Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed |OT| Everybody's Super Sonic Racing

Which version are you playing again? I'm on the Wii U. Wondering if it's just this version or across all platforms.
PS3 so it's seemingly widespread.
At least you can actually transform earlier to avoid the issue.

I'm still thinking that the Nights track is a pile of poop, I was using Aiai and it felt damn near impossible to catch up because of the racers with a higher top speed, I was hitting every ring but barely closing the gap, the brief water section was the only point when I could make some progress and the warp point and plane transformation areas occasionally seemed to fling me into the wall like i'd lost control.

I NOW FEEL VINDICATED!

Oh, another question!

What's up with the Hot Rod? I hate that power up. The speed boost it gives you is not worth how much it slows you down when it explodes (and that loss in speed has screwed me over when jumping rooftops in the JSR stage.

So I guess my question is... why does it suck so much? Makes me wish I could discard powerups if I don't want to use them.

When you say explodes you mean when you detonate it right? I never noticed any speed drops at that point aside from no longer having the small speed increase, unless you let it blow up in your face of course and surely you detonate it before that happens.

I didn't get to play that NiGHTS level, but the sand/grass in the Shinobi level making you super slow I thought was a little odd. Good level, though.

Okay...issue...I love the game but am I the only one who thinks these stages are too freaking long?! It's like everything is Rainbow Road length and while that's cool for the latter stages, it gets tiring when every stage is such a long and winding affair, shorten some of these bad boys!

It's exhausting sometimes, but I kinda like it myself actually haha.

Wait... what. I can detonate it? Well I'm an idiot.

Online collisions are annoying me, I get a boost start but the guy in front gets in the way, I actually go fecking backwards like I was pushed away with great force, reversing! so annoying that it happened again on lap 2 trying to overtake I again got put into reverse.

Fix this :/

The transformation points seem to have odd collision on the NiGHTS stage. Randomly when transforming into a boat I'd crash on what appeared to be nothing, or suddenly veer left or right. Transforming into a plane at the shrine is also a bit wonky, there really ought to be a ramp or something there.
The boat to plane transformation at the end always messes me up, instead of soaring into the air like you are supposed to I always grind along the ground since I was just a boat and even if I try holding the up flight direction before I head through the gate I still just crash into the ground.

It's all of the weapons people get at the beginning of stages.

Would like very much for these options to return in a patch.

Ah I'm slow, I did unlock AGES. :p

But yeah, the beginning of online races are a crapshoot with all these slots winnings going on. Weapon option would be appreciated.

Speaking of weird collision problems, there's a point on the NiGHTS stage where you transform from a boat to a plane. I've only raced the track once but every lap when I hit that point, my plane would veer way off to the right as soon as it transformed. Was pretty annoying.
I think it might be the angle you enter the door from... that happened with me earlier but I was able to make corrections in the next two laps and it didn't happen again. Bring it in real smooth-like.

I was really surprised to see that they kept the slots for online, it's kind of silly but it doesn't make that much of a difference anyway, well unless someone lucks out with such things like Iron Frame or whatever it's called.

No it was not a weapon, the online collisions are like two bouncy balls hitting each other.

All of the racers armed with weapons at the start will cause the game to lag, racers warp around and collide into each other. But this is at the start...I see your point about the collisions though, it is really annoying. I blame lag spikes.

Was in a boost race earlier and a dude had apparently hit "receive x weapon every lap," which seems nuts, as this made him the only person in the race who was armed. Admittedly it's only three weapons but wth. Degenerate slot-playing gamblers get all the breaks in life!

Thinking about picking this up on Wii U, is online dead outside a few people playing race mode? Hard to find a game?

Very easy to find race matches. Even if the first match only ends up with 3 people it usually fills up to 6-10 people by the start of the second match.

I hope they get the WiiU patch out soon to fix the boost challenges. Any more news on that?

I really should do an update here. It's fixed here at SUMO and we dropped this down with SEGA. They're making sure it's OK and doing a full playthrough to make sure it's all fully sorted and then the plan is to get the revised update live as soon as possible.

I've not got an ETA, but we really want this into everyones hands as soon as we can. As soon as I've got info on when it will be live I will share it. We're hoping we can get it out to you all this week ideally.

More when I get it.

Any chance you could say anything about Nintendo's patch process? Even vague hints?

I've only ever played the Mario kart series but am looking to get another Wii U game.

Is the online smoothe on the Wii U and, in general, how has this game been received? Is it worth a purchase? Is it any different than Mario Kart?

Just wait for awhile until they sorta it out with glitch. I had same glitch which is frustrating.

Thanks so much for the update. Lookinh forward to playing more when it goes live.

Yeah, the Hot Rod is one of the best items in the game. You get a great speed boost, and you can detonate it before it blows up on you to avoid losing speed, and take out other racers in a pretty large radius. Look at the dial on the back to determine when it's about to blow up. To maximise the speed boost you get from it, detonate it when it's in the red. Though you may want to detaonate it before then to take out other racers.

To elaborate more on this.

The previous game had these options

1. Toggle Items
2. Toggle Hazards
3. Toggle Catch-Up
4. Toggle AI

They were nice features to have, and it was pretty awesome to have it as it gave options like no other Kart Racer I've played before did.

Oh, and a Sound Test would be pretty neat too.

