Was hoping for a Vita version.

Also why? They have Symphonica on iOS which is like the same thing but worse. Also it's laggy which is great for otoge.

Oh well keep release shitty otoge for iOS and don't work on any console games or anything etccCcCcC damn you Square Enix.

LOL

There is literally no reason this game wouldn't be ported to these platforms, but detecting mobile user agents isn't exactly a smoking gun.

On the one hand, I'd buy the shit out of Theatrhythm for iOS. Would be great on the iPad.

On the other, fuckin' IAP.
Technically you are facing the same thing with the 3DS version and the DLC. I know it is optional and all, but even I went through the DLC.

I had said much earlier in the Theatrhthym thread that many people who don't own a 3DS deserve to be given a chance to play such a great game, but if anyone buys this for their phone then god help them. It is a shame that it won't be on Vita.

No sure if want, almost all of Square Enix's mobile games are expensive.
I don't get why people were happy to pay $30 for Theatrhythm on 3DS, but it's somehow not worth that on iOS. Let's say it's 100% identical to the 3DS version with the same songs built in as part of the purchase price, what about it being on iOS makes it not worth what people paid for it on 3DS?

a long, multi-threaded reason about how plastic cases are worth $20 and Apple has a walled garden and we should pay based on file size and how the iPhone is killing gaming, et cetera et cetera.

It's retail so this price is justified, if it's a digital release, they don't have extra costs to suffer through selling each unit, at least not on android.

OK, so that knocks maybe $5 off the price, assuming it would have a really nice, super expensive box and instructions in the retail version. What's the rest of the excuse?

The issue isn't with the fact that there will be IAP, but that I'm sure the game it self will be like $5 have a handful of songs and then cost $40+ after all is said and done. This is SE we're talking about.

$40 is what I paid for my copy of Theathrythm, not counting DLC. So? Sounds like you're describing a better deal, because you don't have to buy songs you don't like, and if you hate the game you're only out $5.

I hope they take this chance to expand on the whole "anniversary" aspect of the game and add in some more content. The 3DS version didn't really keep my attention long.

If that'd be a 3DS sequel, I would grab it Day One. But, well, this is Square Enix, so an iOS port is the most possible option. Good for the people that don't own a 3DS, I guess.

Oh, and at the first glance I thought that this teaser site is a mini-game. Too bad they won't port Theatrhythm to PC, those controls should work equally well with a mouse.

I played about 25 hours of the 3DS game. If it's a decent price (and assuming it does actually come out on Android) I'd love to play it again on my Nexus 7.

Time to seriously jump into mobile gaming, wont be long time before we'll see remakes/ports of FFIV/FFV/FFVI/Dragon Quest/Star Ocean games.

As long as there was an ability to buy some sort of peripheral or even if it slipped out of the case somehow, ala Xperia Play, then I would have no qualms whatsoever with the concept of mobile gaming. Virtual control pads are a joke.

Yea, but I'm operating under the idea that iOS games should be cheaper than $40.

Mind you, I did buy Theatrhythm day one and I've bought a few random tracks they've released as DLC.

I'm hoping for DLC, but my bet is on iOS/Android port.
Which wouldn't be that bad either since I can't find this game for 3DS on shelves anywhere (I also didn't look that hard).

I'm going to guess DLC.

Picked this up for $15 during BF, havent gotten around to playing it yet though.

I doubt they would've a new teaser just for DLC. I think Nirolak's post didn't show a single DLC unveiled in such a way.

If it's iOS - day fucking one.

It's most certainly a mobile port I'll avoid at all costs. Stylus on the 3DS screen > fingers on the iPad screen for rhythm games.

else if (navigator.userAgent.indexOf('iPod')!=-1){ location.href="sp/index.html"; }

LOL

Uhh... This means absolutely nothing.

Unless you mean NeoGAF is coming to the AppStore too.

I hope iOS. More people need to play this game. I'm not even the worlds biggest fan of Final Fantasy but this game is a serious contender in my GOTY list at present. I haven't played another game more all year, that's for sure.

A game like theaterhythm would translate fine to IOS/Android touchscreens, though. Perhaps, be the definitive version.

I'm not against smartphones gaining traction over the vita/3ds at all. I'm against already shoddy IOS/Android efforts plagued by control methods unsuited to the platform, like you say. Design your games around what's available, devs, not what you wish was available!

It's just perceived value on the platform, surely? You can pick up a massive game like GTA3/Vice City or even an all-original game like EA's relatively competent Dead Space/Mass Effect releases for $5.

The devs said they wanted to make DQ/SaGa Theatrhythm, so hopefully it's either of those. (Preferably SaGa.)

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
This won't be Theatrhythm: Nier, and so I will be disappointed.

How many games in the franchise?

Off the top of my head:

Three Game Boy games (SaGa 1/2/3)
Three SFC games (Romancing SaGa 1/2/3)
Two PSX games (SaGa Frontier 1/2)
One PS2 game (Unlimited Saga)

...and then there's the remakes:

Two for Bandai Wonderswan (SaGa/Romancing SaGa)
One for PS2 (Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song)
Two for DS (SaGa 2/3)

There's also a cellphone-only game called Emperor SaGa that's either out or due very soon.

Dang.

There's already a ton of songs available for purchase in the 3DS store, I wonder if they will have all of the songs in the 3DS version available in the main game or will they shave some to sell as IAP?

Anyways, it's a great game, but it will be tricky to play without a stylus. Smudges... everywhere...

Looks like the game is coded in Flash

Alternate version will run on Java Script

3DS game was great.

99% chance this is a mobile version of the first game.

Seriously, I feel kind of bad, for not playing this game right now. But I dont want to spoil the music by playing this before playing the games. Any way to only play FF1,2,3,4 without playing the rest? I only have to play though 5 to 13.... Should only take 3-4 years...

Isn't it too soon to port it to iOS? The game isn't even a year old. At least FFI-IV and TWEWY were more than 2-3 years old.

Final Fantasy is 25 next week. With the short lead-in time needed for iOS releases (ie, you can announce and release the same day) you can probably guess what's going to happen.

Geeze, SE is all over these iOS ports. I'm surprised Dream Drop isn't ported yet. Though I don't know of an android device that could run that?
