All the stages in the game are incredible, and I quite literally laughed with glee when I fired up Parappa's level 3. Game's really good.

And on the sixth day the LORD David Bowie created man and woman in His image. And he saw that it was good. On the seventh day the LORD created videogames so that He might take the bloody day off for once.

So a few things I learned from playing, mostly as fat princess.

1. People should learn to block/dodge, and attack afterwords. There is a good delay for capitalization after the oppenent finishes thier button mashing. Its a lot more fun when you do that too, as it adds complexity to the game.

2. Combos don't seem to hard to pull off, but they do take some memorizing. I've been doing a lot of Down triangle > square > square > up triangle as fat princess. I never feel like it was too hard to input, like I do pretty much every single other combo in fighting games.

3. The white glow around the characters are crucial. It means you could die and lose a point around any of them easily at any time because they have a special ready. Stick and move is the best way to deal with them, as in try to run in and hit them with a finger on the roll and run away after you do. Many specials come out super fast in this game.

4. I haven't found a circle move worth a damn on any character yet. They all come out very very slow from what I've seen. Need more practice to say more on it though.

5. I love the background work they've done, but its near impossible to follow it when you are playing the game. Things like the hydra head and hades attacks that that in the background is really hard to avoid since you kind of zone them out. They should really put a foreground indicator for every hazard IMO.

6. Its hard to recommend using anything more than level 1 supers. The bar fills more slowly between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 so you get like 4 or 5 level 1s for every level 3, and for people like Parappa a level 3 can only get 3 kills. But I do wonder if super meter requirements for people like Parappa are different and maybe its more balanced than I thought.

This game is soo much fun. Love using Parappa and Kratos the most, and Sandover Village is my favorite stage. This is easily a day 1 buy.

I would say more if I wasn't on a phone :p

Or just PS+ you know, their premium service. Mind blowing that this is for random people instead of PS+ subs.

This is most likely a small scale beta to test out things for the large North American beta for all ps+ members on what should be Aug 7th.

Oh I do have +, well I had, it expired like 2 weeks ago but I got a couple of free month codes so I might use those.
Edit: nvm just found out the PS+ trial codes require you to enter credit card information and I sure as hell wont after the PSN incident.

Oh and this is probably already confirmed, but I learned that taunts do not gain super meter. The only guy that can get super meter without combat is Parappa as far as I know.

Yeah I feel that Fat Princess's circle attacks don't seem that great for FFA at least but I think they really can shine in 1on1.

It's VERY likely it will be next month. Hong Kong just got it a lil early.

I would also like on that list if at all possible.

I didn't see this thread before posting in the other, my bad!

Character Impressions

Radec – I went in wanting to love Radec and came back very very happy. Though I have a lot to learn, his moves are just so fun. His sniper is as useful as you think it is (very) and is great for building meter. I find myself wanting to play him every match! His down triangle fires off a little grenade that rolls infront of you and is great for mind games. I combined that with his sniper to keep enemies at bay that were drawing close. His forward square combo is excellent for keeping people away as well. When used in the air, the attack is simplified to the final part of it with huge knockback. Radec’s neutral circle fires missle that is essentially a sticky grenade. Very long range, fast, and strong when the grenade explodes, another great move. Radec’s neutral triangle is a good quick burst of shots that’s good for keeping foes at mid range. His down square attack drops a grenade and backs off from it and is good for dealing with foes close to you. His down O Is a flamethrower and that’s good for meter building and getting clumps infront of you as well. Out of all the characters I know the most about him so feel free to ask any questions
In concerns to supers, his level 1 is a good challenge. Easier to get a single kill with it, but two is manageable. Getting 3 kills with his level 2 takes good timing but it’s very satisfying when you get it. His level 3 is very empowering and a huge killer, easy to clear the screen.
Radec is slow though, when fighting up close he does have some problems, you just gotta know how to set people up with him.

Sly Cooper – After playing as Sly initially I tossed him aside. I didn’t get a good grasp on any of his moves and I didn’t like not having a block button. But after getting used to him, I found him to be quite the powerhouse. Though after playing as any of these characters I’ll tell you I think they’re my best one haha. So Sly had some good decent ranged moves with his cane. His ground pound attack with it was very fast and strong. His down square swiped the ground all around him and knocked over foes. I loved using that when surrounded. Sly’s dash square attack can combo as long as there is room in front of you and the person you’re hitting, making it extremely useful.
Because I am unfamiliar with the Sly games, bear with me on his triangle and O moves. I mostly stuck with the square stuff because I liked it, but his down triangle was a teleport that was kinda useful..His forward triangle was great. He would quickly dash towards foes in a ball of electricity, nailing them and closing in. His O moves were weird, various electric paths and tossing out a clock that would stun people. I occasionally used the clock but it has a fairly slow release.
I did not feel like I had a disadvantage with Sly not having a block. One of his O moves puts him in a barrel that blocks projectiles, I rarely used it, but it’s there. I mostly liked being invisible because he is actually pretty hard to see! His super jump combined with being invisible is great for avoiding supers.
Sly’s level 1 super has his pall Murray bound out and kill anyone he hits. Quick move, great move even. There are some situations where you need to use Sly’s level 2 jet pack, just because of how people are spaced, but I mostly stuck with his level 1. Sly’s level 3 super ensured 3 kills most of the time. I don’t think I ever got more with it but I saw people that did.
Sly, all in all, handles very differently from the other fighters (I forgot to mention he is a fast little bugger) but after learning his moves a little better I grew to love him. Great level 1 super, better fighter!

