Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Well my knowledge of hitscan doesn't go beyond what I just read on wikipedia but it seems like an older method of simulating a bullets behavior. I guess it's not that weird considering the win that is the H2 BR.

It's definitely less realistic. Battlefield fans would piss themselves if DICE suddenly got rid of ballistics tech in BF4. But it's perfect for Halo, I think.

Because Halo 2 Directors Cut Anniversary is coming out in 2014 with an extended campaign and all of the maps in a map pack for Halo 4.

I never got why Bungie was so adamant about no one actually seeing the roughed out storyboards + VO for that.

Edit: My point being, the original ending could exist, they've got the actor's lines from what I understand. They'd just have to craft all that extra. Would be great if we got Forerunner Tank too. </dreams>

Hey guys I just finished my helmet for Halo 4 last night.

Let me know what you guys think:

Nice! Definitely one of the better visors I've seen on fanmade stuff.

Sooo xbox prompted me to download an update

halfway through install xbox says it can't install... and now after turning the xbox off/on a few times it's just denying any connection to xbl. Anyone getting this issue? (fall dashboard beta installed, dunno if that has been released to public yet)

lol okay, unplugged the xbox for a couple of minutes, plugged it back in and booted up, finally reprompted for update.

Playing reach all night long. Have a goal of reaching Mythic before Halo 4 drops.

The beta dashboard is a pain in the ass with the constant updates and reboots, yeah.

I'm probably way LTTP on this but I just discovered that you can destroy scarabs with the hornet by shooting the red circle on it's back to expose it's weak point. And that the AI hornet will drop you off and pick you up from the scarab if you ride on it.

I don't think we will ever see it or hear it, wasn't it said with the original ending Halo 3 wouldn't be anything like it is right now?

Maybe I'm mixing up things.

How can anyone find the jetpack to be beneficial to gameplay OR map design in any respect?
Please, tell me.

And i'm not trying to say 'No, you're wrong and i just want you to tell me why you like it so i can prove you wrong', i'm genuinely confused at this point in time.

After playing a few games on Pinnacle and Reflection, I just don't understand why the armor ability is in the sandbox. I personally can't stand it, i can't stand playing against it, and i don't see how other people can find it fun, aside from the 'lol imma troll you' factor.

People using jetpack are easy targets. They can't go anywhere except up and down, and they do that quite slowly. They've never annoyed me and I've never seen anybody use one to get into an unfair position on a map. For me, they've never done anything except make an opposing player an easy kill.

Yeah, that's pretty much the only defense I've seen, too. From fans and devs alike.

It allows people to circumvent some key foot paths. Rather than walking the normal way, they can just go straight vertical. The classic example is the balcony on Relection. And they're only an easier target if you have some distance. Landing headshots while they're right about you is nigh impossible.

With the jetpack nerf in Halo 4, hovering will be less of an issue, but the whole destroying map flow thing still stands.

I started a Halo 2 run like 5 months ago when I got my new xbox, which I finally finished lol. I remember really disliking the game, but going back to it has shocked me. Its a hell of a lot better than I remember it being - it had some pretty amazing set pieces and I REALLY enjoyed it on return, donkey kong final boss battle aside. Im actually shocked that its a xbox 1 game considering the scale to some of its encounters. 1000 years war when you see all those Wraiths really surprised me. I also really enjoyed the multi way battles. Covenant on Covenant violence was especially awesome.

Every Halo campaign has had its distinct flavour, which is pretty impressive - cant wait to see what Halo 4 delivers.

EDIT: Good luck Gui, give me a shout if you need any advice.

Seems likely. I think a bunch of 343 folks, including David, are in SF now.

Pretty curious to see when the review embargo will go up. If it's earlier than the week of release or so, Microsoft would look pretty confident about the game.
Whoa, I haven't given a single thought to reviews. I'm going to avoid them, I think. I might take a peek at number scores.

Well I think when these reviews come out, it's like a marketing push. I don't think you necessarily look at when the reviews come out and gauge a publisher's confidence in a game.

This is not a knock to the 343 team, but I'm going to ignore pretty much all reviews.

There's no way this game ends up with anything less than low-mid 90's on Metacritic, unless it's RE6 levels of bad.

That's can certainly be the case, and is for the majority of titles out there, but when publishers know a game is bad or can't gauge whether the press will give them a good score, they'll embargo reviews until the day of release. That way the potential bad reviews can't scare off customers who are already sold on the game or impulse buyers. They can definitely be used as a barometer of faith by the publisher.

Every once in a while you'll get an exclusive review that goes up early, and there's no way they don't factor in that exclusive reviews tend to have higher scores.

To be clear, I'm not saying that a 'normal' review embargo is indicative of anything but a great game. I only mention it because a review event a full month before the release date seems pretty early.
I wish you success, Gui. You can make it!

I think they are. It is Xbox 360's game this year. When did Reach's embargo end?
The weekend before the game's release, I believe (the internet tells me midnight PST on Sunday). That's pretty standard across the industry. I think Dishonored's embargoes, at least for gameplay footage, end at 12:01 AM EST on Monday (that's when GiantBomb is running their footage, at least, which isn't a normal time for them) and Zenimax seems to think that's gonna do really well.

Halo's review events typically lock reviewers in a room with the game for a few days and have developers on hand to answer questions. I remember Edge and a few other outlets describing the review process for the past few Halo games - sounds like they're keeping the review format for Halo 4.

Right. Those super and super late one's are the exception. We normally see reviews the week before a game ships. I would guess Halo 4 embargo will follow suit.

... so? That's part of the game. I know damn well when I'm playing Reflection that people with the jetpack can get up to the balcony from the level below. It's a known ability that I can account for. If an opponent gets the jump on me on the balcony because of the jetpack, then I'm blaming myself for not paying attention. The same goes for every map. I know the jetpack's capabilities, so I know where players can use it to create a new path from one spot to another. If I'm in one of those spots, I'm keeping my guard up for some one with jetpack. For me, it's no different from being wary of some one with a shotgun when in tight quarters.

Not once in a thousand games of Halo Reach can I remember having a jetpacking enemy directly above me. It just doesn't happen enough to worry about.

If I remember correctly, the embargo lifted at noon the Sunday before release. I don't remember the time zone. And I might be getting it confused with Halo 3 :p

Will take a look at the scores list out of curiosity and then eventually read (only) the EDGE review, as usual.

How early did they do this lock-in, though? The game is gold, but it still seems really odd to have them sit on reviews that long.
