I don't get it. Someone link me to what this is.
Well I am certainly a gamer, the ad sucks, I don't find it "offensive" though. Not sure how it could come across that way. It's just a really, really, lame ad.
This ad campaign could not be more blown out of proportion if every gaming news media tried. This is a non-issue.
Told you Nintendo has given up on gamers.
This is their new marketing campaign targeted specifically at females.
Problem is...
they've mostly moved on to smartphone gaming.
Who the hell can seriously be offended by this? Are people mad because they don't want "outsiders" invading your hobby or something?

Moved on would imply that they were there in the first place.
Fake edit: Wait a minute, Nintendo has a huge base of female gamers (in comparison), don't they?
First thing I thought of. :lol
Oh they were definitely there. Nintendo expanded a lot of their audience with the DS and titles like Nintendogs, Brain Age, etc which appealed more to females.
People who make threads that intentionally mislead to troll for angry responses should at least be grounds for a loss of thread-creating privileges. It's becoming a very common occurrence on GAF, and honestly I'm starting to lose the distinction between the posting quality here, and that of a place like GameFAQs. It's especially ironic when GAF is so keen to mock Kotaku's reporting ability. Are people really allowing themselves to be offended at a Fox News quality contextual edit of what the commercial's dialog actually says?
For fuck's sake.
nintendo's failure was not making them into longtime customers to keep them buying nintendo hardware for their games instead of doing their gaming elsewhere.
though i do wonder how would they have convinced these casuals to stick around. everyone seems to be unable to keep a hold of them.

I guess watched the ads differently.
It wasn't "I'm not a gamer"
But more gaming can turn me into an artist, an heroic plumber, a warrior... etc
But *Shrugs*

That's what I got from it. "Coin collecting champion" implied, to me, it was more than just gaming to her. Pretty good psych for an ad imo
isn't that the reason they're making this advertisment? This is their new marketing campaign targeted specifically at females.

"I'm not a gamer, and judging from the reaction to this commercial, good riddance"
I should have asked this about an year ago, but I have no idea who/what he represents...
I dislike ads that try to glorify gaming as if it was something you have to totally be proud of and make it noticeable for other people, you don't see cinephiles, people who love collecting stuff or book readers saying how their hobbies glorify their lives and turns them into champions and whatnot (Well maybe book readers do but still), they'll just enjoy their hobby and discuss about it with other people who are also interested just like we do about "gaming".
Someone might direct me to Kevin Butler's E3 2010 speech but I think we all know how his character was supposed to act so while I found it weird and corny at first I enjoyed it and laughed later when he kept going on.
So nintendo finally realised they have lost the hardcore gaming market to iOs/Android. Took them long enough.
J/K. Please don't do anything mean to me!

EatChildren had the good sense to say that people who turn every Wii U thread into a hardware discussion will receive a ban. GAF could be more strict about these things, and it would be better for the forum.

To be fair I don't really like or identify with the label of "gamer" myself
So not really offended
isn't that the reason they're making this advertisment?
NITNENDO SAID NOT GAMER!! FUCK NINTENDO!! Really, way to take ad out of context internet nerds.