What are the boost challenge problems? I finally got to one last night and I couldn't even get to the first checkpoint/gate. Is that the issue?

I see. These are really fun games. I just wish they had the polish of a Mario Kart title.

You mean like having a glitch that broke online in Mario Kart 7 (the shortcut on Wuhu Island, and everybody picking that track as a result), and wasn't patched out for about half a year?

Even disregarding that, I'd take an ambitious game that's a bit rough around the edges over a polished cash-in any day of the week. I'm bored of Mario Kart. They desperately need another Double Dash; whether you liked or hated that game, at least it did something different.

S&ASRT may have a few hiccups, but considering it's juggling three very different vehicle/control mechanics, I'm more than willing to forgive it.

If you're playing the Wii U version, and you downloaded the update, then yes. The patch removes all the checkpoints, making the level impossible to beat. For now, fail the level 4 times on Easy, and it gives you a single star, and allows you to skip it. You can come back and get a better rating after it's fixed.

An option to turn items off would be appreciated, especially on S Class, where the items combined with the ridiculously aggressive and accurate AI make things almost seem luck based.

Somehow I doubt it can be done, don't know why, but all the same, this this this this this!

One glitchy course breaks the entire online mode of a game? Really?! I liked seeing it come up because most people would screw it up and a lot of times I still won. And we another DD? Just how much crazier can they get? Do we really need that?

It was ruined in the sense that everyone would only pick that track and it just got boring. Game is patched so it doesn't really matter at this point.

Just practice! Track and item knowledge are key. After a few days you'll be 1sting S calss easy.

Challenges are another matter tho.

It came up a lot sure but hardly everyone was picking it. There was just as many picking against it for obvious reasons.

Every map seems to have one flaw somewhere which usually gets in the way in fast races, addar's layer snake heads can catch you if you go way too fast and hit the roof of their mouths, on the samba stage I went under a ramp near the end because I was so quick and sank in the water on landing I got wedged and stopped, there is a small invisible wall at the bottom of the stairs on shinobi which will stop you dead if slid into fast, etc.

They are not really game breaking but get in the way online especially when everyone fights over trueskill rank points.

Thanks. That would explain it. Seems like a weird thing to remove in a patch.

Burning Rangers track has a part where you're in the boat and you hit an invisible wall and stop or something like that. I think it's on lap 2.

1) Instead of "No Items", there's Boost Mode, but I can only seem to find a way of playing it in private online lobbies. There should be a way of enabling it for local play.

2) There aren't really that many hazards in this game that aren't a big part of the stages (for example, the pirate ships in Rogue's Landing, or the comets in Galactic Parade). There are a few small ones, such as the zombies in Graveyard Gig, and the steamrollers in Graffitti City, but they're so few and far between, I don't mind either way.

3) I don't think catch-up is really necessary in this game, as it's a lot better balanced than the last one. It's rare somebody builds up such a large lead that there's no hope of catching up.

4) Yeah, this is definitely needed. Why this isn't present is baffling.

As for toggling the number of laps, at first I thought that might not work due to the dynamic changes in some of the tracks, but actually, all they'd have to do is allow you to choose between 3, 6, or 9 laps. Say you choose 6 laps, the stage would be the same in lap 2 as it is in lap 1. And the same in lap 4 as it is in lap 3. And so on. So the changes would occur every other lap. Likewise for a 9-lap race; the changes would occur every 3 laps.

I also think there should be the following customisation options:

- Toggle the time limit in Capture the Chao. I played this for the first time today with three other people, and loved it. But the time limit is far too short. And that was just with 4 of us; if you got a 10-player game going, the time limit and constant fighting between them would mean that hardly anybody would actually score.

- Seperate matchmaking lobbies for Race, Boost Race, and Battle Race. I haven't actually played Matchmaking yet, but it's a shame that all of the race modes are mixed together (likewise for Battle/Capture the Chao).

Exactly. That track was chosen at least 1 out of 4 races, and the online was dull as hell as a result. It might be an isolated incident, and it's since been fixed, but it's still a good example of Mario Kart not being perfect in terms of polish.

And I mean we need another Double Dash in terms of innovation. I don't mean we literally need another MK with two characters per kart (that would ironically be the exact opposite).

Yeah, after some practice, Expert races aren't that bad. It's just about knowing where you can and can't drift. It's the Expert challenges that are the bastards.

I remember S0L saying you could only ever have three laps in a race because of the way the track changes dynamically. It's the same reason why a player who's lagging behind will get jumped forward.

Fingers crossed on that soundtrack release.

Then things were different for me because there would be times when I would get Maku Wuhu a bunch and then I wouldn't see it for awhile. I just know there seemed to be a handful of stages you would see online and good luck seeing anything else.

It's luck of the draw. Obviously, we're going to see different things in different lobbies, but every time I gave the game a go, I quit pretty quickly, as nearly everybody would vote for that track repeatedly. There'd be at least two or three people who would vote for it every time. Even immediately after having just played it.

In any case, all that matters is that Mario Kart isn't immune to technical flaws. So I think S&ASRT, a game that is much more abitious, and juggles very different control mechanics in any given race, shouldn't be judged too harshly for a few hiccups here and there. They're definitely issues, yes, but they don't ruin the game. And if we're lucky, they might be patched out in time.

I just gave a possible solution to that in my post prior to yours.
