Edit: is alien breed the same as the PS3 version, or an enhanced port of the Amiga version? Both are tempting - loved the Amiga version back in the day. But if the PAs3 version is completely different I might buy both

Exactly this, though the original version is also included from what I understand.

What's the best Kairosoft game? I loved Game Dev Story and Hot Springs Story...never finished them though.

In my humble opinion:

Absolute best:

Game Dev Story
Grand Prix Story
Mega Mall Story
Epic Astro

Very good:

Edo Towns
Players Academy (or whatever the soccer game is named)
Venture Towns
Dungeon Village

Seriously? Are they claiming it's universal and then just running the iPhone version x2?

Thing is, while I didn't try it, I would bet its a TRUE x2 compared to the Ipad x2 that isn't exactly a x2. This would mean your image would stay clean and sharp, no added blur.

They're all incredible apart from Bug Panic which is an original iOS game rather than an arcade conversion.

Dodonpachi series: vertical, control a spaceship shooting other spaceships.
Espgaluda series: vertical, control a winged angel. Kind of set in an Ancient Rome time.
Deathsmiles: horizontal, control a witch. Has a gothic/horror setting.
Bug Princess: vertical, control a character on a dragon? Shooting insects and bugs.

Dodonpachi Ressurection and Deathsmiles are my favourite. But Deathsmiles has a very low res look to it.

Would be interesting to hear if that's the case from someone who has it. If it's not TRUE x2 as you call it, it's quite deceptive to call it universal.

Dungeon village and astro story are the best mechanics wise. But if you are into the topic, the games will be double as fun. (for me that would be gp story and the soccer one).

22 hours later (in 4 days! scary!) I completed the Hunters 2 campaign.
I really enjoyed this...and now I'm very attached to my team, which I'm now using in the daily contracts hoping to improve their skills.
Last chapter forced me to change (several times) my tactics and talents.
If Hunters 3 will have a longer campaign with more dialogues and cutscenes and possibly more environments, it will be even more awesome.
The gameplay part is perfect IMHO, wasn't too bothered by the 'impassable' teammates...forced me to place and move them very carefully (expecially last 2 chapters and some VERY difficult contracts).
I really love the art used in the game...if they manage to put out a compelling world/story/rich lore could be really really great.
It's quite an achivement IMHO that despite the lack of lore and the very generic background, I feel attached to each one of my team and their very distinct capabilities, much more than more famous RPGs characters.

Really looking forward what they have in store next...according to their site they should announce it soon for early 2013.

I'd say DoDonPachi Resurrection, even though Deathsmiles is my personal favorite.

As an aside, I can't ****ing believe they didn't put BP Black Label on sale too. Seems pretty douchey to me.

I bought Hunters 2 ages ago and agree with pretty much all of what you said. However, I did feel really short-changed by the campaign. Considering GBWG offers a 50 mission campaign in addition to skirmish mode and multiplayer, the paltry 7 chapters in Hunters 2 is really frugal.

Well, as for value I played MUCH LESS many 360 games I bought for 50 dollars or so...so I'm not really complaining (I understand what you say and the absurd AppStore economy...I wish the campaign story was at least 'completed').
I do not know how long it will last but now I'm enjoying the daily contracts much more now that I have completed the campaign...really looking forward to get more talents and create some powerful gear.

Did you reset the campaign? I'm a bit scared...I'll retain my men, experience and everything right? Does it get (even) more difficult? (because last missions were really hard...I didn't grind though).
Tempted by the hardcore mode too, but it seems impossible to me without having an immense pool of credits to enroll new mercenaries (plus I hate the idea I can lost one of my men forever).

Tunesmith

formerly "chigiri"
I think its just iphone x2 with higher res text
It's x2 with the new font rendering technique making fonts render natively.

On another note fuck Junk Jack, started it up again after a little break and the game tells me my worlds which I spent hours in are obsolete and needs to be deleted/have to start from scratch with absolutely nothing. Game Deleted.

What's the best Kairosoft game? I loved Game Dev Story and Hot Springs Story...never finished them though.

