Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Did anyone else cringe every time he said "sir" to a woman. Maybe it is just my memories of basic. Many a trainee got torn apart for referring to a woman as sir.

EDIT: Hehehe... top page for 50 ppp master race:

Maybe the Mantis starts out needing a tank-jack but when it gets damaged enough that the driver's exposed, you can just hijack it like a normal vehicle?

Machinima are having the exclusive rights for FUD on Youtube I think.
Thanks. I'm sure there will be many ads for it on xbox, now that I think about it.

more like

  1. Board Mantis
  2. BASHBASHBASH, expose driver
  3. kill driver
  4. driver falls out
  5. hop in and take control

all while hoping that no one else notices.

I doubt it. I would bet it's just a misrepresentation of a quote. Or an earlier build, etc. etc. It seems as if the Mantis behaves exactly like a tank. You can board and either melee or grenade. If you melee until the driver is dead you can then steal the Mantis, but you can't just jump on and throw them out like you do on a Ghost or Banshee.

You forgot step 6: take any damage at all, and step 7: die in a fiery explosion.

Edit: anyone got a link to a complete breakdown of loadout options & how they work?

Question, how does a spartan release a plasma grenade when throwing? Isn't it supposed to be sticky?

(This must be a very dumb question :( )

Or I am simply misremembering the animation/action. Lybertyboy will be along in a second to clarify.

I always imagine they push the button to prime, and as they throw (release the button) it activates.

Kind of like releasing the spoon of real grenades to make them active.

At one point you could jank and yank someone out of the Mantis. That ability was excised as part of our ongoing sandbox balancing. However, and I believe someone else mentioned this before, this has lead to a really fun cat and mouse meta game of trying to out think the person in the Mantis.

Do you just drop a grenade and call it a day? Or do you punch a couple times but through in a big enough pause for the Mantis pilot to get out so you can steal his vehicle? These are the questions that keep me up at night.

Does "jacking" a mantis prevent the stomp?

Does stomping kill someone who's already "mounted" for the "jack" (dirty).

I still need to pre-order.
Why can we just get a hint as to whether or not there will be a system that ranks people of similar skill together.

That's all I need. :(

So there's a possibility after making hundreds of posts in this thread, that you still wouldn't buy the game?

SO going back and watching the Adrift walkthrough Kynan states that the initial ordnance drops are different based on the game mode. This is definitely interesting... hmmm. I wonder if the same capabilities will be given to us forgers.

If you're mounted, then you stomp in futility.

IIRC, the wraith in Reach can (at some expense to its own health) blast off a guy clinging to the front of the tank. Can the Mantis be boarded from the front, and if so is he in a position such that he'd be vulnerable to either side gun?

Ok, good, was kind of worried about that.

Another question, does the stomp have a "rebounding" area effect?

Like when you shoot a rocket into a wall/ground and reflects damage.

I ask this because if you stomp near a vehicle/wall while someone is mounted this reflected damage might kill them.

I appreciate the answers.

You can only mount the Mantis from the rear. It's classy like that.

I'm not good at dealing with change, not good at all.

You're a teenager, you're about to go through a whole lot of changes.

Funny you should mention this. I was testing just such an occurrence while participating in an epic gametype that shan't be named. Basically I was taunting a Mantis driver by mounting them and then not doing anything. He proceeded to walk right up to a wall and fire rockets repeatedly at point blank range. His own vehicle shielded me from the damaged. I was greatly amused. He was not. fin.

At least it doesn't just happen to me. :-|

dis guy gets it.

So no rodeo custom gametypes? boo

Oooooh, Dirty Sanchez gametype, woohoo!

In Ep. 1 @18:49 & 19:10 Technical glitches in the academies system with triangular

patterns. Great Introduction! Can't wait for next Friday's episode. Same time perhaps?

Good to hear, and I'm surprised this got tested (although not exactly what I was meaning, it should still "count.")

Thanks oh greatly bearded one.

Edit: Wait, does this mean when you mount you're invulnerable from the enemy teammates trying to stop you?

Fuck, you moved on.

Ellis, that "shield" comment you made just now.

Does that prevent enemy team fire from getting you off the mantis then?

Please say no, and if you say no, how is that even possible!!!!?!?!

EDIT: Of course enemies can shoot a mounted player off the Mantis.

How then does the shield protect you (being mounted) from the rockets?!?

Seems a bit confusing.

Welp, looks like my plan of action in Ragnarok BTB is:

Use jetpack, pulse trigger to fly all the way to enemy base by going off the mancannon. Wait for a recharge and fly on top of the enemy mantis, crouch for added stealth. Wait for enemy to drive, bum-board them, and watch as the enemy team scores a few betrayals trying to blow me up.

Forerunner crystal. UNSC had to use it sometime.

Are we sharing funny Mantis story? I have one but it does only have something to do by sacrificing my Mantis. Not really about the awesomeness of the Mantis and not even funny.

Not confusing at all. You are mounted on the back of the Mantis. The Mantis fires rockets forward. The chassis itself shields you from rocket AOE damage.

It sounds like there's a cooldown when you release the jetpack button.

Ha ha ha ha ha. Good luck with that. I look forward to doming you at the beginning of every match.

Lasky is like the guy on your team who uses the AR and goes like -14.

Im pretty sure we all know a 'Lasky' in real life and you have to put up with him sucking and bringing you down just because hes someone you know.

I feel for the rest of those kids - cant wait till the Chief turns up and carries them each to a 50.

I actually like and emphasize the most with Lasky out of all of them, screw following bad orders and screw being put through that training.

I liked that they didn't make him out to be a total ignorant ass, but you can also understand why he's being stupid himself. When someones orders are stupid it's only natural to buck the chain. I do wonder what
Parangosky found particularly interesting about him though. Inspiring your troops is good, but wouldn't she want someone who could be controlled?

I'm fairly certain that one of the major storylines here going forward is going to be Lasky's maturation and acceptance of discipline. It doesn't matter whether or not you think someone's orders are stupid, you have to follow them. To do anything otherwise leads to total breakdown of discipline and a failure of the military; it's why failure to follow orders and insubordination have historically been capital crimes in the military. You have to throw out all your civilian assumptions when dealing with the military.

I can't believe people are letting this "epic gametype that shan't be named" comment fly by.
