Top gun is amazing, I initially disliked the Japanese doll.

Really? Apart from bringing bad luck to her friends, Yui was alright in my book. Hell, she was downright awesome when she talked smack to Yuuya. I'm not liking her much in this
lovestruck phase
though. She's lost that cool edge that made her appear more in command and with a plan.
Yuuga has become better for me, though he's pretty slow to catch on things. I don't like how he doesn't act like a smartass right away when he should, like with the Russians that
tried to rape the white haired duo
and their assholish commander.

I don't think she's
simply lovestruck.
Between Yuuya and
the proximity of live combat
, the steely exterior that Yui has formed around herself is melting away to reveal the incredibly damaged girl from episode 2.

The end result is the same, and I do prefer hardass Yui, but I think it makes her a more interesting character overall.

I didnt like how she treated Yuuya over the course of things, however am glad at how things are progressing with them.

I think Stella and Chobi are the more all around better female characters in it, and I guess, Cryska too.

Gunslinger Girl 10

In which shit begins to get real.

Crows ruin everything in every show.

Two conflicts run through this episode: the obvious issue of the
murder of Elsa and Lauro
and the rivalry between Section 1's traditional intelligence department and the cyborg-focused Section 2. Though Section 2 has had some obvious successes, it's a pretty experimental outfit, and it's implied that any sign of difficulties could lead to the entire program being scrapped. This adds a lot of tension to every scene.

The Section 1 investigation isn't really about the incident itself; it's about discovering how these cyborgs operate. So each conversation is working on a lot of different levels. I like how this episode moves between the events in the investigation and the offices of Sections 1 and 2 as they make decisions about how to proceed. And everything leads to answers for both the main mystery and the secondary concern of why the start of the episode happened.

For me, the key to understanding the murder lies in a few scenes. Fermi confiscating Elsa's picture that she treasured, the conversation about the two bullets that killed Elsa and Lauro, and most crucially, the scene of Henrietta photographing Giuse and Jean. The way the act of taking that picture was framed likens it to a sniper firing a bullet; the relative silence of the scene, the intense closeup of the "trigger", the camera pulling out when the shot is taken. I was trained to anticipate the sound of a bullet being fired even though nothing in the writing hinted at that in the slightest.

I think all of this leads me to conclude that Elsa killed Lauro and then herself, which is corroborated by things like the way Jean talks about their "eye" as a weakness, or how he repeatedly restates that she died protecting Lauro.

I'm curious how all of this shakes out.

[Gunslinger Girl] - 10

Well that escalated quickly.

It was pretty clear from the first time we saw the crime scene that Elsa had killed Lauro and then herself. Lauro never took the time to fully understand his charge and this error, in the end, was fatal.

True, there could be some other explanation for their deaths but the fact that they occurred off-screen gives you a pretty clear indication about what happened to them. If they were killed in some gunfight than the show would be perfectly happy to show us that event occurring onscreen, there have been plenty of action scenes in the show so far. The fact that we don't see it happen helps to point us in the direction of a murder/suicide. I thought it was pretty ballsy that, at no time during the episode did they actually 'flashback' to th event.

And what of the Social Welfare's Agencies reaction? They obviously moved to cover it up, for their own good. The fact that we got to see another agency investigate the SWA helps with the world building of the series as a whole.

Interestingly enough the fact that this case hasn't been completely sown up by the conclusion of the episode has made this one of the longest running story arcs in the entire series
.

There's lots and lots of other things to talk about, direction wise, but sadly I do not have the time. I never even touched on the fact that Guise has taken Henrietta on a romantic cruise.

I made sure to write my post before reading yours, and I'm glad we reached the same conclusion. I agree that it was brave of them to keep things as ambiguous as they did. I really appreciate how subtle Gunslinger Girl is, in how many things it's willing to state implicitly and not explicitly. It's a rare trait in anything, especially anime.

