Taking $750K to create editorial content for the site is an ethical move. The editorial content that Microsoft financed was supposed to help launch Polygon. You would think Vox Media's deep pockets would shield Polygon from those types of conflicts of interest, but it appears money and narcisistic value in creating a documentary about themselves was too much to pass up.

When you own have ownership shares in the company I guess business is just business.

they do have a remarkable lack of humility and contrition. how hard is for him just to repeat 'we had some complaints about an article and took it down because it wasn't good enough' instead of belittling complaints. or would that require actually meaning thinking the article was bad and deserved to go down instead of just saying whatever they could to get rid of any heat. pretty sad either way and bodes poorly for their standards going forwards if they have this 'lol readers are idiots we always know best attitude' instead of accepting that they are going to make mistakes and constantly trying to improve.

I ended up munching down a bag of Doritos the other day, and stopped to wonder why, since I haven't done that in ages.

Then I saw the GAF thread and remembered. SMH.

That was a moment for me. Minor epiphany really.

Anybody who wants to hear Polygon staff be douches about this whole thing should listen to the opening of this week's Besties where they bitch about people's complaints.

So on the site they agree the news story doesn't meet their standards and then on the podcast they bitch about those people who complain. Classy.

The best thing about Polygon is that they think everyone should know who they are, as if they are famous like Kojima or Carmack. Nobody cares.

They won't. If Totilo and Schreier's responses in that other thread are any indication of game media at large, the Polygon staff will continue being clueless and without actual answers on GAF, but full of pithy retorts everywhere else. Typical media hack doubletalk.

Bit disappointing to see that Chris Grant didn't actually change his mind and dismisses the criticism with something that no one was actually saying. Guess the more cynical posters were right, it was just a bit of damage control. So what was all that bullshit about it not living up to their high standards? Sarcasm?
