Is it still fan art, if professional artists are drawing sketches of stuff they are fans of?

I see a horizon that wildly shifts behind one of the characters, a male hedgehog in a shade of blue that does not exist in the natural world, dressed up as a woman, propositioning a human child with two left feet for sex and the biggest problem you see is that the character appears to be naive?

The only thing missing from that picture that would make it a singular image representing the horror of this thread is if Sonic was also pregnant with Tails and visibly had a penis. And the male character was from Dragon BallZ, had a robotic arm, and Obama was in the background watching while a pony version Mitt Romney snuck up behind him dressed as Sephiroth.

So... actually a lot is missing, I guess...

But does the artist understand that it really seems like the female Sonic is offering sex to the guy? Is it just a really naive guy trying to replicate innuendo from bad fifties comics without having understood it as innuendo? Do I want to know this?

EDIT: The house on the right isn't on a different plane, it's its left wall compared to the left house's front wall. I think.

The artist says that Sonic's disguise is taken from the episode "Sonic is Running" of the old cartoon from the early '90s. He also places the picture in the "Crossdressing and Gender Swap" section of his deviantart gallery.

Hedgehogs have retractable penises, so a transvestite hedgehog could conceivably seduce and have sex with a child without the victim being any the wiser.

I may have spent too much time thinking about this.

This one more saddens than disturbs me. It strikes me as art by someone with unresolved and insecure gender identity issues, someone who probably needs a bit of help and guidance.

Either that or just another fucking nutjob Sonic fan.

Ah, but the utter crap is the point of this thread. There's a lot of bad fanart, most of it unremarkable at best. And then there's the awesomely bad fanart that takes bad above and beyond so it actually becomes interesting. Hence the quotation makes around "awesome" in the title. Because these... things... are truly awesome in the classic sense of the word: They inspire awe.

It does amuse me that it's kind of (d)evolved into a My Little Pony vs. Sonic the Hedgehog bad fanart contest now. Although I expect Sonic to take that fight.

That's the much more likely source of this madness. I don't think many of these Sonic fans have unresolved issues since their community is actually kind of large. There's entire websites for people like this, and it is the secret, hidden 10th level of Hell. Trust me, any issues they have are not unresolved and they are definitely not insecure. They're out there writing erotic fanfiction and announcing their engagement to Sonic.

There have been several fan art threads, and they usually have really good runs. Here's the latest I have in my subscriptions: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=431635 Actually a lot of really awesome stuff in there.

This thread, however, is for "Awesome" fan art. Note the quotes. It is for fan art that is creepy, scary, bizarre or just plain awful. It's not even about the crudity of the drawings, it's more about the subject matter being completely insane.

I can understand why you'd be confused, it happens all the time. It's actually the Bad Fan Art Thread.
