Critics: Disney's first latina princess 'not latina enough'

There has been nothing in the previews or media leading up to this to even consider her being Latina. This is a complete surprise to me.

Thought this meant there was another animated movie coming to theaters, got excited for a second.

I remember the backlash over Princess and the Frog and I never really got what the big deal was once I saw the movie, but this is a little weird.

By the way, why is it taking Disney so fucking long to introduce the half-Filipino, half-Inuit Disney princess we've all been waiting for?

Could they name her with an actual latin name please?

I'm fucking sick of Hollywood and their "Leuis Hourtega" bullshit. I suppose it's too much of a hassle to find a proper latino name?

Was that because "she wasn't black enough"? If so, that reminds me of Vanessa Williams being harassed for that same reason.

Not all latinos/latinas have brown skin and brown eyes, there are plenty of light-skinned blue/green eyed latinos/latinas.

It's actually weird that Disney could mess this up. They've been churning out factory-made Latina pop stars on Disney Channel for years now.

Okay... They'd have been better served by not saying she's Latina when there is nothing that seems to suggest she is.

I don't really understand why they keep trying to patronize demographics, there's no way to make everybody happy.

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Paul Mooney: First, they have "The Mexican" with Brad Pitt, now they have "The Last Samurai" with Tom Cruise. Well, I've written a film, maybe they'll produce my film. The Last Nigga on Earth, starring Tom Hanks. How about that?

American phobias and traumas regarding race and media are the most bizarre thing ever for an outsider.

Non sterotypical latin: Not latin enough! The media white-fies everything! Racism!
Sterotypical latin: Far too much latin! The media always stereotypes minorities! Racism!

Gee, keep making arian princesses Disney, so noone will complain about their potrayal.

Charlize Theron is a beautiful African

And she'd make an even more beautiful Tiana in the live action remake of Princess and the Frog. This time Disney will deliver the African-American princess the people have been begging for.

She's Latina? Really?! That's what Disney thinks Latinos see in themselves*/want to be seen as**/actually look like***?

Wow. That's Mitt Romney levels of out of touch there.

*for PR purposes (deflecting accusations of racism)
**for financial purposes (to get more Latino folks to see the film)
***...maybe they're all colourblind? :p

EDIT: And it's fully CG, oh my GOD. Quick, someone rip the models to Source Filmmaker!

Eh, my brother's girlfriend has red/brown hair and green eyes and she's Mexican. Latinos don't see themselves as any specific skin tone or hair color.

... Latina?...uhm Disney dug themselves this hole so if they want to sit in it then fine.

Are there Latino princesses though? I honestly don't know of any royalty that formed in the Americas, would seem rather counter intuitive to their independence, no?

Anyway, yeah. Huh?
Disney should have just created a Latino character and done a story with them. Making latina's princesses too seems counter intuitive to say the least, young girls can be other things than princesses, and - much much more interesting things.

As a Spaniard I'm mostly amused by how the whole pigmentation thing is obfuscating the fact that Latinamericans will probably eat broken glass before dealing with the royals again.

Eh.
