Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed |OT| Everybody's Super Sonic Racing

Sega have been genuinely smart with game prices recently. VF5:FS basic for £10 or £20 for the version with all bells and whistles is another example that I felt was smart, particularly as there was no missing content from the core game at the lower price point.

I like it and I have no qualms paying day one prices everytime, as long as they keep producung quality games (which they have been doing recently).

I think it has a lot to do with the Valkyria Chronicles issue. When that game was new, it was 60 bucks and no one bought it. 6 months later, they did another pressing and dropped the price down to 40. It sold it. As did the next 3 pressing, and the game had a steady trail of sales for the next 12 months.

It doesn't work for every game, but for certain types, it just makes more sense to price it below the norm to garner attention of people who aren't hardcore gamers and push the hardcore into buying it as an impulse.

Now if only they would wise up and put Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 on PSN so I can play it on my PS3. I'll pay 40 sega, just do it. Fuck the PSP and the Vita.

was playing online last night, kept crashing into walls and raging. I don't know why I kept crashing into walls, hardly do it in offline mode. but besides that, Online is really fun. Playing online also levels up the characters too, which is great! I thought i was going to have to level them all up in World Tour mode.

Also appears PS3 version recently got a 214MB patch.. didn't download for me..but i got PS Plus.. so it might of downloaded automatically eaaarly in the morning

EDIT: S0L has commented on the patch

Actually... If anyone has the PS3 disk version in the US, we're trying to confirm the update is out over in US land. Just making sure (as it is out over here in the EU!).

That update addresses some Trophies glitches and a few general tidy ups. Slight performance increase too :p

12 Stars to go XoX.
This update better tone down Expert a little. I was at full boost and I still couldn't get past a Knuckles who was going at normal speed.

Has anyone bought the digital version in the US yet? If so, does it include the Bonus Content?

Really considering going digital, but I need a confirmation on that first.

I'm getting my Wii U copy in the mail today. If anyone wants to add me as a friend my NNID is DredPirateStorm. I see some people are having issues with the day 0 patch breaking the boost missions. Is there any way to disable the patch so I don't bork the game?

Yeah, as soon as you start the game up it'll begin downloading the patch. Instead of letting it finish downloading, there's a big "START GAME" button. Hit that to bypass the patch.

I don't know what the patch is, though. It might be Metal Sonic and Outrun Bay. When you bypass the patch see if you have them. I'm not sure if they're on disc or not.

The PS3 and 360 use an unlock code, so they're probably on disc for the Wii U too.

Thinking about picking this up for the Wii U. Haven't been reading this thread much, is the Wii U version up to par with the other versions??????

All I remember is early demos of the Wii U build in the summer being kinda terrible with the frame rate and whatnot.

I meant I wonder if they show up as available without the patch on Wii U. Because I didn't have to enter an unlock code or anything. I just started the game up, let the automatic patch install, and they were there. But if you bypass the patch I wonder if they don't get unlocked.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

It runs fine. But there are other problems. There's a patch (which I'm pretty sure you can bypass but I didn't know I should) that breaks some missions in World Tour mode (the mode where you unlock most the characters) as well as breaks one of the Wii U exclusive multiplayer modes.

Also, I don't know if it's just me but online is a ghost town. I was able to see one other person in a lobby ONCE but 2 seconds before the race was to start, I got a connection error. All other times I've tried online nobody shows up in the lobby. I've read about some online issues in the other versions as well but I don't know how they compare.

Up to par with the other versions, frame rate has been fixed to a steady 30 fps. There is right now a glitch that comes from an update patch to the game on the Wii U which glitches two of the events in tour mode (making one impossible and the other dirt easy), but SUMO says they're working with SEGA to resolve it, and if you don't install the patch it doesn't occur.

Frame rate is fine in the final build. Graphics are identical to PS360. Has all features intact plus off-screen gamepad play. 10 player online play, sole missing feature is in-game voice chat. Unsure if Sumo will be able to update it to add voice chat.

Ah, well that IS a good question. Find out, for science!

That'll only work once - the patch continues to download while you are playing, and next time you run the game, you have it installed. As for what the patch installs, I always assumed that the day-1 patches all enabled online features since they didn't exist on the console until day 1.

That's good to know. Welp, if anyone decides to bypass the patch, better get to unlocking stuff! :p

EDIT: Or disconnect from the internet before starting the game, duh I'm dumb.

So this is a 30fps game on all consoles? :\ Locked 30 or minimum 30?