Kratos – It took me awhile to figure out how to play Kratos. He has an attack for seemingly every distance and angle. When I had trouble controlling him I realized it was because I can’t remember how to play God of War haha. He seems to play and feel just like he does in those games. His square button controls his chain attacks. Fun for keeping enemies tied up. Very frustrating to get caught up in. His air up square spins his chains all around him and is a good meter builder. His forward triangle charges with a shield and spear great for when you want to run up to an enemy. When used in the air this attack is a bunch of quick stabs with the spear, one of my favorite Kratos moves. I feel like if you like GOW you will like playing Kratos. His O moves can be used for stuns, and stage recovery which is nice. Neutral O is a bow and arrow which can be pressed rapidly to gain meter and acts like Fox’s blaster in Smash, or charged and acts more like Falco’s blaster. To which I mean one has slight knockback and the other doesn’t. So Kratos can do some damage from a distance.
Kratos’ supers are hard for me to land, I’ve seen players do much better with him than me. I’m getting used to the timing of his level 1 but I’m probably not the best person to ask about it. His level 3 is sick. You have a good chunk of time and with skill can get more than 3 kills. During his level 3 he has energy blasts and standard sword swipes.
All in all, if you like Kratos…You’re gonna like Kratos!

Parappa The Rapper
- You gotta believe!...Sorry. Parappa says a lot of fun lines. My favorite being “P to the A to the R to the A!” When you select him. Parappa’s moves revolve around getting in close and whaling on foes. His punches are allocated to the square button. Many people will use his neutral square fists of fury attack. It gets a lot of hits and is a good move but I don’t think it gets as much meter as people think. With Parappa I try to utilize all the directions of his square attacks to beat up on foes. I especially like his up square uppercut to juggle people. His triangle attacks with his skateboard however are strong and do build meter well though they are harder to land. A common strategy is to use Parappa’s neutral O to grab foes from a distance then wail on them with the attack of your choice. This is very fun to do and you feel strong doing it. Parappa’s down O launches a boombox that spews AP orbs…It isn’t that great. Parappa isn’t getting much out of it/anymore than anybody else haha. But sometimes you can get that little extra bit of AP that you need. Parappa has a side O move that launches him toward foes for a single almost dinky hit. Good for recovery and getting close, but only scrubs use it to build meter haha.
Parappa’s supers are where he shines. I find them to be extremely balanced. His level 1 is a short range kick that can easily get a foe and sometimes more with proper timing. But that is difficult to do. I love Parappa’s skateboard, but people are getting better at dodging it (especially if you’re Sly) and his level 3 is the easy instant kill.
Parappa is definitely one of my favorite fighters so far. He packs a punch and is just such a fun fighter! You gotta believe!

Quoted because of length haha

I have to say, air dodging out of a super is an amazing feeling.

So im getting more into blocking and Dodging specials instead of running from them, one thing i noticed though about blocking in this game, is that when the camera zooms out far you can rarely see if your performing a block. Cl0ckwork if you see this please tell me if is there going to be a better visual effect for blocking?

So, after three days, I have to say that this game is virtually flawless. The core mechanics work great. I once again have to complain that the biggest issue is visual indication of super meter levelling and visual indication of your character on screen. Improve both of these and this game is really solid.

I know most of you are still getting into it, but I'd love to hear criticisms and thoughts. I'd also especially like to know your history of fighting games/SSB experience.

Got a PM from Clock. Waiting for the e-mail, at which point I shall join in thine smashing of brethren.

Congrats, dude. It seems like you've been at the top of the list forever.

It seems like people really like to spam Kratos's hammer, which I find insanely easy to avoid. Unfortunately I guess other people don't, and that just gives kratos far too much super meter to keep up with. It really sucks to loss to a spammer that you never even fell victim too.

The other spam favorite is the Radec snipe move which would be easy to avoid one on one too, but that one can easily hit you when you are busy with another player in FFA.

Yeah. One guy was just spamming kratos's hammer move all match.

WOW! Played a match where Two Radecs got to the opposite ends of the levels and sniped together. They kept juggling me and this Sly player, who was smart enough to go invisible and sneak closer to one of the Radec's. It was the Metropolis too, so the level was flat

All these new players and their Radec sniping is driving me nuts lol.

What do you think of this: spamming an attack should lead to reduced AP to the point where you no longer gain AP for spamming the same move ?

Same. Like i said check your PMs
I see nothing!!

Edit:

Heh it looks like Ed Boon is getting hype over the beta too.

Maybe Scorpion did make it in :O
If Scorpion is in, they may as well throw in Ryu.

Then we can have Scorpion vs. Ryu vs. Heihachi. Though, I would have preferred Jin instead of elder Mishima, even if it makes sense Heihachi is there considering his legacy in Tekken and Playstation.

With over 20 characters in the game I don't think this will be a issue in the final game. :p

Kratos level 3 super last too long imo.
