Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Topics that still haven't been discussed:
*Remaining maps
*Another other new gametypes
*Playlist management (not sure if that'd be pre-release, but it would be nice to know beforehand)
*Ranking / Advancement systems, how they work together
*Replacement for arena?

Anything else? I've gotten all I want for campaign, and we sort of know where Spartan Ops stands.

Plus when did the armour start looking so awesome?

Ugh, the LOD range has definitely been extended. Homeboy with the Scanner helmet in the back looks fugly.

Gotta get better graphics somehow. Hopefully next gen will solve a lot of the inadequacies of our current hardware (and not go to a scalable SKU, if I wanted another PC I'd get one.)

He's using the Oculus Rift to play Halo 5; just ahead of the game is all.

Edit: And yea, that confused me, I think you mean decreased LOD if you're saying the game itself is what looks worse. I thought you were joking it had unfortunately been increased and now you could see the ugly scanner helmet more clearly than you'd like.

So are the ridiculously exact shadows a result of bullshot output resolutions or something? Because those shadows look leagues better than any other 360 game I've played.

Extended? You mean decreased? Reach had automated LoD, so I would assume H4 uses the same or improved tech.

LoD algorithms are really fascinating things, if you're into that kinda thing...

I wonder if the next Xbox will have support for dual TVs. Not necessarily for single player (although that could be interesting), but definitely for multiplayer... I mean what graphics card/processor today doesn't support this already out of the box?

Because of all the people that have two TVs next to each other...? Completely unnecessary. Huge resource hog too.

Just reading the Surface thread and it made me think:

SMARTGLASS.

What Smartglass integration will Halo 4 have? Atlas was poop so it's got to be something better than that. Maybe edit movies recorded in Theatre?

Waypoint stat tracking and sharing files seems the most obvious thing that will be implemented. Other then that, I don't see something really major as you pointed out.

It seems like they've completely dropped anything related to tablet/surface/smartglass integration. Since that brief 45 second teaser video from E3 I don't think we've heard a single peep about this idea. Maybe some technical issue that they can't overcome before Halo 4 launch? Or they'll have to wait for the next Xbox?

God, I "can't wait" to see some of the posts in the Halo 4 review thread.

Amazing

The E3 Halo Smartglass clip was purely a concept video, not a committal to having something for Halo 4.

I've been wondering the same thing as I'm looking at picking up a Surface (hopefully) not long after they come out. The possibilities for fiction-integration are very cool.

That would be pretty cool, if it's real. I'm planning to get a Surface when it's released (Looks perfect for uni, IMO) and it would be nice if it made things a little easier (The new Halo 4 MM menus look complicated... I've only seen fragments, but it seems that if you want to do one thing you have to go through menus and sub menus... eh).

Yup, but our backend and services team built that video as a concept for some ideas we are actually working on, so it's actually not all that far fetched.

Im really liking the way the Spartans look in Halo 4, they remind me of the Halo 2 Spartans. Reach's just looked off. They were to fat and the huge ass armor made them look even bigger.

Unlock system. I'm not necessarily expecting details before launch, but I'm very curious if it's going to take me 30 hours or 3000 hours to unlock the loadout I like.

Unlock items include:

  • Gameplay Unlocks
  • Weapons
  • Armor Abilities
  • Tactical Options
  • Support Options

    Aesthetics Unlocks
  • Weapon Skins
  • Armor
  • Armor Skins
  • Armor Stances

That's a lot and I'm curious what the prioritization will be between gameplay unlocks and aesthetic unlocks. I'm okay with working lots of hours to unlock aesthetic stuff, but it's gonna be frustrating to have to play lots and lots before I'm able to hoodwink fools with the hologram.

Are there more skins than the ones we've seen?

I must know. If the 2 per weapon standard that's been shown so far is it, I'll be pretty disappointed.

Well if you compare the MJOLNIR MK V armour that MC wore during Halo CE, it's about the same size as the MK V that Noble team wore. It would've been odd if they had armour that was more [slimmer/moveable (can't think of the word, haha)] than the MK VI

Oh yeah you're right. But I also think that some of the armor pieces you could put on your Spartan were just way to big. It looked bad.

I'm in no way a canon nerd, so someone else might be able to explain away the fat vs agile looking spartans. I agree with you, however, that the Halo 4 player models look much more like Halo art design of the past.

A) Oh nothing there was too "far fetched", especially with the 360 Mobile App providing a useable glimpse of the concept
B) O rly? #kotaku

Just read the Bulletin, loved the OHI by Bonnie, I'm really a sucker for these stories how the progress worked.

Still kind of sad we don't get a behind the scenes DVD, I really loved the Bungie ones.

Flood mode looks really great, love the "Flood" Spartans, but I don't think I will play it.

I dislike Infection and I don't think some tweaks will change it, but who knows, I will try.

After playing the game most of my concerns are gone, still hoping all my favourite gametypes are coming back and everything is fine.

True. Then again, some of the extravagant pieces in Halo 4 don't exactly look too good either.

In simple terms, the MK VI is smaller because it's more advanced. Each variant of MJOLNIR armour has been smaller than the last. The Spartans in Halo 4 are using a second generation MJOLNIR MK VI[?] so they should be about the same size as those in Halo 2/3.

I have no idea what's going on with the MK VII though. Not even sure why they mentioned it in Glasslands. So far it seems to be pretty useless info (I originally thought that MC was wearing the MK VII, but apparently not)

Have they ever said anything on whether drop in drop out Campaign is in there?

Playing co-op with my usual group is so hard without one person needing to go do some family/work/house stuff half way through a game.

I had a statement/kind of question about this yesterday:

I've been thinking about how 343 is going to handle SpOps, since it's serialized. 343 can't really go the same route that was with Reach's co-op voting screen, especially if people can't play an episode on the day it's released or are banking a week's worth to play at once (which is how I'll likely do it). I'd think 343 would have to go with a 'select a mission' setting that, like Gears 3, will just continue on to the next episode without bringing everyone in the party back to the SpOps menu.

Of course, that would suggest that SpOps and maybe even campaign has drop-in/drop-out, which might not be feasible. Looking forward to answers on that front.

Historically, we've been informed that the lock-step model used in the campaign and firefight prevents drop-in/drop out, but it looks like some serious mojo has been worked in this game, so anything is possible at this point.

I love how the posts slow down as we approach the page breaks, lol. No one wants to be the last one. It's like driving and hitting a red light every 50/100 posts.

Edit: I like how this post was the last of a page. You're welcome.

I would bet that Halo 4 has Spec Ops and Campaign that allows players to drop out, but doesn't allow new players to jump in during the game.

And I would assume the pre game lobby / menu would operate a lot like BF3 spec ops (or whatever they hell they call them). ie: You'll enter the Sparty Ops playlist, you'll choose your desired level and difficulty setting, and the game will match you up. Conversely you could choose "any level on Legendary, etc." or "this specific level on any difficulty" ... I would hope they also put in the option to play any level on any difficulty; the "just put me in a damn lobby that needs a 4th" option.

Inspired by the recent picture stories on here (and having my hand forced by a complete outage of my internet services), I played through Halo 3's first three levels this morning. Beam rifle and BR feel wonderful to shoot again and equipment works surprisingly well in the campaign setting and AI (more interesting than a Brute Armour Locking).

Noob question: I'm aware this is probably dumb to ask but what are the fallen circular structures embedded in the ground when you first emerge from the caves on Tsavo Highway? They look like mini Halo's lol.

Those are pieces from the Orbital Elevator which had been collapsed through the slipstream slip by Regret in Halo 2/ODST.
