Wii U Press Previews

The gamestop I pre-ordered at still doesn't know if they're doing a midnight launch or not. The guy there said it's up to the Manager and since he didn't need to have payroll done yet he still hadn't made a decision. This was at like 12 this morning and he said I was the 5th person to ask about it since he opened. Hopefully they do it.

Rosti has already said he will post it in the next day or so, in order to limit the number of "My Body Is Ready" posts before actual launch :)

It's pointless waiting. You'll get the same number of 'my body is ready' posts, just in a shorter period of time. If it starts off noisy it's easy enough to skip a few pages until things calm down. Just get it up and start building the anticipation.

don't know if this should be counted as a press preview but these guys put together a list of all the wii u launch games against other consoles:

Will QA for food.
I know this has been said a million times already, but where is that Wii U OT! :(

You're looking at it!
Until the real one goes up. :/

In the thread reserve thread earlier today:
Rösti;44247199 said:
Just an update on the Wii U Release Day OT: Having spoken with EatChildren, it's been concluded that a single thread detailing all regional releases (NA, Europe, Japan) will be the best option. I'll be posting the thread soon, and each region will have a separate post.

Any word on how many units are being sent out? I'm curious to see if it would be worth my time to line up a store early Sunday morning.

My card was also charged today. How does Gamestop typically handle a new console launch in terms of shipping? I chose standard shipping btw.

Pikmin 3 was all I needed.

Why the fuck wouldn't they put it out at launch? They're sending it out to die =(

They're sending it out to get the recognition it deserves to not be overshadowed by Mario, and hopefully make it better than what was shown at E3

Yup. Don't get me wrong, I want it at launch too but itll do much better if it has a month or so to itself to be *the* Wii U game.

They want a big first party game for the beginning of next year and they knew that they weren't going to have enough stock to meet the demand either way.

In Canada, people with Day 1 preorders are being informed they won't receive their system at launch. Albeit, they are lower rung stores (The Source, Shoppers Drug Mart).

I was the first to preorder at Toys R Us. I'll be pissed if I don't get one at launch.
Canadian EB games guarantees I get my Wii U preorder day 1 and they also make ppl with preorders lineup separately from walk in ppl.

Satoru Iwata has your answer:

“If you look at how pre-orders are doing at the moment, it is not an exaggeration to say that Wii U is sure to sell well in this holiday season, as many of you are probably thinking. But we realise the biggest challenge is to make sure that Wii U sells well even in the next year after the holiday season, and we are working on that too.”

“Nintendo tends to release too many titles at the launch of a hardware system and as a result suffers a drop in new games for quite some time after launch, and for the Wii U launch, we are being very careful not to let it happen.”

“Fortunately, third-party publishers overseas are launching many titles for us this time, and we were able to push back the release of some of the titles that we had originally intended to release as launch titles until next year.”

Exactly. They are spacing out their games do avoid a nasty game drought and keep momentum high. Pikmin getting its own month is not a bad thing. Now if they release it next march in the middle of alot of other stuff i will be sad.

I ask everyone that's getting their games tomorrow to please post pictures! People may find it dumb that you take pictures of a box and a disc, but to me it's pretty exciting.

I am so happy this isnt a weekday launch. I dont care if my gamestop doesnt have a midnight launch, waking up semi early on a sunday and getting to enjoy it all day without worrying about school or work in 8 hours is bliss.

Even though I have zero interest in this system, hard ware launches are always exciting. I can't wait to hear people talking about it on all the various podcasts.

any NY GAF member looking to buy a 8GB Wii U? I pre ordered one through gamestop after trading in a crap load of stuff. I'll sell it for face value, so 300 plus the tax.

I just want the cash back for the stuff I traded in for it so I can pay off the Deluxe one I got via Kmart.

PM me if you are interested.

Probably have better luck putting this in the Buy/Sell thread. I'm sure plenty of people will be looking for systems there soon.

You guys are thinking about this the wrong way.

Pikmin is not a big first party game. If anything, it's a small first party game. Why do you think Ubisoft packed the Wii launch (and now the Wii U launch) with games? People will pick up anything with Wii U on the case. After NSMB and Nintendo Land are sold out, they move on to whatever is left. This has proven successful for Ubisoft (and their launch shovelware) in the past.

Putting out Pikmin sometime in March, likely with little to no promotion whatsoever, is sending the game out to die. It would have been better off coming out at launch, and getting that spotlight cast onto it.

Small by which standards?

As I recall the first game pulled off like two million worldwide which would be declared a huge victory by any other of the big three.

All this Wii U talk is getting me hyped. I'm forcing myself to wait 6 months though in case any sudden price drops, pack-ins, or other deals start to rear their head. Give me strength, GAF.

I seem to recall Pikmin selling only about 1 million copies worldwide, and Pikmin 2 selling even less.
