I dont at all care about Metroid and not all that keen on Starfox either. All I want is the new 3d mario and Zelda and a NEW IP, or at least something like Luigis Mansion. New fresh idea, even with old character/s. That and 3D donkey kong (64 sequel). Will be dissapointed if Retro is working on anything else.

I want Battalion Wars in legit RTS style, without individual unit control, with about 10x the scope (hundreds of troops rather than dozens).

With a TPS camera (RE4 style, as in the exploration phases of Other M), gamepad as scanner, a lot of outdoor alien location with a little bit of a creepy/horror taste.

Wouldn't bother me since Other M played up the horror elements quite a bit. I'd personally prefer wiimote /nunchuk controls with the game pad as sub device to manage her suit's systems or provide a link-up to her ship.

Bear Link? What a wacky idea to wake-up to. I laugh, but I like.

I wonder what power-ups or abilities he'd have..

You guys wanted to know about post launch games, here it is!!

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...prentice_heading_to_wii_u_in_wait_for_it_2015

Edit: Oh and another one! Don't know if either of these were posted yet. I've been kinda absent lately. This one coming from supposed High Voltage employee HVSBob on GameFAQS, so you know it's bullshit, but it doesn't seem like there is much else in the way of news.

Question: OMG I love Conduit so much!

Answer: That’s not a question, but thank you! And we haven’t forgotten about Conduit over here, either. I would expect some new Conduit-related news before the year is out.

I agree with the second paragraph. I read someone claim that GDDR5 is 4x as expensive. Don't know how accurate that is but seems reasonable. Why did you choose 500 Mhz as a theoretical speed for GDDR5, though? Even the chips embedded on the low power e6760 run at 800 Mhz...

It was a hypothetical, so I was really just picking arbitrary numbers to illustrate my point (which is that there's more to RAM than just the type).

Maturity, bitches.
Sounds unbearable. Can't believe Nintendo will try to paw this off us a good idea. They're clearly pandaing to the wrong audience and it's just going to polarise the fanbase.

Well Metroid Fusion sets up that
the Federation aren't against using Metroids for their own ends, which could easily paint them as a sinister corporation/set up an experiment gone terribly wrong. Imagine a Metroid infested Federation facility.

Actually i would love to see the Federation have a cloned
Mother Brain, where the last surviving X Parasite escapes and infects her. There should be all the evolutionary Metroids and Zebes enemies and such!

Iwata: "Hello, Nintendo fans. Today I am happy to announce Wii U will launch in period between September 13th 2012 and end of year, at price decided by retailers. Here is new footage of Nintendoland. I am also happy to announce Capcom will be supporting the Wii U with new Resident Evil game, named ZombieZ Party. We know our fans are looking for hardcore games, and like the GoldenEye game, so EA and Activision have come together to port Tomorrow Never Dies to the Wii U. Now we close with footage of new game, Panorama View. I hope this answer all your questions, thank you and goodbye."

This is so how it's going to be.

Did people not like the Prime series? I thought it was a brilliant way to bring the games into the 3D space after a long absence, and showed up Nintendo by being a Western studio and making a better game than EAD/Team Ninja.

How did it "show up Nintendo" considering how much Nintendo worked with them on the game and forced Retro to make many changes from what they wanted, because it was turning out to be a bad game? Heck, it was Miyamoto's demand that the game be made first-person since third-person just wasn't working out, and the team lost people over that decision.

I'm sure this has been mentioned a million times before, but do we know what time the conference this Thursday will take place? Thanks.
6:30am Pacific Time, 9:30am Eastern

Edit: I was basing that off of the time announced for the Nintendo World Store in New York's streaming of it, they must be taking a half hour to get ready for it or something.

And Apple's going to announce their new game console on the 12th to try and cover up any Nintendo excitement :)

So less than 3 days to go?

This time around they'd better deliver, although I reckon they'll leave something - like Japanese third-parties support - out until Japanese conference/events.

Speaking of which, upon having a look at their booth's map, I gather we can definitely assume Square-Enix is going to show DQX for WiiU at next TGS.

If indeed Retro were supposed to show something at E3 2012, that was pulled, that something might have just been a CGI teaser or the like for a project 12+ months away. Hence Nintendo's reason to pull it, and wait until a later date.

I've always said there was no way we were getting something from Retro last E3, but no one in the hype threads wanted to listen. I always said, wait for E3 2013, and I stand by it.

I dunno. We yet to get a post-Fusion game. She's essentially a fugitive now.

If anything, post-Fusion is in a good position to open a brand new Federation free adventure. One driven by Samus alone.

She's not a fugitive, I really wish this way over reading into the ending of Fusion would stop. Besides the fact that I really can't see Nintendo making one of their main characters a fugitive.