If you loved Hot Springs Story you're gonna love all of them... There are two kinds of Kairosoft games, and I rank them this way:

Menu based

Game Dev Story
Pocket League Story
Grand Prix Story

Building/Grid based

Dungeon Village
Mega Mall Story
Epic Astro Story
Oh! Edo Towns
Pocket Academy
Hot Springs Story

Depending on what playstyle you like you might prefer one game over the other.
Haven't played Venture Towns or Cafeteria Nipponica yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like the latter a lot.

Loving this. It's kind of cool seeing how your games (and art style) have evolved from Wispin to Bring Me Sandwiches to Super Mole Escape.

Thanks a bunch dream! We've actually made a conscious effort to change up both the genre and art style for every new game... though at some point I'm sure we'll have to revisit something we've already done, ha. We do already have our fourth game coming before the end of the year, and that one is yet another completely new type of game for us! :D

But yeah, we've definitely also learned a lot along the way! It's fun to approach each new game with new experience and insight :) Thanks again for the kind words!

Does it now? You got my attention...

Well, I should qualify this by mentioning that it is an endless runner and if you're not a fan of that genre, Super Mole Escape probably won't do much to change your mind. But if you do enjoy games like Temple Run and Jetpack Joyride, Super Mole Escape is just fantastic. The controls are excellent, there are tons of characters and powerups to unlock, and there are a lot of little things that make it fun, like dynamic goals (a la Jetpack Joyride), bonuses based on collecting different types of gems, etc.

There's also online multiplayer, which I haven't tried yet.

Autumn Dynasty is awesome. Pics don't do the game justice. You can't tell it is a real RTS from the pics on the game page.

Also, just saw the Wild Blood trailer Gameloft truly has no shame. Now it's time to rip off Darksiders!

So after sticking with Happy Street for a week or so, I definitely think it picks up quite a bit and the pay wall seems to lower as well. I'm really enjoying the game now, I definitely feel like the number of activities you can perform when you check in increases to the point that you've always got something to check, if you so choose. I seem to be waiting about 2 days at the most between expansions at the moment, but I've got a steady supply of premium currency coming in without buying it.

I convinced a few friends to play and friended a bunch of people from forums/gamecenter (my s/n is Hawtpants if anyone wants to add me) so there's a few Flooz, I seem to have problems logging into Facebook on the droid version but there's Tapjoy for that. I'm playing 2 different versions of the game at the moment, but I wonder if cloud saving could let you transfer your data between ipad/droid and use tapjoy as a way to make some extra flooz.

After playing the Fortune Wheel you can figure out the pattern (there seem to be 2-3 different spin speeds) and get better at stopping the wheel, I seem to get a free flooz pretty often at the 2 slowest speeds. The hammer minigame doesn't offer flooz but you can easily max out your coins by stopping just before it hits the bell.

Lucky spin is always good for at least 1 (although I got 15 once on my phone) flooz a day but unfortunately, I seem to always be short on blue dye to make extra lucky spin tokens. That seems like a pretty good way to get extra flooz as well.

On top of that, if you're diligent about crafting random stuff you don't need, you seem to have the required items for Pepin's deals more often than not. I seem to get pretty lucky with flooz rewards for my excess apples and logs. I just wish he'd take my piles upon piles of bird poop!

Anyway, collecting the random items for crafting is really addicting, and hopefully they'll add more crafting recipes. I wish there were decorations you could add to personalize your village that didn't take up horizontal space, as well. One thing I really do like is all the random hidden things you find, like taxicabs you can stop at your village, carrying a rich traveler who will buy a ton of stuff, or a construction vehicle that will lower the build time of something you've got under construction.

The game definitely reminds me of animal crossing. I've been sending blue crystals to random people on my friend list, in the hope that I'll get a red or yellow crystal back. Sometimes I'll send random cakes and food, just for fun.

Anyway sorry for my mini-rant, I'm just really digging the game lately. I haven't bought any Flooz but I would definitely consider making a small purchase at some point to support the developers, but only if they raise the exchange rate. 5 bucks for 50 flooz isn't that great considering the price of the premium items.

