Square Enix opens new Theatrhythm Final Fantasy teaser site

Hope if they continue with the 'franchise' after this, we can get a general Square Enix version. Kingdom Hearts, Xenogears (they may not have the full rights, but maybe to the assets?), Star Ocean(published games too?), etc.

In fact I wish other developers would make similar titles too. Would love one for like Mega Man music, SMT music, and just about any other franchises with great music. But I guess it did not do crazy well.

I just thought of something.
What if it's a port for WiiU coming out on the eShop?
The huge screen of the tablet would really be beneficial for the game.

More Theatrhythm? Awesome!

I can't find Theatrhythm in ANY store here in Brazil, though. It would be SO GOOD if S-E made it available to purchase via eShop.

SO GOOD.

LOL

So, uh, I would still expect this to be an iOS port, but this code snippet doesn't suggest anything. It's code to make sure that mobile phone browsers get the HTML5 version of the site rather than the flash version of the site.

Flash:
http://www.jp.square-enix.com/theatrhythm/

HTML5:
http://www.jp.square-enix.com/theatrhythm/sp/index.html

Why do they need to distinguish between ipod and iphone?

They have different user agents.

Ah, thanks.

Someone didn't play Dissidia. :p
Or FFX or FFX-2 or FFXII or Crisis Core or some other good FF releases. That's ok, none of the blind haters have touched a Square Enix game in 10 years, so of course they are experts in evaluating their quality.

Making it for Vita makes no sense, the platform is dead. Same with WiiU - the install base is too small. S-E is company sitting on Type-0 because of that, they will not TOFTT with Vita/WiiU.

I think I sunk about 30 hours into Theatrhythm on 3DS. If you want to unlock everything and go for those perfect scores on all difficulties, it is probably a 50+ hour game. I thought it was worth the full price cost of a 3DS title, and it would definitely be worth $15 on iOS. However, I still think they are mostly selling to the same group of Final Fantasy fans at that price. From personal experience, a lot of mobile gamers will bitch about a game being $3 let alone $10+

Yes, and please don't talk about it, it just shows how ridiculous SE is this gen.

It's not really Square Enix's fault that the PSP was the second or third most popular platform for software in Japan this past generation while most western systems quickly collected dust (or served as piracy machines) after 2009 or 2010. They have supported western releases on the machine longer than most.

Type-0 is localized?

Yes. I have the only english copy.

Go nuts.

No I don't.

The 3DS exists for a reason bro.

Considering how strongly Square-Enix supports iOS, I would not expect anything else. Please asking for a Vita/Wii U port or sequel are in for absolute disappointment.

Yeah, SE had some pretty good PSP games, that is true. But localizing Type-0, making it public (more or less) and then not releasing it is just stupid. Just throw it on the PSN for 30-40$.

Final Fantasy is 25 next week. With the short lead-in time needed for iOS releases (ie, you can announce and release the same day) you can probably guess what's going to happen.

FFIV is being released on Dec. 20th, I don't think they'd release anything else on iOS for a while because they'd want to have the focus on that.

Square Enix seems to be transitioning more and more into the mobile / handheld market. I don't like it. Then again, I've never truly liked Square Enix... only Squaresoft.

I'd buy Theatrhythm 2 if it's for 3DS. But it's gonna be an iOS port, so no more Theatrhythm for me.

Wait. If they port it to iOS, you'll never buy a Theatrhythm title again? Or do you mean that you expect them never to release a 3DS Theatrhythm title again?

I've already bought the 3DS game and ALL the DLC. I think if this is an iOS port, and it most likely will, I'll pass on it in hopes they release something worthwhile.

Well, you guys should expect a lot of mobile games especially after that Wada report about how hard is it for a mobile game not to be profitable for them.

I believe he was talking specifically about the social mobile games. It's hard for gambling which doesn't pay back to not be profitable.

I hope it does get a sequel or a different franchise or something, I love this game too much and need more! I personally could care less about a mobile version, but if it gets more people to buy it, all the better.

I really liked the demo of Theatrhythm on 3DS, but couldn't justify paying full retail for it (plus all the paid DLC), so if this is a cheaper port to some other platform, I'm interested.

I don't get why people were happy to pay $30 for Theatrhythm on 3DS, but it's somehow not worth that on iOS. Let's say it's 100% identical to the 3DS version with the same songs built in as part of the purchase price, what about it being on iOS makes it not worth what people paid for it on 3DS?

Having my fingers in the way of the inputs I need to see.

And fingerprints *shudders*

Could be neat if it was iPad only though. There's enough real-estate there.

Geeze, SE is all over these iOS ports. I'm surprised Dream Drop isn't ported yet. Though I don't know of an android device that could run that?

Any current high end android phone/tablet would devour Dream Drop. Hell, you could move back a phone gen to the note one/S2/RAZR and still devour Dream Drop.

Not to derail this thread too much, but is this a problem a lot of people have with Theatrhythm? I've bought it, but haven't started it yet - should I be putting a screen protector on my 3DS? I've played a lot of TWEWY and Rhythm Heaven in the past and havent had any issues with scratches, but I'd prefer not to ruin my touch screen...

Am I the only who thinks this game should be played with a stylus and two screens (one for the visuals and the other to make the moves)?

I think about playing some Theatrhythm fast songs not being able to see almost anything (the fingers would cover most of the screen) and it sucks.

Tap or slide anywhere on the screen, problem solved. Same as you do on 3DS, and you don't need a second screen for that.