I guess that would explain the graphics being so pretty.

Seems to lock it at 30, with occasional dips on the PS3 at least. I think the 360 manages to stay a bit more stable.

I dont find the graphics to be pretty at all (Wii U and 360). They're much muddier than the previous game. Blurry even.

The PS3 and 360 use an unlock code, so they're probably on disc for the Wii U too.

Confirmed, I did nothing to add them to the Wii U retail version.

Quoted from S0L from the sega forum:

Just so we're clear...

You are learning the hard way. You all seem to believe that defining the character roster involves me and Rex pulling names out of a hat, throwing darts at a wall of post-its, or just going on some 'eeny meany miny mo' method based on a post on this thread.

It isn't as simple as that. First you create a shortlist. Then you check the licensing. Then you attempt a series of concepts, then you focus test, then you discuss it with marketing, then with territories, then you try some models. At every stage the list gets smaller and smaller.

But the very first step is the shortlist. You're doing that now. You've defined some rules and you're mostly sticking to them.

It's actually really rather refreshing to see!

But I do have to remind you of the reality. Some characters may not be realistic as they may incur significant licensing costs. Some may not be doable as they require the licensing of a real world actor, you can't use someone's face without permission. I don't know right now if either of these is an issue or not - I'm not going to look into it till I see the results on the 1st.
You are free to vote for any of the shortlisted people. You should respect each others opinions. Just as you don't like character y, is not a valid reason to tell someone else not to vote for character y.

We *will* be vetting the data at the end. If we believe there are duplicate votes, we'll delete the duplicates. This will only work if the people that need convincing believe in what's been presented. If you've cheated, all you have done is increase the risk your character will lose votes and not be included in whatever discussions occur. Don't blame us for wanting accurate data.

I do want to see 3 clear winners. If you all spread vote - what's the point. You can't vote for two political parties for a reason. Likewise, we're giving you an opportunity here, don't squander it, use it, behave maturely.

If a character can't be done for licensing, legal or other reasons, we will have runners up as alternatives. But I want 3 to present and this is done intentionally to teach you that anyone can create a list of 100 characters to include, but when it comes to actually having a hard limit - then the task is inmeasurably harder. Perhaps it will make you appreciate how difficult it is. That's why I did it :p

I will say a thank you in here for the crew who are organising this. I know how difficult it is, how little thanks they'll get for running and policing it - mostly as I went through all manner of emotions in the 'Experiment'. Bear this in mind when you want to back seat drive.

And... Back to hands off

Which I'm guessing probably means no Miku. (among other things)

Some updated votes:

Segata: 1854
Miku: 1603
Ryo: 779
vectorman: 699
Ristar: 607
Bayonetta: 563

P.s. more Bayonetta votes please.

I didn't realize Ryo wasn't in this game D:

Please Segata Sanshiro don't charge lots of money for your likeness or force Sega to put a different face on you D:

And Sega whatever you do, Segata Sanshiro must never smile. No matter how cartoony you make him.

No worries, he already is in the game as a cameo and they handled it very well. People do want him in as a racer, though.

People really love that Golden Axe stage online. It's like Maka Wuhu status, except that stage was glitched!

I just wish you could unlock characters online.

Though whatever agreement they reached to include him as a cameo might have prevented him from being playable so they didn't have to pay him too much? Maybe they could cut a licensing deal through DLC payment?

Wait Ryo is based off an actual actor?

Wait I have no idea if we're talking about Ryo or Segata.

EDIT2: Segata. Okay. Nevermind.

Also for such a small cameo I have a feeling they just didn't model the character model's face to really look like the actor. Sega owns the rights to the character I'm sure. They can just change the likeness to avoid licensing.

I think it patched overnight my ps3 said it dled a patch.
I downloaded one earlier so yes, it likely did.

I thought I just needed 155 for Ages, oops, it's 165 and i'm on 150.
I find rival races, sprints and ring challenges to be the better choices to S rank.
Also the awful tank missions, take them slow to the point of boredom.
Standard races feel like a gamble, boost challenges are like the devil himself.

I've never played Golden Axe so it means NOTHING to me.

:(
I dislike the game but love the track, the power of enjoyable design!

The Panzer level on the demo sold me on this game. Picked it up during my lunch break... looking forward to spending some time with it this evening.

171 stars here...

So what's behind the 200-stars lock? I already have Ages, but seems I'm still missing a character according to the character selection screen.
