Wii U Thread - Now in HD!

When I get a wii U I want to go all digital download, as I am getting older and learned from this gen that buying every single game and not completing them all is a huge waste, downloading the ones I really want is a much better route to go down, and all digital feels good (long as nintendo have things right)

I would love a red console too, I already own a red wiimote plus and controller pro, be a while before we see that.

It is, sadly. Glossy controllers make no fucking sense.

Yep. I don't know why they don't make it matte. The classic controller pro for the Wii (and I'm sure the Wii U's) did this and you have to keep wiping it after every use really. They did the same thing to the Wii motes. I keep the jackets on those though because it feels better and it keeps from getting too many prints on them.

Looks like they used the same materials they did to build the original Wii controllers and consoles. Not that I agree, but that would explain it.

Also, Penny Arcade's D&D idea is awesome.

Just a heads up to all your who preordered a Wii-U through Gamestop. Starting Monday they are giving you an Extra 30% on anything traded in towards a Wii-U...

I was going to trade in my old 30 GIG iPod for $50.00 today and was alerted to this. If I wait for 2 more days I would get 65.00 for it. It's been sitting in a draw for years now so might as well get something out of it!

Me too. My gaming collection is HEAVY, and I'm tired of the extra weight and bulk when I move. Been converting to all-digital with my movies to lighten the load, but it's slow progress. All-digital really appeals to me.

I'm looking at my black Wii pro classic controller right now. Naturally, the glossiness looks nice until you tilt the controller a bit and notice the fingerprints, smudges, and dirt all over. I really want a black Wii U, (doesn't hurt that the deluxe edition is a better deal anyway) but I won't buy one until I can see both colors up close in retail demo stations. I don't know, if I can get my hands on my dad's usb portable hard drive, then I may consider getting the white one.

Retro working on Yoshi's Island would make a lot of sense, considering that they're capable of resurrecting old 2D platformers.

Please let this be so, I've been waiting a very long time.

Those a**holes didn't give me a heads up... Damn, I only got 10% on top of my rewards bonus...

...

Just wash the damn thing!

Pass a tissue over it or something.

NO! Fingerprints are still a huge problem in 2012 and Nintendo should have recognized this

Plus the console doesn't fit in my designer interior, I mean: a red sync button in the open like that? Come on

Of the multiplats I'm interested in (AC3, TTT2, and BLOPS2) I'll certainly be waiting for the Wii U versions.

Zero interest in Darksiders 2, Mass Effect 3, and Batman.

Oh man, I forgot about Tekken Tag Tournament 2. I also want that -- the crazy power up mode and the costumes look hilarious.

The black Gamepad will only ever look good in pictures.

Oh, Retro is definitely doing Metroid. Bosses, gunshots, "what everyone wants." It all fits.
Yoshi's Island also has enemies and bosses, Retro is also giving Yoshi a gun to shoot his eggs, hand painted 2D texture maps, lead from Epic Mickey. Makes much more sense.

Has there been any info as to if the disc slot will light up like the Wii? I loved that.

Maybe already talked about this...... if not my memory need a format.

Maybe the function of the light (alert for messages) was, on the WiiU, made by the led around the home button on the WiiPad..... so, maybe, no light on the console.

I reckon an interview, possibly with Miyamoto, where it was mentioned that the Game Pad screen kind of replaces the blue notification light in the slot drive. Could just be faulty memory, though.. trying to find it..

I worry this will never happen though.
While I kinda cringed at the "make it an action RPG" bit, I realized that this could make the L4D AI Director like I originally imagined: one player getting to control how and when zombies spawn. Likely need to do it based on points or something, and it may well end up being more a local Versus mode with more power granted to the infected. I guess you'd earn more "points" to spend by dropping health and weapons for the other players to take.

ZombiU.... I played FPS while my wife dropped zombies on the map...

LOL I put down more money on one Wii U at Gamestop than you did at Best Buy for three. Amazing.

The only reason to reserve at Gamestop was going to be for the midnight launch, but apparently the Best Buy that I reserved all 3 Black Wii U's at is also doing a midnight launch. No worries here.

For all you that are reserving Wii U games, is it just out of convenience? I ask because aren't all games going to be available to download anyway, hence making pre-orders kinda pointless?

I don't think the back is but the front is.

How many USB ports does the Wii U have again? I thought it was just 2 in the back, now I'm seeing two in the front.....so four?

No not just for covenience. I'm not sure all third party games will be available for download (I'm pretty sure of the opposite in fact).
I pre-ordered NSMBU, I think this is the only game risking some shortages. And at the same price, I prefer to pay for a physical object I can play a few days before its official release, when the retailers receive it in stock, and be able to sell it later, lowering the whole cost.

1 for convenience, 2 don't like digital distribution, and 3 Pre-ordered DS2 at newegg and got 12 bucks off plus free shipping.

not everyone wants digital games, thats why its an option. But more importantly only first part games are gauranteed digital on release. For 3rd parties, it is at their disccression and up to them. It is not mandatory.

And so far I havent heard any 3rd party retail games being announced for digital also yet.

Has Shockin Alberto already posted if we can hope for some minor Japanese announcement in order to fill his prediction of Japanese support "parity +" compared to the western one?

Alright, someone help me decide what my last launch game will be. I'm definitely getting Mario, Rayman, and Sonic Racing day 1, which should be my 4th and last game? (I may get a 5th as well, depending)

Nintendo Land: best showcase of WiiU features, looks great, lots of multiplayer fun, and will probably the best game to show off the system and will probably be super polished... but I really don't want to spend $60 for minigames. ._.

Scribblenauts: I adore Scribblenauts and this one looks absolutely phenomenal, and I can get it for $40. But then I have 3 2D games for launch (which isn't a bad thing, but it's a bit much)

Tekken: I've never played Tekken and I'm not too good at fighters but the game looks really fun, has loads of replay value, loads of FREE DLC, the Nintendo love (Mushroom mode and costumes) and I may get good and get addicted... maybe

Assassins Creed 3: I've never played an AC game, but I've always been sorta interested in the series and AC3 looks great, and it will be nice to have a big, beautiful, meaty, full game for a launch. But, yeah... I've never played AC before. Is that a bad thing?

What do I choooooose (note, I'll be getting at least Scribblenauts and NL eventually, so I'm leaning towards Tekken or AC but I dunno)

I'm switching to a premium pack I think, it's a good deal compared to the base model.

I want a sensor bar and stands, so if I buy that shit separate I might as well go premium for the other goodies. Not really interested in NintendoLand, but i'll take it.

ZOMBIU
Mostly New IP, Hardcore, good demonstration of gamepad use, asynchronous online like Dark Souls and local multiplayer.