I don't want to read too much literal meaning into Giuse and Henrietta's cruise (I'm not sure how much of their time off is planned by others), but at the very least it definitely is meant to represent something about their relationship.

Using English titles outside of conversation is silly.
Well they have all 3 titles in their database, the idea is that using the English titles in an English speaking site as the default display makes more sense as it makes browsing easier for the bulk of the userbase too.

Good episode, fleshed out Katou a bit more.

And...

go Bossun! I foresaw Bossun stepping up at the end there. His realization of what he did was even better. Lol, suspended for two weeks.

Sket Dance 75

Emotional, intense, and even hilarious at times, all for our friends.
Katou Tsubaki and Bossun were great, and that powerful punch at the end from Bossun was shocking and amazing, wow

Symphogear's art director is a gaijin?
Thomas Romain has worked in Satelight for ages now. There are quite a few European foreigners in their art department actually. It's interesting.
Yeah, it is not only one man rather than a whole group! As the very same Thomas Romain (thomas) said, by Satelight's France Design Team (that I mentioned here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=39361771&postcount=432) have passed many notable names like Stanislas Brunet, Yann Le Gall (Icaras), Eddie Mehong (didi), Christophe Ferreira (Buta), Bertrand Piocelle, Antoine Birot, Anais Chevillard, Philippe Diop & Romain Barriaux, having collaborated in practically all the recent works of SATELIGHT Inc., in one way or another.

Also, Mr. Romain (https://plus.google.com/photos/104379489189811288070/albums) is himself a collaborator and regular poster of CATSUKA FORUM, where he has contributed with excellent material including his own, Mr. Le Gall's (https://plus.google.com/photos/105579351901721170395/albums) and basically all the team's work, featuring spectacular design concepts and layouts, mainly in the thread from the following link. Please, check it out on its entirety, because is all brilliant work on their part:

Of course, as a former student of GOBELINS, l'école de l'image, Mr. Romain also participated in one of the promotional videos for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival as openings for each of the festival's days, what is now a tradition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5rBhmYXEJs). That's hot.
His two and a half car garage was full of boxes too. lol

When he said it was his 401k though, that was a bit scary. But hey, if it's worth 300k, why not I suppose.

These guys have crazy collections. lol
The other dude on this episode had a huge BSG collection with 50-60k and it also filled up his garage.

The Doraemon looks out of place lol. I guess he counts as a mecha cat.

Promo pic of the EVANGELION JELLY™ and SPOONS™ last show on pics of the EVANGELION CAKE™
Japanese fans never get enough of Evangelion merchandise. The latest Evangelion-inspired product produced by Premium Bandai, Bandai's official online store, is a set of six spoons featuring the angels (No.3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10) on the handles and six cranberry-flavored jellies shaped the angel's core. The angels' faces are also featured on the lids of the jellies. The store has started accepting pre-orders for the set for the customers in Japan today on September 13. The retail price is 3,980 yen (about US$51.18).

Shoutout to Articalys for pointing this out.

At least the merchandise is getting creative.
And I would totally buy this too

I love my government's compulsory savings scheme for working people. Nice amount of savings over the working years will be available when I retire.

Oh wow, Madoka Magica international movie screening announcements!
The staff of this year's two Puella Magi Madoka Magica films announced on Thursday that the film will open in 18 cities in eight countries and territories between October and December. The eight countries and territories are the United States, France, Italy, San Marino, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
They're also going to slightly modify the key visual for each region, it seems, though they've only released the United States version so far... (lol)

Both Smile girls lost. What an outrage.

R.O.D. OVA 2

This would be a thousand times better if Yomiko had died in the first minute of the first episode and Nancy was the main character.

What the hell?

Yomiko Readman is the definition of awesome.

What the fuck?

She's horribly pathetic and whiny and annoying, 99% of her dialogue is whining "the book, the book..." while whimpering around and being generally useless. Everything she does just oozes pathetic.
