Treyarch pull Nuketown 2025 pre-order bonus map in Black Ops 2(Up: Back, in playlist)

Still don't get it. WHY are they doing this? Whats in it for them? Whats the upside here?

Usually Activision's motives are pretty clear.

You 100% genuinely do not understand. That's okay though, because NeoGAF happens to be the #1 Video Game Industry Forum.

Veezy explained this to you in a post that you casually ignored (it's about 5 or 6 up from another one of your "blame the fans" nonsense):

You get a bonus map that is unplayable in public matchmaking. This was not explained when pre ordered, not explained on the Hardened Edition for consoles, the Digital Deluxe edition on Steam, nor is it explained on the upgrade to digital deluxe on Steam. As a matter of fact, buying the game after launch day gives the impression the only way to get the extra map, on Steam at least or in the case of most console disks pressed after launch date, is through the more expensive version of the game.

There has never been, quite literally, a situation in the whole of the COD franchise where you had a map that you couldn't find a way to play in public matchmaking.

Never. There is always a playlist of some sort for DLC. Be it just DLC maps, or DLC maps mixed in with regular maps, or DLC with only some types of game modes, there's a way to play that map.

They have removed the ability for individuals to use a part of their purchased product for the purpose the part of that product is intended to be used for in a way that has never been done in the history of the franchise. The map might as well, and this is not hyperbole, not even exist due to the way the custom game feature works.

It's not about the playlist, although that is blatant misrepresentation with the verbiage "24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we never close" and the playlist not even being open for a full and complete seven days for each person who could access that playlist. It's about the inability to use a mutliplayer map in the modes the map was originally intended, playlist be damn, to be used.

I'd encourage you (orznge) to try to speak to the points raised by Veezy, as these are why a lot of people are cheezed off. not some straw man/compendium of the worst opinions in this thread that are easy to attack.

intangibles, motherfucker
This is pretty shitty. If there is a little more backlash I'd bet they put it back up and say they were just tweeking settings or something to save face.

That's what I'm thinking. I'm doing my part and there is a lot of activity on twitter.

orznge is pissed too. He's probably trolling because he's pissed. Check out his posts from #300 - 400.

I like that I'm being told to explain myself, as if anyone who defends this has an opinion that is malleable enough to be influenced by anything other a pile of money.

like the problem is that I can literally post "Fuck you, you entitled pieces of shit. You paid for a product with no guarantee that that playlist would not be removed less than a week after launch." and people will take it seriously, because there are people on this forum that actually express that sentiment and mean it

Fact is, people like it the way it was. Keeping it that way bothers no one while removing it does. So, that's just kinda being douchey. It's as simple as that.

You know how I'd be on board with you though? If they gave us a reason. The absence of reason is not practical, so you're just promoting the impracticality of the situation. Kinda a low move.

Because in 3 months when sales are in a lull or XBLA traffic is dipping they can bust out "NUKETOWN 24/7 THIS WEEKEND!" to drum up hype and traffic.

Adam, he's agreeing with us. He's trolling because he's mad at Treyarch. He doesn't agree with the move. Anyone entering the thread late is missing the sarcasm.

I am uh vehemently against this if you didn't notice

Maybe theres a massive glitch in Nuketown and they just dont want to admit it? Any videos of any glitch in BO2 yet?

I'd be pretty shocked if you indirectly told me you paid $60 to play one map too. Yeah, it's shitty and all but come on. There are tons of other maps in the game and you're returning a game over a pre-order bonus.

Its not about the money..

Its about sending a message.

Heshinsi

"playing" dumb? unpossible
Here in Canada (futre shop), nuke town was bundled in every single copy of the game. Even if you didn't pre-order, you still got it. So weird that they'd pull it.

Fuck you, Treyarch. I'll play Halo 4 instead. And I won't be buying your ridiculously overpriced map packs, you pricks.

If I can return this tomorrow, I'll be picking up Halo 4. This move singlehandedly broke my unwavering fanboyish abusive love for the series. It'd be nice if the playlist came back but I'm no longer starstruck.

Guys! I figured it out! They're replacing Nuketown 2025 with Nuketown...2525! Surprise!

Anyways, who the hell at Treyarch/Activision thought this would go over well with people? This screams of them treating consumers like dogs. "Look over here! Nuketown 2025? Nuketown 2025 this weekend only! Whose a good boy! Whose a good boy?"

Halo 4 is pretty legit.

Plus without pre-ordering you get new co-op missions every week for free.

Yup. Honestly neither Halo 4 or BO2 completely blew me away, so I had been planning on probably flip-flopping between the two depending on who was on or what DLC was out or whatever. Now I'm selling BO2 tomorrow and getting the Season Pass for Halo 4. I usually have a free Gamefly slot, so at some point if BO2 gets the lag/network issues addressed and they fix the Nuketown fuckup I'll probably just Gamefly it for a while, but that's it. No day one or pre-order from me on the next CoD.

