Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

I just really can't get excited for this game. The gameplay Wu posted looked really boring to me. Really the only time I get a little excited is when I know there is a new trailer that I can watch right now.

Using Storm Rifle as a secondary with fire power quickly became my go to. The thing shreds people, so useful to switch for close range. Used it a lot.

Could see that working well with Dexterity to sweep house.. When you say close range though, what's your measurement of it? (If you can, put in terms of something like The Pit spawn to Shotgun or something..)

Thanks btw, only other person who gave an automatics impression was heckfu.

Either way, seems like a pretty bold statement considering the wealth of seemingly better Tactical Packages that you chose Firepower to use a Storm Rifle for. The only reason I'm so interested in automatics is because they're just fun as shit to spray mad bullets into people, but when they're so "less-useful".. what's the point? lol

Storm Rifle is a beaaasttttt. I was rolling people with it + BR.

Good to hear! Hopefully it won't turn into the Beta Plasma Repeater ;b

And to be fair, there may have been effective anti vehicle weapons and tools at my disposal, but I did not understand the sandbox well enough to find or utilize them.

In my full write-up later, I'll go into full detail, but my largest concern about the game coming away from this weekend is the global ordnance system, particularly in games with banshees and tanks on the map (we discussed this a bit on Friday and I think we're essentially on the same page).

Dexterity is really good to have, especially on the smaller maps. I'm not sure I could accurately give you a close range based on a previous map, so I don't want to try to (and give you a false impression), but we're not talking having to be right up in the guys face (although when you are people just get mowed down). I was talking to David about it, and he was saying then even as you get out towards medium range (still on the closer end though), feathering your trigger a bit helps and ton and is still very effective. I wasn't really doing that and I thought it was very effective. The clip/overheat for the Storm Rifle is quite shallow though.

Better than invisible walls out the ass or high points that are abusable.
I find invisible walls preferable, and abusable spots are always capable of being Forged out. I hated the sense of limitation that those soft kill zones gave me, not to mention the number of seemingly arbitrary spots there were for them. Killed my sense of creative map use.

Nom nom nom, just got to play 5v5 CTF on exile again. Got some folks to capture all our perspectives and Duncan is going to compile into one big video when he gets home.

The only time I've seen a return to battlefield barrier so far was in a CTF demonstration where a dude flew the exile Banshee above a rock fixture close to the top of the canyon. Nowhere near as prevalent as reach if only due to better map designs taking it into account, it seems.

Why you so bad at BF3 though?

:p

Agreed.

I played on pc and thought dice had enough sence to have good controller support, but no, I only played about 100 games... and running... running, then getting sniped on those insanely big maps.. got old quick so yeah I was bad... lol

So is Exile/Longbow considered as "big" maps by 343? Like, are these maps we'd see on a Big Team Battle playlist?

I honestly think it's safe to say all the maps we've seen thusfar can be used for BTB. Thinking about it, that's probably a good thing for BTB since Haven and Adrift are two of the smaller maps in Halo 4.

lol'd irl.

Stay classy Yu!
Haha while waiting in line for H4 we got to watch some new Gears gameplay and whenever anyone died we would just yell that at them.

Game over, they got so nervous the rest of the game!

And when I say whenever, I mean we did it like 3 times.

I didn't get to play on Longbow, but based on what I've heard about that map, and my impressions of Exile, I think they are maps that you will see in BTB, but they won't be the "true" BTB maps. These are kind of the hybrids that you will in 5v5 objective, BTB, and possibly slayer. I think there will be a couple massive maps just for BTB though.

Were they playing that Overrun mode? Looks pretty damn fun.

I have yet to see a "small" map in Halo 4

From Wu's post about our GAF vs 343 games:
to be honest, HaloGAF rolled over the devs like a Hummer over baby rabbits

You have done well.

I think Exile's a mid-sized map by Halo 4 standards. It might just be because I haven't played it yet but I personally think it "feels" the smallest out of the 4 by far... very claustrophobic and it doesn't help that there's all those vehicles. Kinda reminds me of Standoff Heavies. I would say so far it's something like this, from smallest to largest:

1. ?
2. Haven
3. Adrift
4. ?
5. ?
6. Exile
7. Longbow
8. ?
9. ?
10. ?

And then the three Forge playspaces are probably going to be gigantic.

im pretty sure adrift and haven are the smallest maps on the disc.

They are. That's why they were showcased at E3 to MLG while they were marketed as the "smaller competitive" maps in Halo 4. Maps aren't going to get smaller than that and in my eyes, 8v8 will be perfectably playable on Haven/Adrift.

Looking at this CTF, you pretty much need a long-range style of weapon, DMR preferably with the 3x scope. The shield perk seems like it would come in handy for all the long-range battles, since the things that beat it(grenades/melee) don't come into play. Pair that up with faster shield recharge(half of which will be behind the shield natch) and dexterity, and you should be good to go.

Not bad. Not 100% but decent guess. Literal size and navigation speed affect that ratio a bit.

Just like Reach.
Yeah, that game we all play and watch all the time.

Reach sounded like halo throughout, because they have the best... this does not.. it sounds too different ...I thought they would make there own sounds for the guns they made up... not completely change everything.... for things that have had a pacific sound for 10 years. It sounds like something I'll get bored of hearing after a half a day. Also glad to see thruster is pointless now... going in third person for 2 seconds...I thought I remembered it being in firstperson.. :|
They were mostly made in Washington...

I feel about the same, except is Longbow really larger than Exile? Longbow seemed pretty small to me...

Hawtdamn there will be more maps bigger than Longbow?

That would be cool if some of these maps were large enough to section off portions better suited for smaller games like what PDZ did.

Didn't they confirm Haven is the smallest map in the game?

Longbow isn't actually all that big.
