Same just happened to someone in the OT. They must've turned the switch back on.

Yup, banned from the game like him. I thought we were good to go. Xo

[edit] Just saw the above post. Cool. I guess I'll get back to playing Campaign. The random ban happened while I was at the end of the e3 demo level and now I can only go back and start from the last Rally Point, which is of course before some hard parts (Legendary). :'(

Now I feel bad... I just saw the biggest 7 year old halo fan walk by excited as shit because he got the game somewhere

Oh man he's gonna be soured when he gets knocked off live lol

uhmm what?

This just happened to my friend.

He is playing on a unmodded console so don't bother asking that.

He has a retail copy of the game, and just started playing today. What's the deal, I was under the impression that we were free to go online?

Edit: Shit i am lame and missed Frankies post.

Thanks for the response, looking forward to getting him back online.

So why did Arena fail in Reach, and why would Halo 4's ranking system work? From what I see, it doesn't fix anything Arena did wrong and only makes it worse by hiding the main point of ranking (the actual ranks) outside of the game.

If people don't see what they get from playing ranked playlists, I don't see how Halo 4's ranking will be any better than Arena.

My proposed way to ad a decent ranking system to Halo 4 would be:
-Always show someones skill rank and tie unlocking stuff (no gameplay relates things, just armor and skins) to leveling up
-Have 3 or 4 ranked playlists: (Infinity) Slayer, Doubles, Objective (Flag, King of the Hill and Oddball) and maybe MLG/Slayer pro
-Add better ways to detect boosters and derankers and punish them really harsh. If sexism can get you perma banned, so should boosting, cheating.

This way, you concentrate the people who want to play ranked in certain playlists, add an incentive to rank up and possibly make it harder for cheaters/boosters/derankers to ruin to fun for everyone else.

I do want to know why specifically the current approach is chosen by 343. Can't the detection of cheaters etc. not be made tighter? Or would there be too many duplicate playlists?

Your second point i gather will have less impact as you progress in your ranks, by the time you are 40+ you should only be matched against people who care about the W.

Im guessing some playlist wont have join in progress, the community will only care about ranks in these playlists, you could say this will be untainted ranks.

your points are valid, but I also understand the situation about booster and cheaters, and ways to fight them, from my experience is really hard to come up with an automated software that can deal with this problem.

But if I want to play socially in that playlist, there is a chance I still would have to play really competitively to not lose my rank even though I wouldn't really feel like doing so.

IMO, I think the main problem with Arena was that your rank got restarted every new season add to that that your rank was based on individual performance.

That's why the rank is displayed outside of the game. Rank every playlist. No point in having two of each, in my opinion. As long as I get matched with people of similar skill - I don't care. The ranks are there if you want them.

Seeing Pros play FFA Fiesta is bizarre. So hectic.
It's the kind of thing I really only see at customs (rarely) and at lan parties, because the casuals LOVE it.

Not necessary against it happening as a once off in the tourney, for a silly distraction.
