I've started to read GAF via 3" toughened glass and projected tyre-on-a-rope. *watches*
"Look man! I'm not going to fall for bananas in my tailpipe!"
I wish I knew what a 4850 was
Enough about teraflops. Imagine an Advance Wars RTS on this thing! Nnnnnnnnggghhhhhhhh!!!!
Someone finally translated the article for us, and based on the translation you can ignore that meaning something.
Wait...wat
1) Hate something.
2) Find reasons to back your hatred.
3) News comes out that eliminates your reasoning.
4) Find new reasons to back your hatred, or magnify the importance of the remaining reasons.
5) If you are unable to find reasons, express general disinterest without reason, or troll through made-up reasons to satisfy your hatred.
Call me a prophet when this happens.
Oh man, it's going to be one hell of a week.
Drama, rage, nuance, action, bans, even more rage, epic posts, hope and Reggie.gifs.
A typical GAF week I suppose
I think he just ment that there would be more games available, which could lead to more interesting games (this is of course subjective). How do you mean with "already purchased" by the way?
From Microsoft, most likely graphics, all-around box (media capabilities, stuff like that), Smartglass (use any tablet, no need for a special one) and Kinect. For Sony, most likely graphics, all-around box, long cycle (10 year plan). Not sure about anything else.
Ok I didnt know that game had All Stars in the title, so i was wondering which game that had "FA" shortening.
Hating on a console in the first place is strange to me. Naturally it can be discussed around how good/interesting a system is, but i dont understand why a gamer would hate more choices available.
Im sorry for not knowing but when exactly is this conference again? Date and time?
I think it works for any form of hate, but the general context is gaming.I'm lost at the first point, we are talking about console gaming, hate?
A console that still is not for sale?.......
Hate it's a serious feeling that deserve more important matter.
Sep. 13th, New York. Not sure what time.
what you really think Reggie gets WiiU all to himself this month?
I'm just asking for my Nintendo Direct, I am more interested in JRPGs and crazy nutty Japanese gaming - (trying not to think of the region lock)
If I remember right it was AMD's first teraflop (by AMD's measures) GPU.
I always ask if we know anything about a region lock and never get any replies
It's still conjecture right? We don't really know, just because of 3DS?
Nintendo would get a very angry letter in German, English and Japanese if true *fighting stance*
All consoles becomes more and more PC like indeed, even the WiiU. Before consoles were pretty much "insert game and play". Today, all consoles have more and more features besides playing games. The OS, easy-to-use and being a closed system will still differentiate them from PC.pc.
sounds like a pc.
Well it's weird, last gen;
DS - Region free
Wii - Region locked
So either we'll get a switch, or more likely they've adopted a new policy
Note that right after the DSlite, the DSi, DSiXL, 3DS and 3DSXL are all region locked. Sounds like a new policy to me.
Haha lol no worries. Also so many others like StreetsAhead post here so there's a few candidates.

Should be fun!then we have a very short wait for TGS!!!
How did you start gaming exactly? Because I started gaming because of my mom and grandfather and their favorite game of all time, Mr. Do for the Colecovision. This, followed shortly thereafter by the likes of Pacman and other early arcade games and the Activision game line on the Atari made me a casual gamer.
To say these games are overly complex would be a downright lie. They are simplicity with huge leagues of depth, as they steadily become more difficult as you keep playing (a concept modern games really don't seem to grasp too often). They prepped me for more.
Then the NES came along, and so did Super Mario Bros. It was a step up from these older titles, for sure. But a HUGE one? No, because I had been prepared. And with that, I was officially an enthusiast gamer.
My story is not unique, it's how almost ALL of the enthusiast gamers of my generation came to be. And we are no small percentage.
So when my generation hears that "casual gamers don't usually become hardcore/enthusiast gamers" like you just said, we laugh, because we were the ones who got our parents to buy an NES and actually SAVED the industry from collapsing in on itself.
To the original point, Wii Sports' #1 failing was that it was simplicity without depth. Was it fun? Yeah, absolutely, but there is very little that one can build from the experience.
NintendoLand seems to be the game that does what Mr. Do did for me... take something simple and give it enough depth and progressive difficulty to build into enthusiast play.
I always liked the weird idea that they'd include some sort of StreetPass capable NFC tag. You know, a small device you put on your keychain. You'd use it to log into your Nintendo Network account, but you'd also carry it with you at all times, StreetPassing with other Wii U users. You could also use it to buy DD games in shops. Buy the game, hold your keychain to a NFC reader, and the purchase will be tied to your account. Your Wii U at home wakes up and downloads the game, and it's there and ready to go when you get home. Would also be an amazing marketing tool.
Huh?

well better start writing those letters, you know its locked don't dream otherwise
I think once MiiVerse makes it to smart phones, they might include some StreetPass functionality for users. You'd assume that a smart phone app would include eShop access for downloads. I believe Iwata even said this feature was coming as an investor meeting last year.
are you guys having other project 4 the wiiu and others platforms
Macarony64 2 weeks ago
We have Splot coming up soon-ish for iOS/Android and then later for computers, and if Trine 2: DC launches well on Wii U then Splot is a good candidate too, and maybe some other consoles... After that we will focus on our next big project and we don't know the platforms yet.