What do yellow and red crystals do?

You need all 3 crystals to upgrade the Friend Hotel (3 of each for the first upgrade) but each person only gets 1 color from the sacred rock in their Forest. The others have to be traded with friends to obtain.

Between that requirement and the fact that you get 3 flooz a day from visiting friend's villages, it's lead to me adding more friends than I have for pretty much any other time management game I've tried.

Mobile Fifa is still running on PS2 engine, so that's pretty much what you get (+ touch controls).
It's a lot better on just about every other platform (including PC Free-to-play version).

Took me something like 5 1/2 hrs. I saw someone earlier mention 4:07 or so, and another one at 7+ hrs.

Very fun game. I hope the dev updates it with more content. Though sadly it doesn't look like it's gonna receive much attention from the dev since it's a 1 man team, and his wife just gave birth to their first kid.

Right, so it seems there's no point in fighting it: I'm addicted to Happy Street. Still early days, but I can see many hours being lost to it...

I have a grand total of zero Game Center friends, so I hope you kind folks of GAF don't mind if I add a few of you that have thrown your names forward.

(I'm still not sure how the 'friends' thing works as a game mechanic, but I'm hoping it'll make more sense when I have some!)

Please feel free to add me, too - user name is 'oipic.' (yes, with an all-important dot on the end).

Went on a bit of a spree lately. I picked up Mincraft, Cthulhu saves the world, Great Big War Game, Spell Sword, and Ski Safari.

I haven't tried Ski Safari or Cthulhu yet, but Minecraft is a lot better than I expected. I was concerned because I know it's missing some of the crap from the PC version (My beloved creepers!). Overall it's pretty much Minecraft on the go, which is awesome.

I'm a huge survival mode fan, and it's nice to scratch that itch wherever I am.

Spellsword is really cool too. I was a big Muffin Knight fan, and this just adds a more RPG bent to it, while really kicking up the difficulty eventually.

I'm really hyped to try Ski Safari. I've never heard a bad thing about it.

WOW, didn't really expecting this but after completing the campaign I'm immensely enjoying the daily contracts in Hunters 2...even more than the campaign itself.
Some contracts are really awesome (and HARD)....really tense moments.

If only they could license Alien (the first movie).
I already imagine a big campaign set in the Nostromo and some unknown uncharted planet...

One thing I love among the others is how well animated are the men and how they reacts to the bullets (every single one is traced).
I wish there were more death animations and dead corpse postures (they did a great job with blood tough, taking into account even the deadly threat incoming direction)....critical special animations could be great too (like a zoomed in headshot for the sniper, a vaporizing electrocution from the plasma and the like...).

I know it isn't the most efficient team, but loving the assault rifles and every bullet traced, I'm playing now with an all assault rifles team...incredibly fun :)

Last summer was FFT summer for me, this is certainly Hunters 2 summer...I'm sensing I'll sink even more hours in this (surpassing the 50 hours I put in FFT, Midnight dungeon included).

Great game IMHO...can't wait to see what they havd in store next.

Well, I definitely don't begrudge you enjoying the game as much as you seem to be, but I ain't seeing what you're seeing. I do enjoy it a good bit, but it gets pretty samey pretty quick. The mechanics I had a problem with from the start are still an issue for me now, and I have my suspicions about that game timer. I know I haven't played no 13 hours, and yet that's what the slot clock says.

Either way, if you dig this, then you should really enjoy that Ghost Recon game (the one that launched with 3DS) if it ever does come to iOS. I thought it was a really solid game -- had its issues as well, of course, but it does a lot more right than Hunters 2 does in my opinion. The missions are far more varied, and the mechanics are more practical and up to date, and it's just overall a more interesting game. Of course, it's not completely a fair comparison, as it's obvious the developer in this case still have the mindset of "mobile," whereas the Ghost Recon TBS game is more console-quality.

Heard it was supposed to get ported over to iOS, but I haven't heard anything else about it. But if it does ever release, I recommend it to you as a day-1 purchase.
