just assuming they'll launch with Mario and then spread their first party out a bit?

I want Pikmin at launch..

Good thing Nintendo isn't a teacher. "Class, there is going to be a midterm soon. Get ready for it, and I'll let you know the date on the day of the exam. Make sure to bring your Sword of Kings."

Yeah. It's inconceivable that they would launch after November 13th. Looking back at their previous launches isn't relevant. And AC3 is October 30th, so they might as well launch before that, too.

the first 3DS games came out before the system launched, and that wasn't the first time that happened either. AC3 could come out on October 30th and we could still have a November launch the following Sunday or something.

the only time this was normal was this gen. last gen the ps2 hit in october, the psone and dreamcast launched in september, the n64 launched in august, the saturn launched in may.

I actually managed to get mine a few days before that though, since TRU decided to break street date.

I bet most people buying those games on launch day won't be amused at the notion of waiting weeks to actually play them. An October launch would be a smart move.

Yeah I mean if it launched in September and we don't know the release date yet it would be like pulling a Saturn.

I dunno how you can refer it to pulling a Saturn. Nintendo has launched consoles in September in the past and its the beginning of the holiday season. Also there arent any other looming consoles on the horizon this year.