I don't know why specifically, but this has set me off in a way I don't think any other gaming-related bullshit ever has. It's slightly odd because I'm not even a huge fan of Nuketown. I think it's partially because there's just frankly no clear reasoning behind this; usually when a publisher does something fucked there's an obvious money grab or you can write it off as senior management incompetence, but this one is super baffling.

They will bring it back when they want to be considered "heroes" of the day or need a quick weekend boost.

It's actually funny as hell and smart. This level of bait and switch is one that publishers dream about but don't because of backlash.

No one thinks this is a good idea. Customer support 101. Nevermind forums, look on Activision's Facebook page. People are pretty pissed.

Your underestimating the CoD addiction. When they bring it back (most likely in a bullshit manor of DLC or weekend's only) people will be praising them again.

As the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Especially if this story has a 'happy ending' and Activision puts it back in.

Also, if this trends on twitter, that's just more free advertising for them at this point.

They probably took Nuketown off to draw attention away from their shitty netcode problems.

The netcode is absolutely horrible and thats starting to kick in with people I know as well. The ones who used to play religiously traded in MW3 and didn't buy the map packs and are absolutely furious with BO2 netcode and spawns being terrible all over again after empty promises. They shelved it.

My friends who play CoD casually are sick of it too. They don't even know what netcode is but they keep saying this one sucks because they know their shots should landing and they don't. Four of them, casuals, all quit tonight and are done until there's a patch, and won't buy map packs. Time will tell but if they don't get their shit together, hopefully all of this will snowball.

This isn't the kind of free publicity you want. When your product isn't working and you take stuff away, people get pissed. Pissing off gamers is one thing. Pissing off casuals is another. They can take it or leave it. Here's hoping.

Ah, I got mine from Newegg too, and it included Nuketown.

But of course now, no one really has Nuketown so it's not like you're out much.

Hmm... did you get the hardened edition or something?

I had mine preordered for a while, and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't included. Oh well. It'll probably be in the regular rotation for everyone eventually.

There is such a thing as bad publicity. Activision is, actually, quite familiar with it. The absolute abysmal quality of Tony Hawk's Ride destroying the franchise or Guitar Hero being milked, so hard, that DJ Hero, an actually solid game, felt some of the effects? In the non video game world, see the recent American election results and ask the GOP if bad publicity exists.

Remember, folks, Activison actually doesn't make a ton of money of a ton of franchises. They've got Blizzard and COD. That's their bankrolls. They make a ton of money off them, but WoW or CoD going belly up would destroy their company.

They can't resell the map to people that already own it and the backlash from a map pack having Nuketown in it would, probably, lead to some sort of class action (I'm positive having to buy something you already own to use it when you never agreed to ever losing the right to stop using it is probably frowned upon in some judge's court).

At any rate, this is one of the strangest incidents I've really ever been around. What other example can anybody think of, where a pub/developer sold a part of a game with a pr-order, advertised that as part of an exclusive edition of said game, and then pulled it for zero reason except "it's a special event"?

The only explanation I can give is they couldn't find a way to put Nuketown in a playlist without seriously fragmenting the player base. However, even then, it's still a shit reason 'cause that's not the player's fault and they still paid for the ability to use the map. Well, that and between now and Christmas I'm sure they'll be enough people getting the game that there won't be too huge of a gap.

As a gamer, on a personal level, I am extremely bummed my preorder bonus is gone! I have been so damn busy with earnings and then Sandy. I barely had a chance to play Black Ops 2 and only got a single game in on Nuketown.

@xIllusionzZ No map in the game has it's very own playlist my friend, unless we are doing a special event.

Oh yeah David? Can you read me the text here?

Just read about this. This sucks. Don't play COD games and I don't buy Activision games.

Please, next time, don't buy any shit from them to show you're against some of their practice otherwise this shit will become normal.

Couple of friends were going to trade their copies of BLOPS2 today in protest. I told them to demand full refunds instead under the condition of 'goods sold with falsely advertised features' which they got.

Unhappy? Don't bother with Twitter - express your displeasure with your wallets.

I wonder how much of that group will be able to connect to the fucking server. Ever since I downloaded that stupid ass patch I can't even play online. I have 1/3 of a game that works. Should've charged me 20 bucks instead of 60.

NUKETOWN IS BACK.

Confirmed on Twitter:

@Treyarch: Just launched a new fast-action playlist in the Bonus category called Chaos Moshpit. Back by popular demand: Nuketown 2025!

I see the Chaos Moshpit gametype. I don't see the Nuketown 2025 24/7 gametype. They probably added Nuketown to the regular mix of maps.