Expecting post fusion game to involve a Samus Aran that is a fugitive is 1. reading way too much into the ending of Fusion and 2. expecting something from Nintendo that they aren't going to do.

Everyone is setting themselves up for major disappointment.

I could see this happening

Well Metroid Fusion sets up that
the Federation aren't against using Metroids for their own ends, which could easily paint them as a sinister corporation/set up an experiment gone terribly wrong. Imagine a Metroid infested Federation facility.

LONG before Nintendo would make Samus a fugitive.

In regards to a new Metroid game from Retro, I would hope it would take place other than the already squeezed to death time between Metroid I and II.

Is that Twitter page going to be streaming the conference live too? I just want to know where I can watch this thing.....

To me it sounded like there won't be a live online stream, only following their updates via twitter. You'd have to go to the NYC Nintendo store to see the stream.

Sorry to bring this back up, but I was hoping someone would try to convince me that it is true.

I rather enjoyed the first game and would love to see a third one on the U. Does anyone think there is even a chance that there is some credence to this?

So what kind of stuff do you think they will announce for 2013?
Launch line-up is OK AFAIAR, but how about 2013?

Besides I reckon they should show/announce something to hype people up before next E3, even throw out just some title screens or a short sizzle-reel.

Ok if you don't like it, but "ugly mess"...... is too much ;)

EDIT - Why a "Bear Link" and not an "Hairy Zelda"?....... ops......

I'm guessing Tentalus got burned into his mind. That thing looks just ridiculous in the stupidest way imaginable. Hideous. Tentalus and Ghirahim are the only real problematic enemies in Skyward Sword. The rest is totall fine.

I agree with EC that when people say they want Prime 4, they basically just mean a game in that style...

the Metroid story is a mess to me now. I really think it's time for a reboot. Almost every Link and Zelda are different in the Zelda games, its a recurring Legend with only the tiniest threads of continuity connecting them all... Mario is Mario, you expect Princess kidnappings and you don't really care. Metroid has started to write itself into a corner.

She's defeated Prime three times, invaded the Pirate homeworld with the GDGF, defeated Mother Brain, saved the last Metroid in captivity, supposedly killed all other Metroids (several times), she's been on a horrible adventure with Adam where he and everyone else gets killed in a GDGF conspiracy (and some nonsense about an angry female AI), she's been infected with Corruption, infused with Metroid DNA, infused with the X-Parasite... where does this friendless, parasite infected mess of a woman go from here? And how can we keep explaining the loss of her powers and resurgence of Pirates/Metroids?

It needs a genuinely clever, well-written sequel to these events, or they need to just disregard everything prior and do it over - the way they always try to approach Zelda: a clean slate. I'd honestly prefer the latter as it gives them more freedom to surprise us.

As I see it, the only way of keeping up with the Metroid franchise without screwing up the canon or making a reboot would be ditching the Castletroid structure itself (either in 2D or 3D) and go for something different. A prequel of Samus' training or adventures (as shown in Other M flashbacks) before acquiring the Power Suit would be a good starting point. As for something post-Fusion, first person horror adventure could work.

Pretty well. It's been a summer of overtime and Mario. Starting to get more excited. :)

My Summer's been intense gardening and Rayman. The latter has actually hyped me up a bit. Now that I know that Rayman games finally control well*, I'm pretty pumped about Legends and I may even buy that mobile game, limited as it may be.

That said, I'm really hoping that the $250|300|350 sku rumour is true. It's the last hope for my getting a system in launch window.

If you're going to ditch the structure that made a series compelling in the first place, wouldn't it be better to just make it a different series?

That was just them playing around with it in terms of what the hardware can do. Don't read too much into that (yet).

Yeah, I think so, in fact I don't think handhelds are viable for FPS - to clarify, I'm not saying they should not bring any FPS on 3DS, only that that it's a genre that makes more sense being played on PC/home consoles.

Having just finished reading this and the previous page of this thread, can I just say that Metroid: Other M is nowhere near as bad as is being made out. It's not short of frustrations and its treatment of Samus' character (and how she's 'allowed' to use her weapons) is painful, but once you're used to its control scheme, it's a lot of fun to play and deserves credit for trying something new in fusing 2D and 3D gameplay, even if it doesn't always work. I even like how it handles themes of motherhood and surrogacy, even if the plot is ridiculously back-ended in terms of massive lumps of exposition coming in the final act. The linearity isn't great, but the way the game gives you loads more to do once the story is finished, culminating in a secret boss, is terrific. Not to mention Anthony Higgs, who is so fantastic he deserves his own spinoff series.

In short, it's a perfectly solid 6/10 game for me, and I'd love to see a second game in the same style with its predecessor's problems ironed out. People expect perfect first time out (partly because Nintendo are known for being adept at delivering it), but I see Other M as a game full of potential, even if it doesn't always achieve it.