Heh didn't even realize, that would be funny (and almost the better option, win all around would be to revoke 3DS region lock at the same time).
They cracked Wii like 1 month after I got my jWii...having two softmodded Wii was a bit silly but one was essentially used as a karaoke machine x.x

Although this comes from google translate. If anyone can offer a better translation, here's the raw quote:
"Diana氏は,「Wii UのGPUの詳細スペックは開かせないが,確実に言えることが1つだけある。それは,PS3とXbox 360,どちらのGPUよりもパフォーマンスが高いということだ。詳細スペックは,時が来れば明かせるようになるかもしれない」と自信を見せていました。"
After rewatching the Nintendo Direct E3 episode, I don't think there'll actually be any smartphone apps. As Iwata explains it, Miiverse is web based, which is why and how any device with a browser will be able to access it down the road - but there won't be an app, so no StreetPass or anything.I think once MiiVerse makes it to smart phones, they might include some StreetPass functionality for users. Thank you.Roughly:
"[Even though WiiU specs have not been officially revealed, there is one thing I can say for sure. That is that the performance is higher than the GPU of both the PS3 and the 360. Maybe after some time the detailed specs will be revealed.] he aid, showing his confidence"
i think wiiu has the possibility of becoming of a really badass karaoke machine

so it is banana meet tailpipe...I am not fooled!
keeping hopes low, at GTA V U levels

Yeah really hope somebody like Joysound puts a good program on Wii-U, the Wii version used only midi sounds or something like that (I think it was also their cell phone build) but apparently the PS3 got one with mp3 quality samples. Not too sure about putting lyrics on the tablet (even though possible) but putting the interface there, letting people select songs without disturbing the one singing would be great!
Compared to what we saw on Wii, I've been imagining a lot of things on Wii U hardware.
Nothing wrong with that, but based on what we know my belief is that GPU7 is ~614GFLOPs. With the gains in efficiency and newer features in a 2011/2012 GPU vs a 2008 1TFLOP GPU, along with optimization and better utilization due to one set spec to develop for thanks to the console environment vs the PC environment, then I see what I said as being very plausible.
signed. even though i think putting lyrics on the gamepad could be big. it would turn the gamer away from the tv screen back to the audience. think about it.

But at the same time, this Miiverse system is a web-based system, and you will therefore be able to access the Miiverse and see what is happening there from any device with an Internet browser. Because of this, you would then in theory have the ability to, when youre not in front of the game system, be able to see the interaction that players are having by checking the content of Miiverse on a device like a smartphone or a tablet device. And that could become an opportunity for you to learn about a game that you may not have otherwise known about. Furthermore, for example, our goal is that, in the future, you will also be able to purchase games found in the Miiverse from that smartphone or tablet device and, by the time you arrive home, that game will already have arrived on your Wii U system through SpotPass.
okay I'll be a Morning Musume fan if they keep the WiiU region free

Coupled with a good proccesor and ram is a little thing capable to run this at 1680x1050 with frames around 30. Maybe a little less.
for the wii u purposes I think is quite enough and I could gladly take less than that resolution with some current effects added here and there. Wich is what I think we would get.
The next Pokemon game!
I thought Sing Party does this?
one of these reasons why i hated this gen. dumb ass boring and pointless.
What was the incentive to support an unknown quantity like PlayStation? They built the audience on that platform from the ground up with NO guarantee of success. I'd wager there was more risk involved in that move.I agree with you to some extent; I agree that a lot of it has to do with depth.
But look at it this way: How and why would it make business sense for a company like EA to pour resources (money, time, people) into a project on a platform that just a few years ago completely shafted them? Their main profit derives from 360 and PS3 owners through disk sales, DLC, downloadable titles, etc... With such an established install base (which will not likely go anywhere in the next 4-5 years), there is not reason for them to pour their resources into any other platform.
I'm not saying quality titles won't be made for the Wii U, no I'm not saying that. What I am saying is, you can't suddenly expect third-party support to increase tenfold with the Wii U just because it is a new platform. The Wii U doesn't offer any real incentive for them to do so. Sure, the Wii U may sell huge amounts of units. Hell, it may even sell as many as the Wii! But if your potential market consists of people who buy simple titles or are very first-party oriented, then why even bother? If you're gonna produce a quality, big title for the Wii U, you're gonna want to make sure you sell a lot of copies, a lot of DLC, and have the users play your game for a long time. Big companies that produce multiple games for multiple platforms aren't going to pay much attention (relatively) to the Wii U.
But yeah, I really hope third-party support is there for the Wii U. I really do. But you really have to be skeptical about it, because developers have no real incentive to develop games for the Wii U.
By using weaker parts, marketing your console (price-wise) as a complementary item to the PS4 and new XBOX, you're setting yourself up for little support and/or shitty ports of newer titles. We're talking PS2 FIFA 12 v PS3 FIFA 12. We're talking Call of Duty on the Wii v Call of Duty on PS3. We're talking... you get the pattern.
I still think the Wii U should have gone with better hardware.
