Wii U Thread - Now in HD!

So instead of HW talk lets talk about something refreshing.

GAMEPLAY IDEAS!

Super Mario U:

You have a level in 2 different dimentions. On the TV you see the dimention you are currently in and on the gamepad you see the alternative dimention (Same camera without mario)

Anything you do in the dimention you are in changes the other dimention, and you can instantly see it on the gamepad. So you need to do something in one dimention to clear the way in the other one. So puzzles where you need to coordinate 2 dimentions.

You can switch dimentions any time.

Pare this with some great Jump and Run and Super Mario U

What would you like to see from Wii U gameplay?

I worry this will never happen though.

Feels great to be back! My post might have gotten lost in all the commotion, but is the below a possible slogan going froward for the WiiU?

I really hope not.

P.S. I'm excited for the less-tech, more-everything-else future for this thread.

Hey Skies, did you get my PM?

I completely agree, the tech talk was overshadowing everything else.

I think it's going to be "How will U play?" Which is what they showed on the nintendo direct.

Okay, I actually just pre-ordered a base pack Wii-U on a whim. I realized that I needed something new to play this cold winter and am able to snag a 20% discount so I thought why not!

Can someone link me to the best and most comprehensive video of ZombiU and The Amazing 101 out there? I'm going to try and cast away my shackles of Wii-U negativity and finally open my eyes to the awesome.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I pre-ordered my system on Friday at my usual place. Put down $50. Plan is to wait it out and see if any better deals, like bundles and price drops, crop up. If they do, I'll pre-order that system instead, and swap my original pre-order to a game (maybe Rising). No better deals, and I'll just stick with the original order and pay it off at launch.

Almost thread worthy, if Nintendo can get you back, they are onto something :p

Question, the 9mm audio jack on the Gamepad, is it possible to have all the game audio to come out of there or is it just for voicechat? Because that would come in very handy where I live.

I imagine it would be possible for all, but that's just a guess.

ZombiU Walkthrough by Satoru Shibata from EU ND. It's the most recent video. There are more details scattered throughout tons of walkthroughs from E3 or PAX or Gamescom but this is neatly presented.

length: http://www.go nintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=184060 roughly 15-20 hour campaign

additional stuff:
- there's a new game plus mode (survival mode) which you have to finish with one single survivor
- Wiimote IR aiming only in the local multiplayer modes for the FPS player
- Stealing look from your online friends' survivor is actually stolen. If you get to the zombie first for the mercy kill, you get the gear.
- Your former survivor does not show up on your map but you get alerts where your friend's survivor spawned

We don't know that yet.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
So after last weeks conferences and news, are people more hyped, less hyped, or about the same?

I'm personally more hyped. Price is about what I expected, but Monster Hunter basically made Wii U a day 1 system for me. Along the same lines, I'm relatively optimistic Japanese support will be pretty good, which is very important to me. Plus Bayonetta 2 of course.

Still a bit surprised at the lack of Japanese 3rd party announcements. Tecmo Koei seems fully on board and of course there is Monster Hunter, but I'm still expecting some more announcements.

Hey guys, I really want to pre order the Wii U but I got distracted by the iPhone 5 hype. Is there any places that will be taking pre orders within the next month or so? I remember when the PS3 came out, Toys R Us did pre orders after everyone else did their normal pre orders. I'm hoping that I can still get one at launch without having to camp out over night.

I'm more excited, but not for the usual reasons. Black OPs 2 was a rent for my 360 until the 23rd, where it became a personal killer app for me on WiiU. Bots (and online) play with dual screen multiplayer is just fucking amazing, and it gets me giddy at the possibility of this becoming a WiiU standard (gaming industry, please bring back bots). Nintendo TVii and the internet browser really got me believing that Nintendo is taking the social and online side of their console seriously, which gets me (cautiously) excited. Both the browser and TVii was surprisingly robust and something I would actually use pass novelty, which is always nice. Monster Hunter Ultimate is potentially exciting (depends on what my internet connection is like at release), but I can live without Bayonetta 2. Both were very surprising announcements though.

I'm definitely more hyped and I think everyone else is too, Nintendo really needed to hype the Wii U at the September conference and they did.

So I guess this means...Can we forget E3 2012 ever happened?

Man I can't wait until the first visually impressive game is shown for the wii u
Once Microsoft and Sony start unveiling their respective next generation consoles, I think it would be wise of Nintendo to show something that doesn't look like a "simple" Xbox 360 port. And with visually impressive, I assume you mean something that is packed with things like displacement maps, high resolution textures, tessellation, maybe even some clever use of high quality ray casting (if the Wii U can even do that?) and not only good design (see Rayman Legends)?

Im definitely more hyped after TGS.
Honestly, Nintendo should have taken the best bits from this year's TGS, the last two E3s, and combined it into a stellar E3 2011 presentation (with a lot of "future" videos like the bird demo to hype up the graphic whores) and TGS 2011 conference with actual facts, as well as a release in 2011.

Drawing it out like this over two years was a bad move.

I would imagine since you can play certain games on the GamePad without the tv , the headphone jack is there for the game audio.

About the same. 3rd Party seriously turned out weaker from Japan than even the West, which is concerning, but I need Monster Hunter. Like, I reaaally need that game. Also, I now kinda believe them that more game announcements might come before March (which is still an idiotic strategy), but then Pikmin and W101 seem to be pushed beyond launch window in EU and that isn't exactly relieving.

Post full of stuff

Thanks for these. TA101 looks fantastic, but i'm not 100% convinced on ZombiU yet.

I did really get a great horror/survival vibe though, but I really want to know if the controls are any good and how the gamepad mechanics turn out in the end.
Also i'm curious about the replayability. I see most survivors in the videos not making it past 10 minutes before they get eaten, woudn't that get annoying because you're not making any real progress?

Yea...rayman is gorgeous but not at all impressive...in fact I can't wait to see a 3d title that matches the best of the hd twins...hopefully by next E3

Hype is the highest it has ever been for WiiU, two months before release, not six months before release. Could you imagine Apple revealing the new iPhone six months before actual release? It's a stupid strategize, always has been (IMO).

2011 release would have been nice, but that would have had to been something put into effect a few years ago. The WiiU as we currently know it would not have been ready, and/or would have had little support ready for launch in 2011.

My hype is extremely high now with the announcements made at the Wii U event. Monster Hunter Ultimate and Bayonetta 2 are huge for me. All I wanted was some additional Japanese games and Nintendo delivered that in spades as far as I am concerned.

It's disheartening to see the general lack of enthusiasm from the gaming press though.

I agree that the Japanese 3rd party stuff quantity wise is lacking right now.

But, MH 3G HD and DQ X at or near launch is a very positive sign for the future.
